This was yummy! The panko lended a nice crispiness. I was concerned that the mac would fall apart but it held together perfectly.

This was a great idea for "next day" mac and cheese. I would not make this on a regular basis but it was a very decadent treat.

only way to eat this recipe the second day

I didn't particularly like the Mac and Cheese the second day but this dish gave the meal new life.

I tried this recipe right after I saw the episode it appeared on and, "OH MY GOODNESS!" This is the best recipe I have ever made from a leftover comfort food. Yeah, yeah, yeah it is fatty, but SO What! Just do eat it every day or better yet share the wealth with others and take it to a potluck. Thanks AB for this one, I am a faithful fan of your show although I must admit the motorcyle road show was zzzzzzzzzzzz. But I love you as commentator on Iron Chef America and Good Eats is one of my favorite shows.

oh my god. alton has done it again

My kids love this although my older one is on a bread crumb strike. Works great without it though. Nice crusty top anyway.

This recipe is really good and yummy. Make bitesize and serve at your superbowl party, etc. For ease, use leftover Stoffer's Mac and Chesse -- it sticks togeter great -- perfect of easy snack food.

my two year old son loves noddles of any kind and i have tried this recipe and using my left over "rainbow cheese smiles" it is like he gets an amazing surprize inside. only thing is you have to be very carful on how crispy it gets when your baby only has 8 to 10 teeth to chew with. Thank you giving this idea to me for my son to eat left overs:)courtney mickelson

I never dreamed that fried mac'n cheese would be good - actually, it's GREAT. A dash of hot sauce is yummy with it, too.

just make sure the oil is the right temp, or it can get too greasy.

I have made this several times; I make the baked version just so I can fry it the next day. Super yummy!

Great way to use leftover!

Good example of setting up moist foods for deep frying (flour - egg wash - panko). Warms up mac and cheese nicely, crust adds nice flavor. If using AB's stove top recipe, the pepper-cayenne seasoning compliments it nicely.

The only problem is that this meal is totally fine next day with out the "toast" ... the frying made my kids happy and they loved it .. So I would do it again ... to them it was a whole new meal.

the recipe at 1st seemed a little bit out of my league. I then tried it and lo and behold a yummy snack which my little niece could not stop eating.I was a close second when it came to chowing on the goodies. I would recommend this to mom's who like to cook ahead of time & pop these babies in a toaster oven or regular oven for only a few minutes t warm them up. Heck they even taste good cold.

Great Idea!

We loved this idea... Didn't follow recipe exactly though. We don't care for "spicy" so... We just left the spices out. Son doesn't like bread crumbs so... we just used flour for final coating. I've always made too much mac & cheese - Now I know what to do with the left-overs! Thanks Alton - Just Love Your Show!

Didn`t think much of it

Personally, I thought that cooking it a second time intensified the onion flavor. Although my wife and stepdaughter like to dip it in their tomato soup.

Next Day, just reheat it

The Next Day Mac and Cheese "toast". Was good, but not better than the original baked. Would probably not make again for friends or family, unless asked to.

If this is heart-attack-on-a-plate, so be it. I never would've thought of this, but it's great. Just eat it while it's still hot from the fryer. If it gets cold, and has to be re-heated, it's still "good", but it never gets back to "great".

Alton Brown is my hero, and after you try deep fried mac and cheese, he will be yours too! This recipe is so easy, and absolutely delicious. My tip: Cut the mac and cheese into rectangular slabs (rather than cubes). This lets you reheat left overs in the toaster, keeping the breading golden brown and delicious!

OK, AB's nephew was right when he deemed this dish "Heart attack on a plate," but I think I could eat it every day. It is that good. I always hide a portion of the mac and cheese in order to make this next-day-meal (otherwise it all gets eaten, and I am out of luck.) We will make this a regular weekend meal at our house.
