Pasta is one of the fastest, easiest food items to prepare. For a quick midweek meal, use a dried, packaged pasta and create a simple sauce with your favorite ingredients -- even leftovers! Be sure to add a small amount of the pasta cooking water for a natural sauce thickener (the starch that comes off the pasta during the cooking process is in that lovely liquid). Or, when time is not an issue, try making homemade pasta. It’s easy, fresh, and kneading that dough is a great way to work out some aggression.

Fun pasta facts:

  • Pasta means paste in Italian, and refers to the pasta dough

  • There are hundreds of shapes, sizes, and thicknesses of pastas

  • Archaeological documentation now points to the fact that noodles probably originated in central Asia, possibly dating back to at least 1000 BC

  • Almost every country has a type of pasta. Poles eat pierogies, Germans have spaetzle, and a wide range of noodles are found throughout Asia
