When it's time to party, there's no place like New Orleans. And what better time to visit than Mardi Gras, the party to end all parties? Escaping without a drink (or several) will be difficult once youve sampled some of N'awlins' finest concoctions. If you're in the know, you'll head to Bourbon Street's best bars for signature drinks that say "let the good times roll" like no other. Perhaps the most famous of these is the Hurricane, served at arguably New Orleans's most famous bar--Pat O'Brien's, opened in 1933. A potent mixture of amber rum, passion fruit juice, lemon juice and sugar, this is one of many specialty drinks that pack a serious punch. Another bar staking its claim on the "original" New Orleans Hurricane is the Famous Door, which opened in 1934. The Famous Door Hurricane consists of rum, vodka, tequila, everclear, grenadine, sweet and sour mix and other secret ingredients that its owner will not divulge. So, whether you're heading to New Orleans for Mardi Gras or want to experience a bit of Bourbon Street at home, whip up one of these fun cocktails and start celebrating.
