Kisco, NY User Rating: I loved this recipe... not being a fan of lamb I decided to subsitute the lamb for pork tenderloin. I thought it was great. it taste and smells just like a gryo. awesome 06/01/2007 at 12:36pm User: amiee from WESTBURY, NY User Rating: awesome !! and easy to make just so-so for me, but my husband loved it 05/26/2007 at 09:18pm User: Sallie from Spanish Fork, UT User Rating: My husband loved this. He gave it four stars and would have given it five except that he says you can't give anything a five. I thought it was just okay. It was my first attepmt to make lamb. My kids didn't like it. For lack of a better word the meat tasted "farmy". I think less olive oil could be used for the garlic paste. Mine was more like a soup. And the cooking time could be adjusted. We cooked for 1 hr. and it was dry. It was also a little time consuming. The sauce was good. My husband doesn't like mint so I substitued green onion. At the suggestion of my mother I also used 1 c. sour cream, and 2 c. yogurt to make it thicker. The sauce was good. We also added red onion to the sandwiches. I'm glad I made the attempt, but I think I'll stick to restaurants. Tastes great and is relatively simple 05/06/2006 at 09:19pm User: Anonymous User Rating: I followed the recipe for the lamb exactly and it came out great - a little time-consuming, but is easy and almost fool-proof. The tzatziki sauce was just like a Greek restaurant and perfectly complimented the lamb. The only small change I made was using flat bread instead of pita bread. It's OK not bad.... 05/02/2007 at 09:49pm User: ELIZABETH from Lake Worth, FL User Rating: I was expecting something different. I think the tzatziki sauce is too runny but tasted good. The lamb is more of a roast instead of gyro meat. Gyro meat I thought was ground lamb that's seasoned and then put on a spit and cooked and sliced off. I don't know, it's just not what I expected. Fantastic! 04/30/2007 at 02:58pm User: Denise from columubs, OH User Rating: This was so incredible good. Tyler is excellent! Luncheon Gyro Success! 04/26/2006 at 09:09pm User: Gale from Valley Center, CA User Rating: This recipe was perfect for my first Gyro attempt for a luncheon of 20 people. I marinated & baked 2 roasts for a total of about 8lbs. of meat purchased. I had about 4 portions left-over meat. Everyone raved about the wonderful seasoning and authentic gyro flavors & the tenderness of the lamb. I served this with a big Greek Salad with lots of Feta & Greek Olives. Thanks for this fantastic help on my experimental Gyro adventure! Gale from Valley Center, Ca. A really good gyro 03/30/2006 at 02:51pm User: Julie from Houston, TX User Rating: 'Great flavor, perfect seasoning. My family really enjoyed this. It was restaurant quality. Basic Recipe 03/28/2007 at 10:12pm User: Anonymous User Rating: I deviated a lot, but it gave me a foundation to work off of... Great Flavors 03/13/2005 at 02:25pm User: Anonymous User Rating: I made this with the intention of having leftovers for lunch, but there was not enough left. It is very easy to make and very flavorful. I substituted garden spring greens for the lettuce and added organo to the sauce. I will never be able to eat the fast food gyros again. Not like the ones in a restaurant! 02/15/2006 at 11:00am User: REGINA from Va. Beach, VA User Rating: I made this recipe and it turned out well - although, I think I was anticipating the really thin slices of lamb that you get in a restaurant, it turned out well. I should have carved ALL of the fat away from the lamb because it took away from the ease of this meal. My family ended up taking away all of the fat before they would make the pita. The sauce was excellent as was the meat marinade. All in all, not a bad experience - maybe I just should have done a different style of meat. Delicious! 01/13/2007 at 10:44pm User: Anonymous User Rating: My family loved this lamb! I pan grilled flatbread pita that I bought at the greek place at the mall and I thought it made it better than regular pocket pita. Its a little messy while eating, but so worth it! |
