Slow-Cooked Country Green Beans

Ingredients
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
1 cup chopped yellow onions
3/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1 (8-ounce) ham hock, scored
1 tablespoon minced garlic
1 1/2 pounds green beans, trimmed and halved
Note: The salt and pepper we used here were suitable for the ham hock we had. However, depending
upon the cure of your ham hock, you may require more or less salt. That said, hold off on adding the
salt until about halfway through the cooking process.
