Best Bisuits Ever

My family can't believe that I made something from scratch and it tastes better than a restaurant! I only put the temp up to 450 and I start watching them like a hawk around the 12 min mark. Always come out perfect. I even used these in a quickie chicken bake- my picky husband LOVED it!

I've been making scratch biscuits for 30+ years. These were the lightest, fluffiest biscuits I've ever made. I attribute some of the magic to using White Lily flour, it's the best for biscuits here in the south, but the whipping cream made this so easy. Anyone can make biscuits, especially these!

There are better biscuit recipes...keep moving

User: Jen from Troy, MI    User Rating:
The temperature should be 450 degrees for this recipe. 500 degrees burns the outside, and doesn't cook the inside. I have a separate thermometer in my oven, and I have tested this theory with other ovens also. The recipe itself is great though! This is the best biscuit I have found for freezing them. Whereas buttermilk biscuits when frozen do not rise anymore in the oven, these biscuits do! To freeze, follow the recipe as directed until you get to the step of baking them. On the baking sheet, stick them in the freezer for a few hours. Then put them in all in a ziploc bag, date them, and put them back in the freezer. Just take as many out as needed, spray your cooking sheet and put directly into your pre-heated oven or toaster oven. Cook 8-12 minutes. Great if you only eat a few at a time!

Just like Grandma's and Papa's

Paula this recipe is just as great as my grandparents biscuits. The only diference is that they both never measured anything. Thanks so much for this great recipe...with measurements. I don't bother with rolling the dough out and cutting the biscuits, I just roll the dough into balls a little larger than golf balls, place them on my flat cast iron skillet (just like my grandparents)and then pat them down a bit. TOO GOOD...AND OH SO EASY!!!

This is a great recipe. I highly recommend cutting them the height she has. I used cookie cutters which didn't make them as thick. I think they would be better thicker. Also, it took ours about 15 minutes in the oven instead of ten.

User: ida from orlando, FL    User Rating:
We liked them. I added 1/2 t. baking powder and 1 t. salt with the self-rising flour and the rest of the ingredients. I lowered the temp. of the oven to 425., and baked for about 15 min. or until the tops were golden brown. I also portioned the biscuits into 6 huge ones, using the drop-dough method. I also noticed that if the flour is measured correctly, a very minimal amount of bench flour, if not any, should be used.

These are the best biscuits ever! I questioned the rather high oven temp as I burned them the first time. Emeril also has a recipe for cream biscuits and his oven temp was much lower so I went somewhere in between, around 450F, with perfect results every time. Oven temperature sure do vary!

User: LISA from Charlotte, NC    User Rating:
If I could give this six stars I would! I took the suggestion of another poster to use my food processor to make the dough, very fast and easy! Then as I was kneading the dough, I could feel by the texture that these were going to be good soft biscuits!! The only concern I had was that after 10 minutes of baking time, the bottoms were nice and golden brown, but the tops were still real pale. I might try basting the tops with a little melted butter during baking, next time. The flavor is excellent!!

I have never been able to make biscuits from scratch, that they didn't turn out hard as hockey pucks. With this easy to follow recipe with only 3 ingredients...making homemade biscuits is a sinch...If the recipe is followed the biscuits will be light and moist, and very flavorful. They seem to almost melt in your mouth. This recipe is very versitile that dry spices could be used in it as well as some different cheeses.

No rolling, no kneading, no panicky race against melting butter, and somehow I got biscuits. It's a miracle! Granted, these were not flaky or golden like traditional butter biscuits, but they were yummy enough for everyone at breakfast to eat at least two. They're practically instant and taste good, so I'd definitely make them again, especially if I'm short on time and energy.

I am now the family's official biscuit maker.

User: Cordelia from Indianapolis, IN    User Rating:
Each time my extended family meets for breakfast, I "have" to make the biscuits. I double the recipe so extras can be frozen and used for school bus breakfasts, etc. Did breakfast for a recuperating friend and all I had to supply was two indgredients - easy and quick. As with many recipes, had to adjust temp/time (450/7 min.) for my oven. Also works better for me if I add the cream a little at a time so dough isn't too wet/sticky. I use a tuna can (punched with holes) to make "Grand" size biscuits which I no longer buy.

I love these for breakfast, for dinner (substitute herbs for the sugar), and for fruit shortcake. I make them even easier by simply patting the dough into a greased 8" square pan and baking for about 15 minutes. Cut into 9 squares and serve them right out of the pan.

I gave this recipe a try and the first time out the result was the BEST biscuits I have ever made. This is a great recipe for the beginner or an advanced cook. The biscuits are great for everyday home cooking or can be dressed up for a fancy meal. Absolutely WONDERFUL!!!! The only thing I had to do was look up how to make self rising flour as the recipe didn't explain that. Even so it was definitely worth the extra 30 seconds to look that up online. Thanks so much!

It's already an easy recipe, but I make it easier by mixing the ingredients in a food processor. Blend the flour and sugar for a second or two and then with the processor on, add the cream slowly and processes until it comes together in a ball making sure not to over mix. I like to cook mine half way, slice open and add a slice of cheddar cheese. Put back in the oven and finish baking. You can also bake these half way, take out and cool and bag them in freezer bags. Finish baking at original temperature. YUM! YUM!

Really, I have just not found anything that Paula Deen make to turn out bad. These biscuits are light and flaky - wonderful. Be sure not to overwork the dough tho - they can become dense. I love Paula!! ~ A NY Yankee who wishes she was a Southerner

these biscuits are soooooo great! Love it...love it! It was easy to make and I can't believe how wonderful it turned out. My boys (4 & 7 years old) helped me make these, they're so proud of themselves because they baked something that was so good. I know that this is something that I will make time and time again. I found the biscuits I will use for my strawberry shortcake when strawberry season comes. I recommend everybody to try these...You'll never regret it.

I was excited to try this recipe because it looked easy to make. The ingredients were easy to put together but the dough was hard to roll because it was sticky..I had to add more flour than I wanted to while rolling it, just so that I could even roll it without sticking to my rolling pin..It surprisingly turned out good and really tasty! Next time I think I'll add more flour than the recipe calls for before I attempt to roll..

Easy and delicious biscuits.

Paula ia a Joy to watch, and she helps with my confidence on trying new recipes. For 20 years I have been trying to make biscuits that taste as good my husband's mother and my father used to make. I say I finally found it.

Amazing!!

I have been on a biscuit quest and have not been successful until now! This recipe makes the best biscuits I have ever eaten and certainly the best I have ever made. I have one suggestion--I melted 1/4 c butter in an iron skillit and placed my biscuits in the hot skillit and baked them as directed. It made a wonderful crust on the bottom and top while the sides were soft.

EASY & YUMMY

Three ingredents make for wonderful results! Keep an eye on them...high oven temp could lead to excessive browning.

This is a very easy and great tasting biscuit. It is a recipe that I have made many times over and shared many times over. If you do not purchase self-rising flour, simply add 1 Tablespoon of baking powder and 1 teaspoon of salt to your 2 cups of flour and go on with the recipe. Thank you Paula for sharing this recipe.

These biscuits are absolutely wonderful. They are light and fluffy. Very simple to make-can't get any easier than this. I will always make these at dinner rather than buying canned ones. Note though that I did cook them at a temp. of 450 and worked out great. Also I put a little extra sugar. Also good in the morning with jam. Don't be afraid to try these--simple and delicious

Paula, It took me years to learn how to make wonderful biscuits. My husband and family ate a lot of hockey pucks before I got it. I have made these several times and I can't believe how easy and terrific these are. Where were you when I was a young cook? Thanks so much, Mary Streets
