Needed a quick recipe for the family, but tired of the same old thing. This was very simple to make and very tasty.

Sub-par Kung Pao Beef

I eat chinese food almost every day. I cook a lot of chinese food as well. I also live 5 minutes away from chinatown. This kung pao beef doesnt even come close to any of the versions in chinatown. This recipe contains a lot of liquid. I followed the recipe and it came out still very "soupy" I recommend adding more cornstarch than asked in this recipe. In terms of flavor, it is not bad. Although, its not great either. There are better recipes out there, also some worse ones, but this ranks in the middle somewhere. I found the heat in the dish a bit weak, so probably adding more dried peppers will make it hotter. I would have given this two stars but it quite doesnt deserve 2. It deserves more of a 2.5

Tasty!

This was a very tasty dish. Since my husband and I like our asian food spicy, I put in seven chilis, rather than four. It kicked the spice level a good notch.

Great Recipe!

We really enjoyed this recipe. We followed the recipe except we doubled the dry red pepper, added some vegetables, and used noodles instead of rice. It turned out wonderful and is a quick and easy dish.

Not sure how someone could say this was lacking in flavor unless there was a problem with their ingredients--there are a lot of flavors here. We like spicy food, and this was perfect--although it made a LOT of sauce. I might use a more tender cut of beef next time, or even try with chicken...but the flavors were great.

Great!

some of the Ingredients are a little exspensive but this recipe is quiet the crowd pleaser. Great flavor, makes white rice absolutely lovely.

After being fortunate enough to watch the episode of Food 911 which featured one of my all-time fave dishes, I was very anxious to attempt it myself. Being fans of Asian-style cuisine, we had most of the ingredients already on hand. I followed each step of the instructions, actually marinated for longer than the 1 hour minimum (3), and was blown away by the end results. I loved it! My wife was thoroughly impressed. My friends and coworkers whom I have allowed a "taste" all want the recipe. Its easy, simple to follow, and well worth the effort!

WOW for PAO

I made the mistake of using white wine vinegar instead of just wine. It would have been ok if I had used half the amount. I just had the leftovers for lunch, it tasted much better. I tried using noodles, but I think rice might be better (and I like noodles). I would make it again - and add more chili's as others have suggested! The prep is a bit long for this, but if you know that ahead of time...

This recipe looks like it will be tedious with all the ingredients, but it really is very easy. We used 5 red chilis instead of 4, but I think what made the difference was using Hot Chili Oil instead of the Szechwan peppers (which I couldn't find). I added in the Hot Chili Oil at the end before the corn starch was added. I used about 2Tbsp, but this was eyeballed and brought to taste. We definitely will be cooking this again.

I really enjoyed this dish. Following the advice of other reviewers I increased the number of chillies and it was spicy and delecious.

I agree with Ulysses

Didn't find this to be that great, I felt it was too soupy as well, with a lot of ingredients and a lot of prep, I wouldn't make it again. Disappointing.
