Simply Heavenly 12/29/2006 at 11:45pm User: Katie from Irvine, CA User Rating: Ina's Lemon Angel Food Cake is the best yet. I had to improvise because I didn't have enough eggs and did not have cake flour and it still turned out EXCELLENT!!! I loved the texture and taste, and especially the guilt free part of it. Well done again Ina! I love all of your recipes, and this is no exception! (Note: cake flour is quite expensive, and not a basic that is always in my pantry, so I substituted it for a makeshift cake flour of 1 3/4 cup all-purpose flour and 1/4 cup of corn starch...sift together and use in this fantastic recipe!) I love this cake 12/29/2006 at 11:50am User: Judy from Saint Paul, MN User Rating: This is the second time I have made this cake. It is heavenly. I followed the recipe very carefully and the second time my cake was so high and beautiful. I love Ina. TOO MUCH SUGAR!! 08/12/2007 at 06:25pm User: candice from los angeles, CA User Rating: I don't understand how everyone found this recipe to be good. There was 2 cups of sugar in it!!! It tasted like i just put a tabelspoon of sugar in my mouth with every bite. What is wrong with you Ina? what a waste. I'm gonna use this recipe next time http://www.foodnetwork.com/food/recipes/recipe/0,,FOOD_9936_984,00.html?rsrc=search Sick delicious and very easy 08/11/2007 at 10:15pm User: joyce from manchester, MO User Rating: It doesn't get much easier except if you use the plastic tasting box mixes. This is an excellent easy to follow recipe with great tasting and beautiful looking results. I've tried several scratch angel food cake recipes before and mostly hocky pucks is what I achieved so I was a little nervous at the start. But take it from me this recipe is A winner! Overweight, going to eat this cake! 08/10/2007 at 05:40pm User: Tara from tampa, FL User Rating: Hey there--just got done watching the show where she made an angel food cake and it was not this one, i read another review about the lemon one so i came to ck it out. after reading the reviews i see that there is one who is discusted with INA!!!!! This is a place to rate recipe's not have a chat room. And who the hell cares if i made her money, had her success(or paula deans) I would not care about carrying some extra pounds. I am not sure why the world is so into appearance--but anyway, I am sure this is great along with everything she makes. Ina is a wonderful rold model to women now a days, great chef, homemaker and longevity of marriage(take come advice from her and don't concern yourself about her weight). Superb! 06/18/2007 at 01:31pm User: Anonymous User Rating: This is by far the best angel food cake recipe I've tried. Don't be afraid to try it. Its my husband's favorite dessert and always comes out perfect. Be sure to use parchment paper on the bottom on the pan. A Cook from Laguna Niguel soooo good 06/14/2007 at 03:23pm User: Jill from Lawrenceville, GA User Rating: This was so good. This was my 3rd attempt at making an angel food cake and it came out perfect. I tried 2 different recipes and they flopped. This one is a winner. I couldn't find super fine sugar, so I put granulated sugar in my food processor for a couple of minutes. Thanks Ina for another great recipe! Best Lemon Angel Food Cake 06/12/2007 at 06:37pm User: Laura from Redondo Beach, CA User Rating: The cake is light and sweet - no glaze or frosting needed! Easy as Angel Food Cake 05/25/2004 at 08:56pm User: Anonymous User Rating: This recipe was very easy to follow, quick to produce and it tastes great. Light and delicious 04/30/2007 at 09:41am User: Laura from Little Rock, AR User Rating: While my finished cake was not as beautiful as Ina's, it was still tasty. I was very hesitant to try this recipe since egg whites are notoriously hard to work with, but I followed the recipe and it baked up pretty well. The cake has a light hint of lemon and the texture is moist and fluffy. For my first try at angel food cake, this one turned out great! I will try again with different flavorings. "Annonymous" needs to find a better hobby 04/24/2007 at 01:55pm User: Giada from spring grove, IL User Rating: I found it quite laughable that this "annonymous" character not only berated Ina for a most successful recipe... but continued to make a point of Ina's physical flaws. True, Ina may be a little on the heavy side.. but personally, i love that about her..SHE'S HUMAN! Also, that shows us that she does eat, and is not just some t.v. chef making all this money but not standing behind her work...Not to mention, Ina's success... I think someone ( Annonymous) is quite jealous of Ina's t.v, her work with the White House ( not even cooking related, but quite admirable)and the success of her specialty store... So, in turn, my message for Ina, is to keep up the beautiful success, and to " Annonymous"... "get bent, or get over your obvious jealousy over Ina Garten.!" P.s. If you're going to rag on someone, don't do it annonymously, grow some balls! Light and Delicious 04/24/2007 at 11:45am User: Kim from Birch Run, MI User Rating: Super light and fluffy with a hint of lemon. Wonderful! Light and Lemony 04/17/2007 at 06:54pm User: Kate from Norman, OK User Rating: Yummy! This cake was light and had the perfect amount of lemon. I served it up with macerated strawberries and raspberries and it was a super hit. It is a little time-consuming and filled my very tiny kitchen with dustings of sifted flour, but it was so worth it. AMAZING!! 