One of the most dramatic-looking fruits or vegetables, the pomegranate is equally gorgeous when used whole as a centerpiece or split open to reveal its fuchsia seeds. It also has a unique tart flavor that seems on the border of savory and sweet. Add fresh pomegranate seeds to a salad for an elegant touch at a dinner party or use the juice to create wonderful cocktails. Be careful when seeding or juicing, though, as pomegranate juice does stain. Whole pomegranates should feel firm and heavy and can be stored in the fridge for up to three months.
