In the episode Giada says you could put it under the broiler if you dont have the brule' torch...it makes the strawberries mushy. When we bought the torch it was worlds better. We also combined the two recipes in this episode. Had same bread but instead of butter put Nutella. It was so good like Creme Brule' crust but with a whole lot more flavor underneath

I made this for breakfast for my grandson & he loved it! As did I, of course. ;o) I used stale french bread, sliced the strawberries really thin & used lots of sugar.

I have been making this same recipe using bananas for over 20 years, using the butter, banana slices, sugar and sprinkle with cinnamon and the oven broiler! I used pistolettes (small french breads) cut in half for the bread when I don't have regular french bread. Strawberries are also yummy!

Made these tonight but for some reason I couldn't get the sugar to carmelize using my husbands propane torch. The sugar just ended up very liquid. What am I doing wrong? I kept trying but the strawberries were starting to burn a bit on the edges. Have tried Giada's other recipes with much success but guess I need some pointers for this technique.

It was so quick and neat to make. The kids gobbled it up as soon as it came out of the oven. In fact, they were trying to negotiate for more. This has become a family success when considering we all have such different tastes.

Reading the recipe I wasn't sure how it might taste, but after I made it for the family one evening I can honestly say this is fantastic! Who knew bread and strawberries could taste out of this world!

I tried this recipe with high hopes (I LOVE strawberries and crusty bread and the combination sounded devine). I tried the broiler (don't have a blow torch), but the strawberries just tasted warm and mushy, I ended up throwing some of it out.
Nice alternative to strawberry shortcake

I never thought to make a sweet Bruschetta until I saw this episode. It was quick and easy and very good. I also tried it with blackberries. I'm hooked.