04/10/2008 at 07:46pm User: Anonymous User Rating: I was in the mood for a light lemony cake, and what better fits this description than an lemon angel food cake? i cracked the eggs, and sifted the flour with great care hopefully ensuring a good outcome, and it was better than i could have hoped :) the texture was light and fluffy, and it had a perfect sweet lemon flavor (even though i used lemon extract instead of zest) i would definatly make this again. wonderful!!I 04/09/2008 at 10:28am User: SARAH from OMAHA, NE User Rating: this cake was easy to make and delicious, have always been intimated by making an angel food cake but not anymore.I did use egg beaters egg whites and worked great, everyone loved it, its a keeper for sure! Delicious 04/05/2007 at 04:40pm User: Anonymous User Rating: This cake came out wonderful. It was so light and very moist. I made it for a family dinner and there was not a crumb left. I served it with Emeril's raspberry sauce. This recipe is a keeper. I love Ina!! 04/02/2007 at 08:53am User: Eileen from Boynton Beach, FL User Rating: Honestly haven't made this yet. Have bought a 9 3/8" pan, can't find a 10" nywhere! Does anyone know if making this delicious sounding cake is going to be a disaster with this pan size? Please help, I REALLY want to EAT this cake(salivating at the thought!). I gave this five starts because Ina is the best, she deserves five stars. This cake has a great taste and flavor 02/16/2007 at 02:51pm User: Anonymous User Rating: I baked three angle food cakes in one day. This one was my favorite! It was light and the lemon flavor was perfect. mmh 02/05/2007 at 10:37am User: johanna from san francisco, CA User Rating: very easy and tastes great Beautiful Cake 01/23/2007 at 10:25pm User: Stacee from New Philadelphia, OH User Rating: I had never tried to make an angel food cake before. It was beautiful. The taste was wonderful. I wish I would have taken a picture of it. It raised so high. I will definately make this again!!!!! absolutely yummy 01/19/2006 at 06:40pm User: tammy from phoenix, AZ User Rating: The first angel food cake i've ever made and tastes so much better than store bought that i don't think i'll ever buy another one. really light and airy!! 01/18/2006 at 11:58am User: Anonymous User Rating: this tasted great and everyone loved it. made three for a party and not even a crumb was left. Delicious Cake! 01/15/2007 at 11:32am User: Anonymous User Rating: This lemon angel food cake is quite delicious. It is very light and has a very subtle lemon taste, the lemon is not overwhelming at all. The cake is not too sweet. Perfect to serve for a shower or just to have for yourself with a hot cup of tea. Absolutely PERFECT 01/14/2007 at 07:10pm User: Kerri from Dexter, MO User Rating: This cake is the essential angel food. The lemon essence is perfect, not too overbearing but light and fresh tasting. The cake itself is amazing. My family begs for this cake. Ina, you're like a member of our family. My young girls, 14 and 7, always watch your show with me. Thanks!! YUMMY!!! 01/14/2007 at 12:33pm User: carolyn from camarillo, CA User Rating: This is the first time I have ever made angel food cake and I couldn't have picked a better recipe. Very easy to make and the taste was out of this world. I'll be making this cake again. Best Ever Angel Food Cake 01/14/2005 at 03:17pm User: GLORIA from Maple Grove, MN User Rating: One word for this cake...Excellent! I have made it many times. It is the only one I make now. It is so light and fresh...great with berries. My teenage son requests it for his birthday. It is simply the best! Best Ever 01/13/2007 at 04:20pm User: Elizabeth from Bay City, MI User Rating: Beautiful cake, easy to make...thanks! Sssh already 01/13/2006 at 02:07am User: Kat from Corpus Christi, TX User Rating: First of all, to Jill and to anonymous, DON'T REVIEW THE RECIPE IF YOU HAVEN'T EVEN MADE THE CAKE. I honestly could care less what your opinion of the chef is. I found this cake very light and delicious. I'll never buy a store bought angel food cake again. Delicious!!! 