I have been making beer bread using a Tastefully Simple Mix. This recipe is close, but it isn't quite as good. I am hoping to find on as good as the boxed mix.

You don't need self-rising flour

User: ANDREA from Omaha, NE    User Rating:
If you don't have self-rising flour on hand, just substitute 3 cups all-purpose flour plus 1.5 teaspoons each of baking powder and salt. I used Leinie's Honey Weiss for the beer -- excellent choice!

simple & yummy

I used mich ultra amber for the beer & in about an hour, I was slicing up out-of-the oven bread. Moist & delicious - definitely worth a try!

I tried this recipe after spending way too much on packaged beer bread mixes. It is delicious and couldn't be easier. For a different twist, try adding one cup cinnamon chips and using cream soda instead of beer. Tastes great toasted in the morning!

I've made this bread so many times that I now have it memorized! It's great tasting and so easy. I looked up this recipe to replace a beer bread mix I bought from a kitchen party and it's exactly the same. Now people ask me for the recipe. LOVE IT!

This bread is quick and easy to make. I melted the butter and drizzled it over the top of the bread before placing it in the oven. My family loved it!

This bread is a family favorite. My son is married to a girl who doesn't cook so I measured out 4-5 ziplocs with the flour and sugar and a six pack of beer and directions . He called me and now he makes it all the time.Great toasted in the morning with orange marmalade.

More butter!

For a richer flavor, I pour 1/2 - 3/4 a cup of melted butter over the top 10 minutes before it's finished cooking! Just watch out for the smoke...

Very good

I have made this a few times, varying the amount of sugar each time and it never seems to taste 100% right to me. But, it still is pretty good bread.

In the age of bread machines it's nice to have a simple recipe like this that you can make by hand . The bread stays more moist if you wrap it in plastic or foil almost right after it comes out of the oven .

yummy

This bread is sooooooooooooooo wonderful...words cannot say enough! I recently went to a "food" party and tried that beer bread and yes, it was delicious, but way too expensive!!! I found this recipe on line and tried it and I'm so glad I did. It's actually better than the "mix" I ALMOST bought! It's delicious, simple and homemade...this is the recipe for me! Thanks for sharing and Happy Thanksgiving to you all!! :)

Loved it!!

This bread was great... I usually buy the recipe and supplies in a box from expensive names...This tasted exactly the same & was sooo easy!!! I was worried about which kind of beer to use, all I had was a corona light and still tasted excellent!

Sometimes you can get away with substitutions. But I didn't read very well on this one, especially where they said SELF-RISING flour. Considering my ``loaf'' grew to the grand height of about two inches, I'll make sure to get it right next time. But it still tasted good :)

FANTASTIC!

This bread is great and couldn't have been easier. I used a cheap beer (Milwaukee's Best) since I don't drink beer and the bread was still delicious! This recipe is a keeper. So simple! My husband even liked it. Tip - be sure to add the butter at the end, or you will end up with a crusty top instead of a soft buttery one.

After trying what seems like a million pre-made mixes, I found this recipe. What a FANTASTIC one! The ingredients are so inexpensive, easy to find and simple. It was easy enough that I made it with my three year old and it tasted far better than the mixes.(Even the expensive ones you buy at in-home cooking shows)I highly recomend this bread, especially with the winter months comming up. It is fabulous with soups and such!

A good, easy to make beer bread. Too done when I first tried it, now I cook it at 350? for about 5 minutes less, but it could be my oven. I would recommend a good, dark beer because you can taste the beer.

1t. baking powder + 1/2 t. salt +1C. flour = self - rising flour. Love the bread. Never keep self - rising flour on hand. Works with a little rye flour or whole wheat flour too.

This is the exact same recipe I have used for years. I love it! I am studying to become a registered dietician and have modified it to make it healthier by using a light beer and Splenda for baking, and it is still to die for. I have had more complements on this than anything else.

Hard To Beat
03/06/2005 at 11:41pm
User: DAN from Ossining, NY    User Rating:
It doesn't get much easier than this. I make this Beer Bread often. I have experimented with different beers and I have found that it is best made with "Honey Brown," which is a honey flavored lager. It makes the bread slightly sweet and there is no trace of bitterness like some of the other better known beers give the bread. The only drawback to this no brainer recipe is that the dough is extremely sticky and can be a little bit difficult to stir together. I have tried using just my hands, but I recomend using a wooden spoon and lots of good old-fashioned elbow grease. Also be careful not to pour in the beer in too fast as there is some initial foaming up, that can bubble right out of the bowl. This is so easy and smells terrific while baking.

I love this recipe

I thought it was a little to sweet so I added a little touch. Put in a 1/2 cup of sugar and with the other half I added cinnamon to the remaining sugar.I folded it into the already mixed batter and sprinkled some on the top.mmmmmmmmmmmm good in the morning.

This bread is great. Adding one egg makes it more moist. Also try adding 2 cups of shredded colby jack cheese or sun dried tomatoes and dried herbs. Try different beers, each brand gives it a completely different taste.
