These Beautifully Scented Sprays Are the Only Way I Clean My Home Every Day
Supernatural’s all-natural essential oil cleaners will have your home smelling like a garden.
There’s no doubt spring cleaning can be cathartic – but most of its benefits are felt after the undertaking. Who actually enjoys the grueling hours spent scrubbing, decluttering and reorganizing? Chores are chores at the end of the day. And the satisfaction they provide lies not in the process of doing them, but in their completion.
Over the past few months, however, I’ve started to look forward to wiping the dinner table each night. I found any small excuse to spritz the kitchen counter, and the bathroom mirror. And it’s because I began cleaning with a new set of sprays – essential-oil based bottles from a company called Supernatural.
Created by “Earth Mama Meets Clean Freak” Suzy Batiz, Supernatural brings the aroma of essential oils to cleaning. Batiz worked with a chemist over two years to develop plant-based cleaning concentrates that include sets of essential oils, ones that, purportedly, are naturally antiseptic, antibacterial, deodorizing and more. Mostly, the oils just make the sprays smell good (essential oils are known for their aromatherapeutic properties, so this isn’t a huge surprise). And the concentrates are a more enjoyable way to handle easy cleans rather than reaching for harsh sprays every time.
The Supernatural starter set comes with four concentrate vials – one for Counters + Granite, Glass + Mirrors, Wood + Floors and Bath + Tile – and four frosted-glass spray bottles, each conveniently pre-labeled, that are so pretty you’ll want to put them on display. To get going, just pour the vials into their corresponding bottles and fill with water. Give the bottle a little shake, and in no time you’ll be cleaning with the scent of eucalyptus, basil, lavender, grapefruit, rosemary and more in the air.
While the Supernatural sprays aren’t a direct replacement for traditional sanitizers or disinfectants, they’re still worth incorporating into your cleaning regimen. They’re great for low-lift situations, like wiping down tables between meals or sprucing up a sink space. The all-natural formulas are free of ammonia, chlorine bleach and VOCs (volatile organic compounds), and gentle enough to use on kitchen and dining surfaces like sealed stone and most non-porous countertops, stainless steel and finished wood furniture and cupboards.
As far as efficacy goes, I noticed the fluid cleans just as well as other plant-based sprays, including the one for Glass + Mirrors. There’s not a streak in sight! But do they replace disinfectants when it comes to cleaning my phone or other high-touch surfaces? No, so don’t throw away your standard sprays just yet.
The Supernatural system is also more eco-friendly than typical single-use cleaners. The bottles are durable, designed for long-term reuse. And since refills only require restocking tiny vials of concentrate, you can lower your carbon footprint with lighter shipments.
With a set of sprays that smell just as good as the mist from my aroma diffuser, the chore of cleaning has become a rejuvenating ritual. I feel a sense of calm not just because my space is clean, but because, thanks to just a few quick spritzes, the space really does smell wonderful. It’s in this small, daily to-do, that I know I can always find a moment of joy. In these bottles, mundane, everyday cleaning can always smell like spring.
Editor’s Note: As with all household cleaning products, be sure to follow the manufacturer’s instructions. Never ingest or mix with bleach.
