I made these beans for Thanksgiving and EVERYONE loved them. My husband says they are like what his father used to make and he is thrilled after all these years of me trying to capture the right flavor for him. (I never got to try his fathers beans so that made it difficult). Thanks so much for foodnetwork!

My hubby is the cook in the family, and when he saw this on "Emeril Live", he couldn't wait to prepare the green beans for us. The slow-cooked green beans brought memories of my mom fixing them for Sunday dinners. My 6yr. old daughter loves to help her dad sort & snap beans before he cooks them.

Easy. Came out just like my southern grandma used to do back in the 40's. A great memory for my family.

The longer you cook them the better they become.

Yee Haw!

My in-laws are Southern, and these would have passed just fine on their table! I used country ham and a little bacon instead of the ham-hock (because i didn't have a ham-hock), and it was DEEE-lish! At first I didn't add the salt from the recipe, thinking that the salt from the ham would be plenty, but in the final seasoning it ended up needing more. Also, for a little bit of indulgence, i threw in a stick of butter before serving! Yum!

Nothing special. Just overcooked green beans.

These were edible, but I won't make again. They were just soggy, overcooked veggies. Reminded me of canned veggies. I'm sticking with slightly cooked, crispy green beans.

That's how we do it in the South

Just like grandmother made them. Doesn't get much better.

BEST GREEN BEAN RECIPE

I never liked green bean casseroles, so I always had steamed green beans because I could never find a great recipe for this ingredient. I was a bit weary about this one but gave it a try. It does take a little time, but very little effort. I actually replaced the water with chicken stock and the broth was absolutely delicious. Thanks Emeril!

Just like grandma's green beans

This recipe turned out wonderfully. It tasted just like my grandma's green beans. I used bacon instead of the ham hock and it was awesome. Emeril has yet to dissappoint me with his recipes.
