Better than anything you can order out

Taking the time to make this recipe is so much better than anything you can get from take-out, at least in my area. I used brown sugar instead of white, although that is just a minor detail. Chicken was a nice addition to the recipe as well.

Could be better, if i had the recipe...

I wrote all the ingredients down on paper at work, and after buying all the stuff, and starting to prepare, I went over to my computer to read the recipe...but I had a case of blue screen, so I had to go by a makeshift recipe on the back of the box of noodles...it came out ok, but was lacking flavor..i'll print out the recipe next time and give it another shot...

can't believe you cooked it on tv !

If you would like to try real Pad Thai from Thailand. We only use a little fish sauce, palm sugar ( or white sugar ), disstrilled vinegar ( or tamarind concentrated juice ), oyster sauce, little chicken broth bar. In a Thai restaurant, they usually use paprika, little ketchup, oyster sauce, distrilled vinegar, palm sugar, MSG ( though they say they don't use it ), fish sauce, little soy sauce and off course.................... rice noodles ( soak in water before you cook it ), oil, chopped pink onion, eggs, seafood or meat, little water, bean sprout, green onion ( or flat chinese chives ), ground peanuts, dried shimps ( optional ), radish pickles ( daikon pickles ), diced deep fried tofu, LIME, and yes some DRIED CHILLIES.

I like this recipe. Nearly authentic, although not quite. Using dried shrimp and preserved radish would add a bit more flavor and texture to this dish.

Excellent Recipe

I tried this recipe about a week ago and it was great. My kids even loved it and they are very picky eaters.

almost perfect

This was a great and surprisingly easy recipe to follow. I'd definitely recommend making it in a wok for best results. I found that the taste was much better if you add some peanut butter (crunchy or creamy) in the last stage of cooking the noodles. Overall, very delicious!

Great camping food!

I made this for a horde of people out camping and it got rave reviews. I couldn't find tamarind juice so I used tamarind sauce mix and left out the shallots, also used extra-firm tofu instead of shrimp since there were a ton of vegetarians. I had never made pad thai before and this was fantastic...I have been ordered to keep this on the camping menu!

Good flavor and not too hard to make

I found this recipe fairly easy to make on my first try. And, I found the flavor to be excellent (and, dare i say that it was better than what I've had at Thai restaurants). I liked the red chile in the recipe and it gave the dish the right spiciness (just a hint of burn on the lips). I didn't find tamarind juice at the asian food mart. So, I used lemon juice as a substitute and it worked fine. I would just use lemon in the future. (I later found that one doesn't buy tamarind juice. Instead, one buys a paste and makes juice from the paste.) I will definitely make this recipe again.

Yummy, but beware

I used the chiles I had on hand - turned out to be Scotch bonnets, and wow, was this hot. But absolutely delicious and very, very easy to make.

This was tasty and easy to make. I did not use the fish sauce because I don't like the smell. The noodles were really tasty even w/o the fish sauce.

I substituted 3 tbsp of Pad Thai sauce for the tamarind juice and sugar, which worked out wonderfully.

Clarification Please

I started watching the show after it had started. But, I thought I heard Tyler say that you blanche the noodles for 30 SECONDS -- the recipe says 30 MINUTES. I have never used these noodles before, so I don't know which is correct. Can someone help me out? Thanks!

Lacked flavor

It was missing something. I guess the Thai restaurant in our area is better than we realized. Tyler's recipe didn't hold a candle to the Pad Thai that we're used to eating. I won't make this recipe again.

This was really yummy and insanely easy. There was a couple of items such as tamarind juice and the red chile that I didn't have on hand and it still rocked my tastebuds. It really hit the spot!

Excellent!

The first few times I tried to make pad thai, it never came out good- that is until I found Tyler's recipe. Now, each time, it comes out perfectly. The clean taste never ceases to amaze me and the cornacopia of textures (the peanuts, soft noodles, bean sprouts, etc) are an adventure! I usually marinate a package of tofu with garlic, soy sauce, and seasame oil, stir fry until brown and add that to the mix, along with an extra egg.

This recipe was fabulous, and so easy. I made it for my book club and everyone loved it! I used chile sauce instead of a red chile however. It's nice because it doesn't have a million ingredients but the flavor is still very full. Tofu would be good in it too.

good pad thai...soooo easy

hey there! tried this receipe when i had some girl friends for dinner...it so simple and easy to make! Plus it was very tasty! Just make sure you really submerge the noodles in water so that you do not have to stir fry it too much to cook.
