Very Good! 04/20/2008 at 05:31pm User: Anonymous User Rating: Made this a few minutes ago. Did not take much longer than 30 minutes. I used Farmer John precooked hot Cajun smoked sausage and chicken. Also added some hot crushed red peppers - love spicy food. It spiced it up a bit but not too much to take away from the original recipe but added a little zip to it. Also added a can of mild green chiles. Next time may add a red bell pepper for additional flavor and color. Over all, very good one pot meal. One Word - Awesome! 03/27/2008 at 05:44pm User: Sheri from Reading, PA User Rating: Watched Rachael make this one and had to try it. It smelled a little strange after I poured in the white wine and I was a little worried, but it tasted fantastic! What a great filling meal! My husband loved it and he hates stews. He loved eating the other half of the baguette of bread I used for the breadcrumbs! :) Tastes like a much more advanced recipe 02/11/2008 at 03:32am User: Anonymous User Rating: I have made this many times as part of our "once-a-month cooking" (which is really done every eight weeks or so). I call it cassoulet, and it really does taste just as good as French cassoulet recipes with lots of steps and much longer cooking times. It probably does benefit from "aging" a bit - whether that's on the stove, in the fridge or in the freezer as in our case. I find the quantities are enormous -- we double the recipe and it seems to make 10-12 servings. I do think there is too much meat in ratio to the beans/veg, but that is just my opinion. Next time I make it I shall add an extra can of beans and an extra can of tomatoes. We use all kinds of beans, whatever is on hand. A mix of cannellini, flageolet and borlotti is perfe. It's a gorgeous but easy recipe-- hope you like it. easiest version of cassoulet ever!! 12/09/2007 at 12:18pm User: Anonymous User Rating: i have been making this dish for probably 2 years now, and my husband asks for it all the time. i add more vegis to make a bigger pot - it is even better the second day. if you don't have all day to be making cassoulet like i don't, then this is a worthy, delicious and speedy alternative on a cold day. sorority approved! 06/19/2007 at 01:42pm User: Sarah from Fort collins, CO User Rating: I work as a sorority house chef and I have a hard time getting the girls to eat dishes other than "mac and cheese" and "pasta w/ marinara". This meal helped me develop thier palates so they will be more inclined to eat food with a grown-up flavor, while sticking to the comfort food feel. (they have a strange fear of pork)--now that I have earned their trust, maybe I can get them to eat salmon, ya think? Different and easy 04/03/2007 at 02:28pm User: Anonymous User Rating: It's so nice to be able to use items I normally keep around the house and combine them into a wonderful new meal. This meal I made on a Saturday afternoon which makes a great lunch and did not take much time at all. Awesome 03/11/2007 at 05:54pm User: Anonymous User Rating: This was an absolutely fantastic meal. I followed the directions exactly, and except for a few minor mishaps (not having my ingredients ready) it came out perfect! To Die for 03/08/2007 at 05:56pm User: HEIDI from West Des Moines, IA User Rating: I love this recipe! I made a big mistake and added 1 pound of bacon instead of a strip. You can say that the bacon added even more flavor to this already dynamite dish. Thanks Rach! 02/04/2007 at 04:47pm User: Anonymous User Rating: I discovered this recipe in her cookbook about a year ago (that one had chicken breasts instead of pork chops) and I enjoyed it. So I thought; if this 30 minute meal is this good, then the real thing has to be even better. So for a dinner party, I found a very involved complicated recipe with duck confit and rabbit as well as several other meats and ingrediants. I spent twice as much, worked all day (literally started it in the morning to serve it at night) and in the end I'd wished that I had used Rachel's recipe instead. It tasted much better! I have made this several times and even doubled the recipe to keep portions in the freezer. Thanks Rach! This one is awesome! Surprisingly Good 11/13/2006 at 03:14pm User: SHAWN from Santa Clara, CA User Rating: This was not bad at all, my son who is a picky eater went back for more! Makes a great winter meal for those cold nights! I do agree with another review if you do have time to let it simmer a little longer the flavors realy come together. Gets better every time I make it. 10/10/2006 at 01:28pm User: Laura from Champlin, MN User Rating: I made this again last night and I like it more each time I make it. I do doctor it up with a few more spices and, of course, more garlic. I serve it to my husband over pasta and he just loves it. Thank you Rachel! YUMMO! Rustic Meat & Bean Pot 02/10/2006 at 02:36pm User: Anonymous User Rating: This recipe was just average tasting. Not terrible, just not great either. I probably won't make it again. Hearty and Then Some 01/28/2006 at 04:39pm User: MARK from Milwaukee, WI User Rating: This is a great alternative to chili or spaghetti on a cold fall night in Milwaukee WI. If you are picky about meat eating this is not the dish for you. I found it easy to prepare and delicious. I think next time I make it I'll try lamb stew meat instead of pork. Crowd pleaser 01/08/2006 at 01:55pm User: Michele from Columbus, OH User Rating: This was a great success with the entire family--even the pickiest eaters! Once everything is cut up, the dish goes quickly. I found the flavors were enhanced by placing the prepared stew in a crockpot for several hours. Great for parties the cook wants to enjoy! unedible 12/29/2005 at 06:43pm User: caroline from bronx, NY User Rating: i thought this looked so good. i followed the recipe to the T and we threw it out and made sandwiches. love rachel but this has as much flavor as an old shoe Great for a winter meal 12/11/2005 at 05:58pm User: BRIAN from Bolingbrook, IL User Rating: Substituted half a pound or two links of hot Italian Sausage, dark red kidney beans and it was great for a cold winter day. Very hearty and filling. A Great Hearty Meal 11/13/2005 at 11:53am User: CAROL from Stanwood, WA User Rating: Men love this dish and it is a perfect alternative to Chili nite. Perfect autumn meal 10/24/2005 at 10:24am User: Anonymous User Rating: Had friends over last night and made this recipe. It was the perfect meal for a chilly fall evening. Delicious! 