This makes a stunning ending for a summer dinner party. oohs & aahs when you bring it to the table. I agree with other reviewers-DO take the time to make the lemon curd yourself; store bought just does NOT compare. Make it the night before. I made 1 1/2 recipes for 10 people, just right. Couldn't find lemon pound cake-regular works just fine. Also substituted 1/2 of the blackberries with raspberries (price of blackberries was astronomical). Will definitely be making this again!

I made this for the 4th but I substituted plain pound cake & pre-made lemon curd(Duerrs). I also doubled the recipe & layered it in a plastic container for ease of traveling. I only drizzled the limoncello on 1 layer of the cake (mainly because I forgot to do the rest)but I don't feel it was missed as the lemon curd provided plenty of tartness even after mixing in whipped cream. I can only imagine how it would've turned out if I'd used the lemon pund cake as well, I think it would've been too much. Apparently the dessert turned out very well as I only had a small portion to take home with me & there were 4 other berry type desserts. IMO the Limoncello is unnecessary and it's $20 a bottle where I live. For soaking the berries you can substitute 1/2-1C water & the zest of 1 lemon, it worked very well. Also if you have the time, I recommend making the curd from scratch as the prepared version had a slightly sugary texture but this was mitigated by adding the whipped cream.

I've made this on several occasions. My family and friends love it. A beautiful presentation and the fresh berries make this a luscious dessert. I highly recommend you take the time to make the curd and the cream. I tried to shortcut this with store bought curd and cream. They just didn't work.

Worth the effort

I had the same problem as others as far as the curd not thickening sufficiently. So after 5 minutes of stirring, and getting no where, I increased the heat to medium, medium/high and stirred for another 10 minutes - it thickened up quickly after that. Excellent recipe.

Very Good and Pretty - BUT

It did take some time to make, but is there any way to get an exact amount of lemon juice?? I cooked, and cooked and the curd never did get thick even after it cooled. Lemons vary in sizes, but I did make it with loose cream. Everyone love it, but it didn't look like the picture since the filling was too loose. Please put in exact measurement of lemon juice. I added our own homemade Limoncello.... tasted great. Thank you. I will try this again. Lyn

Great Spring or Summer Dessert

I love making this dessert in the spring or summer. Many people always ask about how I made it. The lemon curd can be a little tricky but, after making it several times you get use to it. Other than that, it really is a great combination of ingredients. If it were up to me " I could eat the whole trifle bowl". In fact this is the dessert that, I'll be making for a party on the weekend.

Excellent

If you are a lemon/berry lover like myself, this dessert will not disapoint! Great make ahead-it's better when it's had time to settle. Made Ina's lemon pound cake recipe for cake. Lemon curd was fantastic! Will definitely prepare again-especially when fresh berries are back in season!

This recipe was a big hit at our party. It was so simple and easy to make. The only thing I would change next time is use less whipped cream. I thought the whipped cream cut out the lemon curd too much...but it was still delicious!

I brought this dessert to our girls night get together and it was a huge hit. I bought the lemon curd to save time in making. This is a light, refreshing dessert. I used only fresh strawberries, but any berries would work. I plan to make this many more times for gatherings....yum!!!

I prepared this one for Easter brunch, and everyone enjoyed it. I chose to mascerate the berries, however, as the strawberries were too tart not to. Thought the lemon curd would be difficult, but it wasn't and was very delighted w/the outcome as were my family. The perfect dessert for spring or summer fete!

I would make this again but with a different curd recipe. I think I just had really juicy lemons... After stiring for 20 minutes my arm gave out but it seemed very thick. Anyway, It was too loose when I layered it, all those beautiful berries of the middle layer were covered after it set up. Big Bummer !! Also I love lemon but this was too much lemon flavor. Play it safe and use a curd recipe with actual amounts and you will have a great Trifle

Easter Hit

I made this for my families Easter get together and it was a stellar success. My husband had three helping and I had to cut him off so that the rest of the family could have dessert! My cousin's husband exclaimed, "Wow, this is really good." He had two helpings. Needless to say I had only a clean dish to take home!

