Great, with a few tweaks...

I didn't think that 6 apples would fill a 9X13 pan, so I decided to double the apple portion of the recipe. However, after I cut seven apples, it was obvious that they would fill just fine. Unfortunately, I forgot to change the recipe and still doubled the cinnamon mixture that went on the apples. WAY too much!!! That made it bitter, but still edible. The other thing I did to the apples was to add 2 TBSP of flour because it seemed like they would get too juicy and might need a thickener. That was a perfect idea and it worked. Then, I made 1 and 1/2 times the topping (we always like extra). That was also a good idea - but next time, I will just go ahead and double the topping. The topping was perfect - just like my grandma used to make. Finally, I baked at 375 for about 30 minutes. It was soo good. The apples were still a little firm and the topping was golden. Next time, it'll be perfect because I won't mess up the cinnamon. Deeelish!

I made this recipe to take to a cook out. Everyone talked about how great it was. I think the graham crackers is what makes it so special. I took the advice of other reviews and doubled the topping...perfect. I can't imagine anybody having difficulty with this recipe as I am a horrible cook.

My husband is one of the pickiest eaters I've ever known, and I gotta tell you, he LOVED this recipe. The only thing I tweaked was doubling up the "crisp" portion as per other reviewer's suggestions. The apples were tender and the graham crackers complemented them so well. We ate this alone, it doesn't even need the ice cream.

Delicious!

The suggestions for this recipe were what I went along with. It was great! 1. Be sure to use graham crackers instead of flour. 2. Double the "crust" of the recipe. A full stick of butter, a full cup of brown sugar, and a full cup of crushed graham crackers. 3. Bake until the apples are somewhat mushy. Mine took about 20-22 minutes. 4. Don't panic if you don't have a lemon or lemon juice. It may taste a little different, but it doesn't affect the texture of the dish. Cheers to Rachael's sister! =D

This is the easiest and most delicious recipe for Apple Crisp I have come across. I have tried a ton of them since I live in apple country in Michigan and this is simply the best. Ingredients that you always have on hand so you can whip it up at a moments notice when company drops in or you have a ton of apples that you need to take care of! Rach is my favorite and credited with my addiction to the Food Network! Wish we could see more of her shows, where have they gone?!

User: Diane from Jericho, NY    User Rating:
There was way too much flour in the crumb topping recipe and cooking time was not correct. It said 15-20 minutes. Apples were still hard and crumb topping was not cooking correctly because of all the flour. I left it in for another ten minutes and apples were cooked a little more and crumb topping started to burn. Don't waste your time with this recipe. Had to throw it away.

I used Paula Red apples because I had quite a few of them. I did double up on the 'crisp' and I used Splenda and Smart Balance versus sugar and butter. I'm inclined to say right now that I would probably not double the Smart Balance but just tasting it I'd say I have something easy to throw together and tastes great for a quick fall dessert. It certainly lends itself to the variations that everyone has offered! Thank you for sharing this one!

The weather was chilly tonight, and I had to supply dessert for 40+ people. Made several batches, and found a great trick. People have been debating here about using the flour or graham cracker for the crisp. Since I doubled the topping, I used 1/2 cup of both. It came out great without being too sweet. For the last two batches, I threw in a handfull (about half a cup) of peanuts, and they loved it. The ice cream gives a great hot/cold balance and is a MUST. I will be keeping this recipe in my box of favorites. THANK YOU RACHAEL RAY!!!!!

First of all I like Rachel Ray and the food she makes on her show always looks good but when I made this apple crisp I was REALLY disappointed..it was awful. It just didn't taste good and i had to throw it away. Keep away from this apple crisp recipe and instead go on google and you're much better off getting a recipe from there that calls for oats.

I really like this recipe, however I usually add more apples. I find that there is too little apples and it goes too fast otherwise. I also generally use Granny Smiths and peel them to make them less tart. I also cook them for longer than the recipe calls for with the added amount of apples. But I find that the seasonings and topping portions are exactly what you need. This is always a favorite with my family and friends.

It took me a bit more than 30 min, but i will admit i took the time to grate my own cinnimon and nutmeg. Whatever you do, DO NOT OMIT THE ICE CREAM!! It turns this desert into a masterpice!
