Great cake 10/27/2006 at 05:35am User: Gary Brentley from Holloywood, FL User Rating: Very easy to make and everyone loved it. The cake flour made it very soft. Have made it a few times and have enjoyed every one. chocolate heaven 10/22/2007 at 01:37pm User: Anonymous User Rating: This was a fantastic cake! I made this for my husband's birthday and it was a big hit. It was incredibly rich and not too sweet, which my husband liked. If you want a big dose of chocolate this is the cake for you. I doubled the custard recipe in order to have it in between the layers and around the outside of the cake. Chocolate coma! 10/20/2007 at 12:52pm User: DIANE from West Haven, CT User Rating: I heard about the NY blackout cake from my sister, so I tried this recipe and followed it to a "T". My 14 yr. old son said it was too chocolatey. I thought it was a little dry. I think if I make it again, I will reduce the oven temp to 350. I also think the cake was very chocolately, but I don't know if this is how it's supposed to be. I'm giving the rest of the cake to my sister and see if this is what she wanted. We are not big chocoholics in my house, but my sister is, so she might just be in heaven. BEST Cake Ever !!!!! 10/13/2004 at 09:22pm User: STACEY from bath, PA User Rating: I am not a professional but this cake comes out tasting and looking like you have been doing it for years. This cake is definately a chocolate lovers delight. Hard work that pays off every time 10/06/2004 at 08:59am User: SARI from East Norwich, NY User Rating: This cake is not for an inexperienced baker. It is very time consuming. However, the pay off is worth the results. I've made this so many times now and no matter who I make it for, I get nothing but raves. Chocoholic's Delight 10/02/2005 at 02:06pm User: Arlene from Radford, VA User Rating: This cake is a chocoholic's delight. The rich dark chocolate taste is supurb. It's also an easy recipe to make. It IS like Hawaiian Dobash Cake 09/28/2004 at 03:42am User: Anonymous User Rating: After threatening to make this recipe for a while, I finally tried it and was so happy I did. It's so smooth and creamy. The unsweetened cocoa powder makes it rich, without the sickening sweetness. It takes longer to make than the 45 minutes it says here but it's SO worth the work! Famously chocolate 09/21/2005 at 08:32pm User: Jessica from Mannhattan, NY User Rating: The best thing ever if you like alot of chocolate!!!!!!!!!! Cake seemed dry 08/02/2006 at 04:45pm User: Anonymous User Rating: Thought the custard was very good - (odd that it has no eggs or milk) but the cake seemed a little dry. I'd make again, but substitute a different cake recipe. Calling all chocolate lovers 07/15/2004 at 11:43am User: MONA from Dearborn Heights, MI User Rating: This is SO GOOD if you're craving a rich, dark chocolaty cake! Good 06/25/2004 at 11:58am User: Anonymous User Rating: Good!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! deliciously sinful 06/13/2005 at 06:03pm User: Anonymous User Rating: this is a cool creamy chocolate lovers dream. i cheated and used crushed toffee candy bars to coat mine, ooohh-la-la. this is one that you'll make more than once. Delicious custard, dry cake 05/17/2008 at 09:28pm User: nancy from urbana, IL User Rating: The concept and the CUSTARD are a chocolate lover's dream! The custard gets you a little extra chocolate kick without that heavy sweetness you get from frosting. Cake is crumbly and dry -- just use your favorite cake recipe, and you've got yourself chocolate heaven. Taste like Hawaii's Chocolate Dobash Cake! 05/16/2004 at 11:48pm User: LINDA from highland village, TX User Rating: This recipe is a good one! If you don't have time to make the cake from scratch, use any chocolate cake mix. I've done it both ways and they're both really good. I halfed the custard recipe and still had too much for the cake. Great 04/29/2007 at 07:17pm User: Anonymous User Rating: ================================== Using black cocoa 04/14/2008 at 10:11pm User: Jenny from Greenville, SC User Rating: I tried this substituting half the cocoa for black cocoa, to make a truly dark blackout cake. It was wonderful, but I'm personally not a fan of the crumbs on the outside (even if they are traditional) because they create the mouthfeel of dryness even when the cake is not. Don't hesitate! Make this cake!! 02/19/2006 at 07:14pm User: Anonymous User Rating: This cake was excellent!! Took it to a party with adults and children. Everyone loved it. Easy to make! Rich and chocolaty without the zing-on-the-teeth of excessive sugar. I received much praise! This is now my chocolate cake of choice. Unique and Delicious! 02/16/2005 at 12:39pm User: SHANNON from Brooklyn, NY User Rating: I make cakes very often but this was the biggest crowd-pleaser to date. The frosting has a unique taste and texture--it's rich without being too sweet. I loved the look of three layers too, although I could have done without the crumbs on top. good 02/14/2006 at 12:05pm User: Anonymous User Rating: it was pretty good. i made them into cupcakes but it got so big that it spilled over the edges. i didn't do the icing. it was light and fluffy. A bit dry... 02/13/2006 at 04:01pm User: Jill from north brunswick, NJ User Rating: my husband loves chocolate so he thought it was great. I thought the cake was to dry, I baked it for 32 min. |