Superb!

An excellent, elegant dessert. I made the mistake of making it a day ahead, and the lemon curd/whipped cream mixture got runny, but it was still incredibly delicious. I used plain Sara Lee pound cake and omitted the liqueur. Disregard the "6 servings" note - I served 10, and have plenty left over.

This was beautiful and so wonderfully delicious and decadent. My only complaint is that it took a lot longer to make than I expected. I hate to say it, but next time I would consider using a prepared lemon curd.

Made this for Christmas dessert, and wow, was it good! Would have gotten 5 stars, but it is definitely a dessert specifically for lemon lovers, as it is very tart. Since it's winter, I used frozen mixed berries, and used some of the juice from the berries mix w/ the liquer to flavor the cake. This makes a massive amount, in my opinion. Oh, and the curd really takes longer to get to the right consistency than the recipe states -- took me about 30 minutes of almost continuous stirring to complete the curd.

This trifle was very delicious and making the lemon curd was well worth the effort. I made this for Easter for my mother and I. I used Sara Lee pound cake and it turned out just fine. I brought some to work the next day and everyone loved it! Thanks Tyler! For another great trifle, check out Bobby Flay's "Gingerbread and Lemon Curd Trifle with Blackberry Sauce." But before you make this trifle, read my review. The recipe given is not how Bobby demonstrated it.

This is a great dessert. When layering with the lemon pound cake, instead of laying it down over the berries, try to also put it up against the side of the trifle bowl. This way, you can really see the pound cake layers. Definitly make sure to make this recipe in season! If not, the berries will cost you a fortune! The lemon curd comes out so good, and gives the whole trifle it's flavor. Great recipe - I made this for dessert on Easter!

Too Lemony

This was a time consuming recipe that I felt wasn't worth the effort. My guests enjoyed it, but my husband and I both thought it was too lemony. Also, the lemon curd didn't really set as much as it probably should have. It seemed runny when it was all said and done. I probably wouldn't make this recipe again, or just do a lemon pound cake with plain whipping cream and berries.

This has been a crowd favorite both times I have made this. My only issue is that my lemon curd does not thicken as it should. The recipe calls for whisking 10 minutes over the simmering water; but even after 20 minutes, it is not as thick as I think it should be. It is no where as thick as purchased lemon churd. I love the taste of the recipe curd. Any suggestions or ideas why it is not thickening?????

I've made this at least half a dozen times in the last two years with rave reviews each time! Because of dietary requirements, I substitute Splenda for sugar when making the lemon curd, low fat & low sugar pound cakes (and even angel food cake), as well as the Lite / low sugar Cool Whip . . . and no one can believe that most of the 'bad' stuff is gone ! I've made it with rasberries as well as blueberries, and several other fresh fruits. A big THANKS to the author on this one!

I always have homemade lemon curd on hand, so making this recipe was very easy. I added some fresh raspberries as they were at the farmer's market. Arrange the fruit to show through bowl for a more colorful presentation. A keeper for sure. Make the morning of your dinner party or even the day before.

A really delicious dessert, it has a clean taste almost like a sorbet, and very light after a meal. I used lemon curd which I make up to give to friends, and I used cool whip in place of cream - I think cool whip holds it's shape better than cream. I used a little watered down cointreau, in place of the other liquor.

We made this recipe using a store-bought angel food cake and prepared whipped topping to lighten it up and save some time. We did, however, make the lemon curd. As another reviewer said, it's very lemony and the dessert was plenty rich without pound cake! A double batch fits a large trifle bowl and would probably feed around 15 people. Excellent and refreshing.

They came together perfecly. I thought it was going to be hard to make and to my suprise, it was quite easy. You do have to put in some arm work on the curd.(it's worth it) Not only is this refreshing trifle beautiful to the eyes, It also cleanses the palat by not being too sweet or tart. It was definetly a huge hit. Thanks guys!
