DE-vine Shrimp Pasta

User: Leslie from Marietta, GA    User Rating:
I made this on Christmas Eve -- very tired and 5 month pregnant. It was ridiculously easy and made me look like a genius. I made it simply because I wanted it -- not for company or anything and it was DEVINE! My husband said it was of "restaurant quality" and we both enjoyed this unexpected treat at our house! Thanks, Paula! Note: I did add the extra cheese and 16oz of pasta instead of 9oz. Also, I used medium sized shrimp but would use small shrimp next time -- just personal preference.

Excellent, Family loved it!

I only made a couple of changes to this recipe. I used more pasta, changed the plain crumbled feta to feta with sundried tomatoes and basil and doubled the amount. Also, I used a very pungent swiss. We had this for Christmas Eve with steamed King Crab Legs and it was an aboslute hit. Even the leftovers went quickly!

A dish you will make again

I made this using mango peach salsa(Salpica brand-medium)and large shrimp and it turned out great. The sweetness of the salsa paired great with the feta cheese. For those of you that had the dish turn out runny, perhaps the shrimp still had too much water on them after cleaning? Just a guess.

delicious

We absolutely loved this recipe and will definately make this again. The only changes were: I used more pasta than they called for; I used a can of Ro-Tel tomatoes on top with not quite all the liquid and I crumbled lump crabmeat in with the shrimp. I also found that not all the shrimp cooked through; therefore, will either cook the casserole longer or use pre-cooked shrimp.

I was a little worried to make this because some of the reviews weren't as positive as I would have liked, but my fiance and I thought this was a great dish. I actually halved the recipe, used skim milk and nonfat yogurt. I did not halve the seasonings and added a little salt, cayenne pepper, and black pepper to the egg mixture. The dish was a little watery at the bottom, could be from the skim milk, but it didn't influence the taste. I will definitely make this again and tweak it a little more.

User: STEPHANIE from erie, PA    User Rating:
I made this last night for dinner with a few modifications. It was the quickest one dish seafood meal I have ever made. My guests LOVED it, and asked to take the left overs home. Modifications made: I used fat free half and half; low fat yogurt; added pepper flakes on topping. I plan to make this recipe again soon. I also had left over sauce which I am using tonight with my musaka. I will let you know what my guests think of it.

I tried this recipe on a cold night when I didn't really feel like cooking, but I wanted to make something nice for my hard working hubby. I used a 16oz box of angel hair pasta, which made it a little drier. Next time, I'll make more sauce or use less pasta. And there's lots of leftovers!

As well as inspiration to try "tweaking" your recipes, to fit my families different tastes. You make cooking seem so simple,.... and even fun. Always yours, Marc Ross

Something Not Quite Right

This is the only Paula Deen recipe I have ever made that I did not love. I can't put my finger on it, it was just odd. There was a lot of water in the dish (possibly from the salsa) and in spite of the salsa and all of the different cheeses, it was on the bland side. I did not care for it, but my husband liked, not loved, it. Sorry Paula!

User: EILEEN from Homewood, IL    User Rating:
The first time I made this I thought it was a little bland, but my family loved it! The exciting thing for me was that when I ate the leftovers and couple of days later it was FANTASTIC! I found that if I prepare this dish a day or two before I really need it that the flavors blend much better and there are no leftovers. So it's a great make-ahead timesaver!

Tasty

Very good but appears to need more than 30 minutes in the oven. I suggest waiting until the casserole bubbles (as suggested) even if it takes considerably longer than 30 minutes. I took mine out after 40 minutes because I was afraid of overcooking the shrimp but it was watery and the bottom layer of shrimp could have used another 10 minutes. However, it was very tasty. I will make it again.

Disappointing
09/05/2006 at 02:23pm
User: HEATHER from Granada Hills, CA    User Rating:
I used tomatos w/ jalepenos instead of salsa (my house likes spicy, not mild), but in the end I just could not get used to the "mexican" flavor (salsa/tomatos) mixing with the "italian" flavor (cheeses, oregano). It also ended up watery, despite draining most of the tomato water. I wouldn't make this again, without changing it up and leaving OUT the tomato/salsa.

So different, yet delicious!!