03/21/2005 at 06:04pm User: Anonymous User Rating: We loved this dish! I, too, cooked it longer which just helped to meld the flavors. Definitely a keeper! Scrumptious 02/12/2005 at 12:33am User: BARBI from Austin, TX User Rating: We can't get enough of this "faux" cassoulet. It's been our favorite cold weather recipe this season, warming and comforting. Fantastic 02/09/2005 at 10:48am User: RONALDO from Atlanta, GA User Rating: Loved it... loved it ... loved it!!! Perfect meal for cold dreay winter day. Served bread on the side instead of it the cassoulet - made it easier to eat. Family and guest all wanted seconds and this was a tough crowd. Made mine is 3o minutes but let it sit and simmer for another hour before serving to marry all the flavors. awesome 02/02/2005 at 02:27pm User: CATHY from williston, VT User Rating: can't get enough of this. I personally prefer less sausage, but this is a great dish! MMMMMMM Heart & Great! 01/19/2005 at 10:15pm User: SANDY from San Mateo, CA User Rating: Wow, just finished making this dish, and am eating it as I type this review. This was very easy to make and the flavors rock! You can taste every morsel still w/out one competing against the other. Goes great with bread or even rice! Thanks Rachel for another great meal for under 1 hour!!! Fabulous Meal!!!! 01/19/2005 at 12:04pm User: WENDY from Rancho Cordova, CA User Rating: I believe it takes a special talent to cook and know what flavors that go with what your cooking. But I am telling you that this is a great meal and have nothing negative to say. And you did a great Job Rachel!! I never watch cooking shows and when you said 30 minutes I was intrigued. It took only 30 minutes. When it was done I enjoyed myself a meal. It was so great I drove some to my mother's house and she enjoyed it very much. Thanks so much for an easy and simple meal. Wendy Rancho Cordova, Ca. AWESOME!!! 01/19/2005 at 09:37am User: KELLY from Sioux falls, SD User Rating: This is a new favorite in our house. I added more sausage and another slice of bacon. What a wonderful dish on a cold South Dakota night! Thanks! quick for a cold night 01/18/2005 at 08:25pm User: VICKY from Vancouver, WA User Rating: This recipe with a few personal touches is a great hit in our house especially with our busy schedule, and it's perfect on those cold winter nights. DALISH!!! 01/18/2005 at 01:44pm User: Anonymous User Rating: At first I thought this recipe would be too filling however I knew that my husband along with my two boys would love all the meat in this stew... so I decided to try it. It was absolutely delicious! There was indeed a lot of meat but the flavors were intense but light. I loved this recipe and would make it often! Thanks Rachel. INCREDIBLE!!! 01/16/2005 at 04:13pm User: KATHY from Bradenton, FL User Rating: This is absolutely the best one pot meal we've ever eaten! The taste is fabulous. I am a pretty experienced cook and was not able to cook this in 30 minutes besides which I had several mishaps trying to juggle the broiling of the sausages and the rest of it. Next time I will put the sausages on, chop the veggies, and THEN start the bacon frying. This is going to be made at our house VERY often! Thanks to Rachael for a terrific recipe! Comfort Food 12/10/2004 at 04:54pm User: Anonymous User Rating: This cassoulet knock-off is a filling, warming dish for those cold, gray days. I have tried a couple of much longer cooking versions, and Rachael's thirty minute dish gives you just about as much flavor with much less effort. good flavor but odd consistency 12/08/2004 at 07:32pm User: BETTY from Notasulga, AL User Rating: The dish was simple to prepare and had a good flavor but it has a very strange consistency. Terrific 11/23/2004 at 11:55am User: Anonymous User Rating: This was a great recipe. Everyone in my family ate it. I didn't have to cook five different meals. I did cook it for a while longer to cook down the tomatoes and it was great. Fantastic! 10/28/2004 at 06:33am User: Anonymous User Rating: This is the best recipe! It resembles a cassoulet, but much easier, and it has a ton of flavor!!! I only used chicken and sausage, and substituted pancetta for the bacon as I had it in the fridge. As usual, with Rachael's recipes, it can be done in a short amount of time, but I think this did benefit from a longer simmering time, if you have it! This is a dish that was devoured and we can't wait to make it again! Go make this recipe now! Delicious! 10/23/2004 at 04:32pm User: LYNN from Paramus, NJ User Rating: This is a very hearty and tasty dish. It didn't take much time to put together. I put the carrot, celery, onion and garlic in the food processor which for me was quicker. A good tip for cutting up the meat is to slightly freeze it. Also I use scissors to cut the bacon. Absolutely wonderful and don't forget a loaf of good quality french baguette One Pot Wonder!! 10/02/2004 at 06:26pm User: WENDY from Natick, MA User Rating: EXCELLENT!!! 08/30/2004 at 03:23am User: Anonymous User Rating: I've made this recipe twice and each time I get rave reviews. I actually replaced the bacon with ham steak and use Spicy turkey sausage....AMAZING! Kim Connecticut 06/19/2004 at 11:20am User: KIM from Milldale, CT User Rating: a real good meal |
