il Buco

New York, New York

A one-time antique shop featuring traditional American crafts, il Buco flourished under the ownership of partners Donna Lennard and Alberto Avalle to become a cozy, antique-filled restaurant.

The menu features an extensive selection of Mediterranean tapas and eclectic, seasonal entrees. Some of the popular daily specials include Taglierini ai Carciofi ed Animelle, fresh, thinly cut pasta with organic sweetbreads and sautéed artichokes, Sgombro alla Piastra, seared Spanish mackerel with minced fennel and orange, and Lombatina di Vitello, grilled veal chop with pomegranate glaze, roasted potatoes and watercress salad.

In keeping with the original concept to promote the handicraft of small, boutique artisans, il Buco also features a variety of wine and other products from lesser known producers in Spain, Italy, France and the United States. Both rustic and romantic, il Buco is a perfect place to gather with friends, dine with a special date, or mingle with other guests at one of the three communal tables. Reservations are recommended.

If you can’t make it to il Buco, but would like to prepare your own Mediterranean-inspired meal, uncork a bottle of wine and try these similar recipes at home:
