We loved it

I eliminated the sour cream because my mother never made it that way and it was excellent. Next time, I'm adding lemon juice and some sugar to the tomato sauce. That too is the way I remember it...slightly sweet, but with a bit of a tang.

Takes a long time to prepare, especially the first time - about 1 hour. Can probably make the filling the night before. Should be careful when peeling off cabbage leaves. It is delicious and doesn't require too many ingredients.

just like grandma's

this recipe was just what I was looking for. Just like my grandmother used to make. I would add a little more nutmeg, and I cooked down some of the sauce, but YUMM!

This recipe was very easy to follow, and I loved the fact that there were not too many ingredients. The cabbage rolls turned out great and were a hit with the whole family.

You guys! try this! this is your basic and most delicious stuffed cabbage! Easy to make, comforting. Okay, I hate when people change recipes, and I've made it exactly like the recipe describes and it's wonderful, but feeling like I NEEDED this and not having ground beef on hand, I have substituted ground turkey and converted brown rice (equal amounts), for the beef and white rice and OMG! Both versions are excellent, but if your looking for an incredibly healthful alternative, you've got to try this! Enjoy! P.S. the leftovers are amazing....

I doctored up the sauce a bit after reading the reviews. The filling was great, and didn't need any help. I used a can of chopped tomatoes and a can of tomato sauce with the chicken stock, in place of the plain chopped tomatoes, and added a generous amount of italian seasonings for the sauce. It thickened up nicely, and had good flavor, too.

Pretty good recipe

This is a pretty good recipe. I think that the ground beef mixture can use a bit more seasoning, and the prep work needs extra planning because it needs cooked rice, but otherwise it is good.

The cabbage was enjoyed by my entire party. They even took home the leftovers. I wasn't to thrilled by the sauce - but the cabbage was good. I'll have to work on the sauce.

very easy

This was easier to make than I thought, based on the list of ingredients. I had to use regular cabbage, because the market was out of Savoy, but it was fine. I took the advice of one other reviewer and added a little sugar to the tomato sauce to cut the acid. My kids did not complain, so that is a good sign. I needed more than eight cabbage leaves for the amount of filling, though.

Great dish!

My father in-law compares these cabbage rolls to the ones HIS grandmother used to use after she moved here from Hungary. They are easy to make and taste great!!

This recipe can be a little tricky if you can't find the cabbage listed. If you have to use just a regular type of cabbage just take your time and don't get in a hurry. Wonderful flavors....a real nice dish for a cold evening. Very hearty and filling.

This version will convert you. The rolls are tender, moist and using converted rice (we like brown) prevents gumminess. Not wanting to consume all the grease that raw beef would produce, I cooked the meat just enough to take off the pink, then drained & cooled it before continuing the recipe. And I cheerfully admit to using Classico brand cabernet marinara sauce since other reviewers warned of a watery result with the recipe's sauce.

Had 'em fighting for the leftovers! Next time I'll give it a tiny little more tomato flavor.

I only make these on New Years because they are very time consuming. They are well worth it, and I think about the rolls the entire month of December, leading up to the big day!
