Grand Marnier makes everything better!

User: Peggy from Genside, PA    User Rating:
This cake was much better than I expected (partially due to brushing the warm cake with Grand Marnier liqueur!) Sliced thin wedges topped with fresh berries and a dab of citrus Mascarpone- recipe from Tastes of Italy magazine. Absolutely the perfect summer dessert.

User: Sharon from Marriottsville, MD    User Rating:
The same thing that happened to Michele from San Diego happened to me. After baking for 35 minutes, the cake was still moist in the middle so I cooked it a few minutes longer. The top was done and had, in fact, cracked. So I took it out of the oven and let it cool. When I took it out of the pan, I found that the middle was raw. I took a taste of the outer part which was cooked and it was okay, but not great. So it went in the trash can.

undercooked and gooey!

User: MICHELE from San Diego, CA    User Rating:
I consider myself a very good home baker and I use a lot of Giada's recipes with good success.. but this one -- at least for me-- turned out badly! I cooked it 10 minutes LONGER than she indicated as the middle (when tested w/ toothpick) kept coming out moist. I remembered other reviewers saying the results were "brownie-like" and I also know that many brownies are a bit "wet" in the middle when you first take them out of oven... so I finally took the cake out. After resting it in the pan and then on cooling rack, my "cake" deflated to about 1" thick. Then I waited until it was fully cooled to cut into it and it was almost raw in the center. I re-looked at all my steps and ingredients added and could not find any faults and my oven is calibrated correctly. So the worse part is I don't know what went wrong... but I do know I won't try this one again.

Absolutely wonderful!

I made this wonderful cake for out New Years Eve celebration, it was perfect! Very easy to make and so different from most desserts. It was WELL worth the wild goose chase that was looking for the amaretti cookies in my tiny Georgia town!! I will make this often!

What happened to the mini version recipe??

User: Karen from Frisco, TX    User Rating:
I made the Mini Chocolate Amaretti Cakes recipe on this website. It is identical to this one but you make it in mini muffin tins. great flavor but I would use mini paper cups because they didn't come out of the tins very easily. Also, the muffin cups should only be filled about 2/3 full or the puff up and look like toad stools!

I am a big fan of chocolate desserts. However, I was a little dissapointed in this one. I think that the flavor of the orange was a little overpowering and I didn't really like the texture of the cake. It reminded me a lot of a brownie.

The recipe is super easy to follow. I forgot about needing orange zest so I made mine without but it still turned out wonderful. The second day the cake was even better...almost like a glorified brownie but everynow and then there was a surprise taste of the amaretti cookies. I wasn't particularly fond of the bitter cocoa sprinkled on top but otherwise LOVED the cake. I had mine dipped in coffee and it was perfect!

I decided to try this recipe for the first time for dessert for the family and everyone loved it. I served it with some whipped cream on the side and it was a great compliment to the cake. It's more like a really good brownie and it's not too sweet which was why everyone loved it. The orange zest does wonders for this recipe. It's very subtle but tasty. I will make it again.

This cake is not only a pleasure to eat, but a pleasure to make as well! The taste and texture are wonderful: chocolate and orange are a winning combination. To those concerned with the "almond flavor": make sure you use good quality amaretti from Italy. Mine never over-powered the delicious flavors, and I've made this cake many times. Giada always gives us winners. Grazie, Giada!

I loved it...and I think my "adjustments" (forgive me Giada!) made it even better. I didn't have any almonds, so I substituted pistachios...and I dusted the top with cocoa AND powdered sugar. Great morning-with-coffee-or-tea treat as well as an elegant desert.

I made this for Christmas Eve dinner and loved it. It's fudgy and the amaretti cookies add a wonderful flavor and texture (I recommend you try an actual cookie before making the cake to make sure you like the flavor). However, the orange flavor is very strong...almost overwhelming. And, like others, I had to bake it for an extra ten minutes. But altogether it's very good and so easy to make.

I made this cake for Christmas and everyone loved it! I'm not a baker but this was a very easy preparation. The orange flavor was wonderful and the cake was fudgey, though I had to bake it an additional 10 minutes (I think my oven is off). As suggested by another reviewer, I drizzled some melted Nutella over the top which hardens as it cools. I tend to think that those who didn't like the flavor of the amaretti are not familiar with amaretti. Will definitely make this cake again. Hats off to Giada! Diane Northport, NY

This was an okay recipe. I am big chocolate fan and it had interesting flavors with the orange and amaretti cookies and it was very easy to make, but the end product was not as exciting as I had hoped. The flavor was not as intense and it was a little bit boring, perhaps not quite sweet enough. The texture was nice though--my friend commented that it was "creamy" inside. Okay, but not rave reviews from my friends who came over. I've made better cakes. Surprising, because usually I love Giada's recipes.

the first time i tried this cake, it fell apart. i read another reader's tip and ended up crumbling it over ice cream. the second time i baked the cake, i sprayed, sprayed and resprayed the cake pan before refrigerating it like giada recommends. when i took the cake pan out of the fridge, i sprinkled it with a little flour. that time, the cake didn't fall apart; it was beautiful. the flavor was great both times -- the amaretti is an unexpected, pleasant surprise.

I thought this cake was delicious, mainly b/c of the added orange zest. I recommend using a large food processor, which will make this a lot easier (I only had a mini and it took a very long time to combine the ingredients). Also, I used biscotti since I could not find the cookies called for. Still turned out very well and everyone that tried the cake really enjoyed it.

I couldn't find any amaretti cookies so I found a recipe online and made my own. Now I have a new favorite cookie. My cake only seemed like a brownie on the outside but the inside was very light and cakelike. I only used about 1 tsp of orange zest and it seemed to be just right. I prefer the hint of orange, I think more would have been too much for my taste. Unfortunately, the cake fell apart on the flip when putting on a plate. I probably should have just left it upside down. Was going to bring it into work but it looks like I dropped it. lol.

I'm not much of a baker; but, this sounded so simple and tasty I had to try it. I've made it three time and each one was better that the time before. The hardest part is getting it out of the spring form pan. (You need a good one). When I finally saw Giada make it on the show, it look like she turned it upside down to serve it. That makes sense. The top develops cracks when it bakes...still tastes great.