I MADE THE RECIPE THE OTHER EVENING FOR MY HUSBAND, WHO LOVES BOTH SHRIMP AND PASTA. IT WAS EXCELLENT AND VERY EASY TO MAKE. I DID NOT MODIFY THE INGREDIENTS, ONLY THE AMOUNTS TO MAKE HALF THE RECIPE. I AM ANXIOUS TO SEE HOW LEFTOVERS TASTE. PROBABLY ONLY BETTER SINCE THE INGREDIENTS HAD TIME TO SOAK IN. TO MY SURPRISE, SALT AND PEPPER WERE NOT NEEDED. THE SALSA SEEMED TO TAKE CARE OF THIS. THIS RECIPE IS A KEEPER.

I tried this out on my family and it was a hit. I am making this for my Bunco group tomorrow. Modifications I have made (because it wasn't spicy enough): I seasoned the shrimp with Zatarans Creole Seasoning and I used Pepperjack cheese, instead of plain Monterey jack. You can make it ahead, which is perfect for company, but when making ahead, it needs to cook about 10-15 minutes longer.

I liked this recipe, but thought the salsa tasted a bit weird.(my husband loved it though) I added more cheese and pasta as others suggested and the consistancy was perfect. Used small shrimp, which worked fine. Needs salt added. One thing which was good is that it tasted better the 2nd day as left overs. I would skip the salsa next time, add red pepper flakes for zip and make extra cream sauce.

Great flavor, but something needs to be altered

User: Steve from Fort Walton Beach, FL    User Rating:
My girlfriend and I made this for dinner tonight. It was really easy, and it took no time at all to put the dish together and get it in the oven. We were very impressed with the flavor, but there was a lot of water in the bottom of the pan. In truth, we DID use a bit more shrimp, and the noodles were leftover, so they weren't as al dente as they could have been. However, a slotted spoon kept the majority of the water in the pan, and a nice loaf of crusty bread came in handy for the liquids that made it to the plate. We'll make it again, but we'll adjust some stuff to dry it out a bit.

This dish was excellent, especially if you're a pasta and seafood lover (like my husband and I are). And very easy to put together. Great for entertaining.

Makes a good supper!

I read the reviews before making this and added a can of RoTel tomatoes. It was great. A few friends stopped by and needless to say, there were no leftovers.

This dish was very easy to make and everyone loved it! It's a great dish to take to a gathering because it yeilds 10-12 servings. My only suggestion if you don't want to save some money is to buy 1 pound of shrimp and half them to make the 2 layers of shrimp!

Kudos to Paula

This was a very easy dish to prepare, and my family loved it! You could taste the herbs and spices. It took a little longer to cook, I used large shrimp, but it was worth the wait!

Good, but bland

This dish was extremely easy and convenient to make; however, I found the overall taste to be a bit bland. The only cheese I could taste was the feta. The swiss and jack were not noticeable.

If I make this again I am putting in hot salsa and more spices. It was kind of bland if you follow the recipe exactly. But it has tremendous potential to be an awesome spicy shrimp dish!

This dish is extremely tasty and quite easy to make. When I noticed "salsa" and "feta" amist the other ingredients, I just couldn't imagine the taste. My husband and I really liked this dish fresh out of the oven, but the next day reheated seemed to be even better! I'll definately make this one again!

Spicy Casserole not so much

This recipe was very easy to make and was tasty, however, I guess by the title I thought there would be some zing (spiciness) to it. There was none. Maybe my palette for spicy food is much higher than Paula's. I think the next time I make this dish I will make extra of the cream sauce and leave the salsa out. I though the cream sauce with the pasta and shrimp was the best part.

Great casserole for a cold winter night!

I really liked this dish, as did my family and our guest. I did add some spicy kielbasa and a pinch of red pepper flakes for a little more kick. The cornbread topping really added a lot to this dish. Will definitely make this again. Thanks, Paula!!!

The dish was very easy to make but it just didn't taste good. The recipe should specify small shrimp as they were very tough after cooking. We won't be making this again!

This recipe was absolutely delicious. It was easy to make and the family truly enjoyed the variety of flavors. The only change for me was I had to cook the dish for about 50 minutes because the shrimp were not fully cooked. This recipe is a winner! Everyone should try it. Thanks Paula!
