For the few complaints of it being too mushy, YOU must've done something wrong because it should be fairly firm. This was my first meatloaf and my friends loved it! I loved the hint of sweetness of the meatloaf. I will definitely try it again!

I used ground venison instead of the turkey and did not use the Old Bay Seasoning and bell pepper and it was really good. The BBQ sauce is WONDERFUL and I will definitely use that over and over again! Was concerned it would be too salty with the seasonings and soy sauce, but was perfect.

It was edible

The turkey was too sweet(thanks to the red bell pepper, red onion, and sugar in the dry rub) and the meatloaf overall was grainy.

Great alternative to same ol' meatloaf!

Great taste. Rather than making the BBQ sauce I substituted bottled BBQ sauce and it was still delicious! Nice BBQ taste.

I have made this meatloaf twice and my husband and sister loved it!!! It was the PERFECT consistency and tasted great! The BBQ sauce was phenomenal! I didn't think I could ever make BBQ sauce but now I make if for everything else! I make the sauce in bulk so that we can use it for other recipes! Thanks Pat and Gina!!! I love you guys!

WOW!!! Did you say Turkey???

Okay, so maybe I'm exagerating. You CAN tell that the meat consistancy is different from beef, BUT...the flavor is breath taking. I did season my meat in addition to following the directions, but I along w/ the rest of my company LOVED IT. I WILL be making this again. SOON.

pretty good!

Similar to other posters, I made the bbq sauce the day before so that cut down on the time element. This was my 1st time making any sort of meatloaf and I was happy w/the consistency and the taste. My husband was not really impressed which is why I gave it 4 stars,

Awesome

I like to try different meatloafs and this is the best so far. I made their spice and their bbq sauce. I used a little more than 2 lbs. of turkey and it still cooked in the time the recipe said. I don't usually like green peppers in meatloaf but these seemed sweeter maybe because they were sauteed first. The flavor of this meatloaf was awesome.

I loved it.

This was a great and health recipe. My family loved it. I was never a big fan of meatloaf as a child. It was always too dry. But this was great. The BBQ sauce really made the difference. I will fix this again along with the Mac and Cheese. Great Sunday dinner.

Husband loved it

We have been trying to eat healthier and thought this would be a great recipe. My husband loved it (went back for seconds and made an "mmmm" sound when eating it!). The only thing keeping me from 5 stars is I am not a bell pepper fan and they do add sweetness to the meatloaf. I did cut the recipe in half and used a 20oz package of Turkey. I still cooked it for the 55 minutes and it turned out perfect. I let it rest like the other reviewers recommended and it did not seem mushy or dry. The bbq sauce is worth the effort and I cannot wait to try it on chicken! I served the meatloaf with garlic mashed potatoes and green beans. Overall, a great meal! I am looking forward to a meatloaf sandwich tomorrow!

First, I couldn't stop eating the BBQ sauce. I never even thought to make my own sauce before. I will never buy sauce again! The meatloaf needs to rest after it's cooked, this way it can firm up a bit. But, once that happened, it was on in my house! Great recipe.

I made this recipe exactly the way the recipe stated. The sauce is so worth the time. It took mine about 1 1/2 hours of simmering. My meatloaf was very juicy, but I needed to cook it about 1 hour and 20 minutes for the meat thermometer to register the correct temperature. Also, I let my mealoaf to rest for 5 minutes before cutting, so I had no probably with it being mushy. Everyone loved it. Will definately make again!!

This is a tasty meatloaf but it is way too mushy. I cooked it for the 55 minutes, like the directions said. I took it out of the oven and was sure the recipe must have had a mistake in the time so I cooked it 30 minutes longer. Still too mushy. I don't know what I can do to make it firmer. It does have great tast, I just prefer something firmer. Love the show, though!

The BBQ sauce took time and a little effort but it was SO worth it. I knew the recipe was too big for just my boyfriend and I so we just split it in half which was perfect. I can see how some thought it was too sweet but we loved it. It's now a "do again" and would definitely serve it to friends and family. We let it set for 5 or 10 minutes to help the turkey become more firm. (Thanks to others reviews!) The only thing I would do next time is make the full recipe because I know we'll devour the left overs. :)

We enjoyed the turkey meatloaf very much. I agree with other reviewers, probably I would make the BBQ sauce the day before to save time. Also, I think the sauce was very sweet for the meatloaf. My regular meatloaf sauce recipe has about 1/2 the sugar (and only brown), also I thought the red peppers added to the sweetness. But, overall, my husband liked this dish very much! Even better the next day, as with most meatloaf. Thanks Gina and Pat!

