I never would have tried canned salmon, but watching RR prepare these pushed me to do it. EASY and very good. Had leftovers the next day and they were as good. I'm planning to make these part of my regular work day suppers.

Yummy!

easy to make with loads of flavor! try it, you won't be disappointed, I wasn't. My daughter made these for her 4 yrs olds Sponge Bob birthday party, called them Crabby Patties. (have to be a fan of the show to get that).

Delicious

These were a great midweek meal, quick and filling. I used one can of salmon and pretty much halved everything else, it made two perfect servings. Served over the greens with the remoulade on top, definitely looked restaurant ready. I highly recommend these!

mushy and gross

User: Kelly from Grantham, NH    User Rating:
The only reason my fiance ate these was because he didnt want to insult me. Eventually I told him I thought they were gross and I wasnt eating them-- he agreed, we tossed them in the trash and ate salad and couscous for dinner. All's well that ends well-- and the couscous was delish, so we were fine :)

Great with tuna too

I made these for dinner last night and they were excellent. I do not like salmon, but my husband does so I split the recipe and made half of the cakes salmon and the other half tuna. We will definatley be adding this recipe to our frequently eaten meals.

Salmon Cakes

I rated this recipe low because of the amount of Cracker Meal called for in the recipe way entirely too much filler for what could be a delicious Salmon Cake, otherwise. I followed the recipe completely rather than adjust the amount of filler. I like to taste the Salmon, but it was lost in the filler. All of the other ingredients were great, especially the bed of lettuce with lemon juice and olive oil. I will try this recipe again, but will use very little Cracker Meal.

These are great

ULTIMATE Salmon Cakes

User: A. from Prescott, AZ    User Rating:
My girlfriends are STILL talking about these salmon cakes and it has been almost a week since I made them. All the ingredients work beautifully together. *Note - instead of plating with greens, I plated with a chipotle sauce that I made to give it a Southwest kick. Made the sauce by using a bottled chipotle marinade/sauce and mixed in a 1/4 c. sour cream, 1/4 c. mayo and 2 tablespoons water. I heated this through and served warm. Just LOVELY!

Awesome!!!

Just made this for my family! It was so wonderful! The tangy, freshness of the salad was a perfect compliment to the moist, delicious patties. Crispy on the outside and soft and yummy inside.Strong, but not overpowering at all. We didn't even need the sauce. Just every bite with the salad! :)

Fabolous!

These salmon cakes are fabolous. Everyone was raving about them. I used a different sauce though. Tzatziki sauce with a little lemon and alot of chili powder is wonderful.

Salmon is not crab and shouldn't be seasoned accordingly

There was much that I liked in this recipe: the red pepper and the chives were additions I don't normally make to salmon cakes (dill and lemon, I love). But I was little wary that this recipe seemed more like a crab cake mixture than a salmon cake, and I wish I had trusted my instincts. My first bites of these cakes were pleasing, but it went downhill as the Old Bay came to the fore. I'm new to Old Bay, and I love it with crab and shrimp. But it does not work well with salmon, and this recipe calls for a lot of it (2 teaspoons). Take out the Old Bay, and you have a great recipe. You could even sub a dash of nutmeg, if you want some spice background. Or, swap the salmon for crab, and you have great crab cakes. Could have been really good, but the Old Bay ruined it for me.

Pretty great

Terrific. Sionce we are on a low fat diet, I sprayed cakes with EVOO and baked 350" for 10 -15 min. Have also made it in a lightly oiled loaf pan and baked 375' for 30 min

As usual, Rachel Ray has hit the exact taste combination for salmon; fast & easy to prepare. My freinds and family loved the dish and I was able to bring an old standard back to our table with a new twist. I've used canned & fresh salmon and both worked perfectly.

I made these salmon cakes on a night when all I wanted to make was PB&J. I was that tired, but my son asked for salmon cakes. They were so easy and so good. I used salmon in foil bags but they still tasted so fresh. I loved the salad that went with it. It was easy and simple and just delicous. The flavors blended nicely. My kids loved the chili sauce and mayo dressing!

Fish cakes are fish cakes
05/04/2006 at 01:13am
User: Anonymous    User Rating:
I'm not a big fan of fish cakes, never have been, and this recipe really doesn't do much to elevate their status by my taste. As far as fish cakes go, they stay together well and certainly brown up nicely. It's and attractive and filling dish. As a quick meal and as a change from chicken (a staple in our household), it was different. Not horrible. Not great. But a successful "method" recipe I'll keep in mind, should anyone ever actually request these for dinner.

These are terrific (I used one whole egg in salmon .. "worked" just fine). The salad complements the salmon to a "T". I doubled & served to women friends for lunch. Didn't prepare scones (this time); served mini orange-date muffins from "bread" recipe on this site. NOTE to 2 of the reviewers: the bones should be crushed & mixed in -they are A GOOD SOURCE OF CALCIUM.

These turned out perfect for me. I didn't have any Old Bay so I used paprika, garlic and onion powder, and a dash of lemon pepper instead. I also took Rachel's lead and eyeballed amounts of crackermeal and egg until I got the right consistency (similar to hambuger). Perhaps the people who had cakes that were too runny or dense didn't do this?

Very good

I thought these we're too salty (i'd cut that in half at least), the patties we're far to large and thick but other than that they were ok. I will probably try making this again going easier on the seasonings and make a smaller thinner patty.

These are some of the best salmon cakes I have ever had. My mom used to make them when I was kid, but these beat the pants off of those. (Sorry mom!) I loved the hot and spicy of the salmon cakes and the cool and refreshing flavor of the citrus salad. I may even spice the cakes up just one more notch next time. Thanks Rachael for another hit.

These Salmon cakes turned out better than any i've made before! I really think that the crakermeal is the key. Most recipes call for bread crumbs and they always have a funny texture when pan-fried. Next time i make them though, im going to hold back a little on the crackermeal. I used exactly what it called for and they were just a little too dense. Thanks again Rachel, for a GREAT 30 min meal!

Recipe for salmon cakes was good outline. I poached salmon in white wine and water, old bay and bay leaf... I modified a bit to make it a bit more figure friendly. Added ground shrimp, 1/2 c of bread crumbs. Once cooked, I served over spinach salad with mushrooms, walnuts and cherries and 1 oz. of goat cheese. Will add this to my repertiore of salmon dishes.

The recipe had too much cracker meal and had very little salmon taste. In fact, it had very little flavor at all! I would reduce the cracker meal by 1/2 cup and increase the salmon by 6 oz.
