German? 10/27/2005 at 08:47pm User: Anonymous User Rating: I may not be qualified to rate this recipe for I did nothing more than scanning it through... But let me say this. I found this recipe under "Traditional German Recipe." Well, it looks more like Mexican, doesn't it? By the way, I am a member of German family who still resides in Germany. It was delicious - different from anything I have had in the past. She told me she got the recipe off foodtv.com - so I had to look it up! Kind of Dry 06/13/2004 at 03:45pm User: Anonymous User Rating: This recipe is kind of dry...maybe if there was a bit of olive oil added at the end, the flavors would stick more German?? NOT!! 04/22/2007 at 06:29pm User: Anonymous User Rating: This recipe might be tasty, but it is definitely NOT German. The only ingredient in the list I would use in a German Potato salad is bacon! Even the Potatoes are wrong, in Germany you find red potatoes only in "Gourmet" Stores and that only for the last few years. Cider vinegar is hard to be found. Red-Wine vinegar is more common and the broth has to be beef! The spices, chili pepper and cilantro are never used in an authentic German recipe, that doesn?t mean Germans don?t use these ingredients, the modern German kitchen incorporates many international foods, but in this case we are talking original German cuisine. This from a German cook with more than 3 years of German cooking school under her belt! I would be glad to submit a "real" German Potato salad recipe if asked. :) Heidi, Fort Wayne, IN You must like spicecumin 03/07/2005 at 10:17pm User: KELLY from sacto, CA User Rating: LOL, this would not let me submit original reply because of them main spice, gotta love the intenet. The main spice that starts w/ a C is a bit overpowering, reduce it and this is a great salad. Warm Potato Salad 01/16/2005 at 06:06pm User: SHEILA from Ft.Campbell, KY User Rating: For years I have been looking for an easy recipe for a really good Germand potato salad. After living there for several years and having a German mother-in-law I have tasted quite a few varieties. I decided to try this one with my schnitzel and I thought it was very delicious. It was very simple to make, the flavor was not overpowering and best of all, my kids loved it!. |