01/11/2006 at 10:17am User: Anonymous User Rating: Best I have ever made or tasted. Loved the lemon, the great outside crust it made and the soft center. Outstanding 01/10/2005 at 12:43am User: BARBARA from Marietta, GA User Rating: I have never liked angel food cakes until I made this one. I have made it 4 or 5 times and it's wonderful each time. It is worth a dozen of eggs to make. shes just being honest but...........................oh about anonymous......... 01/09/2006 at 10:04am User: jill from miami, FL User Rating: i myself havnt made it yet but am about too, im sure it will be very good tho, yes contessa is overweight(but so am i), she normally uses fattening things in her recipes, but not as much in this one(and everyone knows angel cake is lighter than the normal cake), give her some slack, i think you went overboard on your comments for this recipe(thier are differnt ways of cutting back calories), you just dont only have to eat fiber and no butter things. I love contessa(shes one of my favorites) she usually uses only the freshest of things in her recipes!! Perfect Dessert 01/09/2006 at 08:56am User: Joyce from buffalo, NY User Rating: Easy, really and I'm not a cake baker. Perfect for after the holidays. With regard to Anonymous's comments. This is a troubled failed dieter trying yet again to diet, but would rather eat cake! Ina never called this a diet program. Never used the word "diet". This program was a "lighting" your food for a day. Good advice for Anonymous lighten up. Ina is light, joyous, grace and kind to share her life with us. Thank you Ina,as always. Too much prep 01/08/2007 at 12:38pm User: Anonymous User Rating: The cake was good, but way too much prep involved for me; I am not sure where Ina came up with the 20 minute estimate. Joan San Antonio TX 01/08/2006 at 08:56pm User: JOAN from san antonio, TX User Rating: This is directed to Anonymous who said that Ina alsways says she know this is a lot of butter but it makes the recipe. She does not say that!!!! She says I know this is a lot of butter but it makes a lot of servings!!!!! You should start listening and stop being so critical. This is a great recipe. By the way, maybe you should tune in to another show. None of Ina's supporters will miss you. To Anonymous 01/08/2006 at 04:19pm User: Paula from Mt Prospect, IL User Rating: I haven't tried this yet, but plan to, despite what incredibly rude and bitter comments were made by "Anonymous" which is also by the way cowardly. Nothing is lower then criticism followed by insults. Do you have nothing better to do then watch a show that you obviously have great disdain for and then write hateful reviews? Watch another show, get another hobby. I don't care to read trash like that. Ina, I'll give YOU 4 stars for having to put up with junk like that! Poo on 1/7/06 review 01/08/2006 at 01:34pm User: NANCY from Saint Petersburg, FL User Rating: First, if you have the guts to criticize, then you need to have the guts to post your name. Secondly, Angel Food cake has long been known as a low-fat dessert and is on most plans. Not everything can be made with whole-wheat flour. You have to use common sense in your diet. If you don't like her cooking, why do you watch the show. You could try this with Splenda. Wonderful! 01/07/2006 at 04:34pm User: Anonymous User Rating: I have always like angel food cake and decided to make one at home myself. It was easy and did not make me feel "heavy or full". Great for summer. In her cookbook, it is shown with a glaze and that is how i made it. I did not have cake flour so I followed a substitution list and just ended up reducing the amount of all purpose flour. Thanks Ina---you are my favorite!!! Only Ina Garten Would Call This Diet Food 01/07/2006 at 01:40pm User: Anonymous User Rating: Ina Garten knows about as much about healthy food as my dog knows about boxing. I found the whole premise for this show -- "feel good food" -- to be a hoot, because anyone who's ever watched the Barefoot Contessa in action knows that lite cooking is not her forte. Every recipe begins with butter, and over the holidays, she even did a recipe that called for 2.5 pounds of butter! A common excuse on Barefoot Contessa is "I know this is a lot of [butter/salt/meat/fat/sugar/],but it really makes the recipe." So the idea of taking diet tips from Ina Garten -- no svelte debutanate -- is laughable. All I can say is that no recipe that uses both white flour and white sugar can be considered healthy, good for you, or diet. Period. This is dieting Barefoot Contessa style, and you'll end up looking like she does if you follow her advice. Delicious! 01/03/2007 at 07:36pm User: Anonymous User Rating: This was delicious! Ina you're great! You're the best chef on TV! Delicious! 01/03/2006 at 12:47pm User: cathy from randolph, MA User Rating: This cake is so easy to make and just delicious. It doesn't last long. Make sure to use the superfine sugar though. I made it once with regular sugar and it did come out a bit different. Ina does it again!! |