I love the show Down Home with the Neely?s and I love turkey meatloaf so when I saw them prepare this, I knew I needed to try this recipe. I followed the recipe as closely as possible, and I was somewhat satisfied with the end result. My only complaint, and to no fault of the Neely?s recipe, is that I probably didn?t need 1 ? cups of bread crumbs. As a result, my meatloaf came out a little too mushy for my taste, but my friend loved it. The following night, I had some of the meatloaf and it was much better and more solid. Next time I make this, I will use less bread crumbs and make the Neely?s famous BBQ sauce.

My husband absolutely LOVED this meatloaf. He's not one to go back for seconds but he did and almost hurt himself. :) My only tidbits would be one, save a few hours to make this if you're going to make the bbq sauce from scratch. That takes an hour by itself. Two, just be aware that the texture is softer than other meatloaves because it is TURKEY not ground beef. But the flavor was GREAT and it's great the next day leftover too. GREAT RECIPE!!!!

This is such a good meatloaf for anyone watching their fat intake. My husband said that I should make this recipe every week. That is the first time I have heard that from him. Makes great leftover meatloaf sandwiches. I used the recipe for the BBQ Sauce, only change I would make would be to add less sugar.

I tried the turkey meatloaf today and it was very tasty! I love the barbecue sauce also! The only thing I didn't like was the texture and I think it probably was my fault. It turned out a little mushy. The recipe didn't state what kind of bread crumbs to use.I used fresh. I think if I had used dry crumbs, maybe it would have soaked up more of the moisture, and made a firmer meatloaf. Not sure, but will definitely try again, as we really liked the flavor!

Will try again

Like other viewers, after watching this episode, I had to make both the meatloaf and mac n cheese that night. I followed recipe exactly, and even made the Neely's BBQ sauce. I have always used ground meat, but wanted to try something healthier. The flavor was okay, texture was good, but something was missing. Maybe it's because we are used to the stronger flavor of meat. I want to try this again, to see if we are more impressed by it next time. It wasn't bad, but the Mac n Cheese sure outshined it.

Excellent recipe!

When I saw this on the show last weekend I knew I had to make it, along with the Mac & Cheese (see my review there as well). I was able to take a couple of shortcuts on the BBQ sauce and seasoning, because I already had plenty of each on hand that I pick up whenever I fly through Memphis Airport...the BBQ sauce and seasoning from Pat's uncle's restaurant, Jim Neely's Interstate BBQ. I had to alter the recipe to feed 8 - why does Ground Turkey always come in 20 oz packages instead of 16 oz?? Still it came out GREAT. After reading the other reviews here and then the liberties I took on the sauteed veggies, I was sweating the texture a bit, and while it did seem a "little" mushy when I first took it out and sliced it, once it sat a little while it solidified quite nicely. The flavor was outstanding inside and out. 8 of us finished all but one serving of it (which I will enjoy for lunch today!). I would definitely make this again. I'm also really enjoying the Neelys' show, now that they're finally "getting the hang of it". The first couple of shows Gina was "playing to the camera" a little bit too much for my taste, but I think now both she and Pat realize that the food is the star and their job is to add "just enough" personality to make it personal, instead of the other way around.

This recipe and the show have no sizzle and again, personality wins out with the network over true culinary skills. The constant "sugar" and if "he's a good boy" do not below on Food Network. Where are the likes of Julia Childs, Jacque Pepin and Lydia with true style and experience in the kitchen. Thank God for Giada and Ina!!! Won't prepare this again.

This meatloaf is wonderful!! I'm used to the tried and true ground beef and ketchup meatloaf and this recipe took it to another level. I would have never thought to use turkey, but I will be using it from now on. I had to make ajustments on the BBQ seasoning (didn't need all that left over) and I already had some of Jamie and Bobby Deen's BBQ sauce made up in the fridge so I just used that. I'm eating it now and had to stop to write this review! It's EXCELLENT!!
