I grew up enjoying Boiled Dinner regularly, but knew it could be even better. The specifics in this recipe really make it delicious. E. had done a terrific job of taking a traditional dish and helping us make it even better. I especially loved the horseradish cream. I didn't think I was a big fan of horseradish, but this was so good, I ended up putting it on everything!!

I liked the extra veggies, parsnips and turnips. The horseradish cream was good to, we just used hoseradish plain before.

A better alternative to plain old corned beef and cabbage

I saw Emeril make this on tv several years ago and have been making it ever since, even if it isn't St. Pat's day. As I have been doing my own creative cooking for many years I have even played with the recipe a bit. In the absence of turnips or parsnips I have substituted rutabaga. I have also added rutabaga even if I did have the other two ingredients. I typically will also add some celery. I've always added some garlic and usually some paprika and parsley. In the final analysis, this recipe is already great all by itself but don't be afraid to experiment.

Excellent and Simple
