Easy and quick. I filleted the flank steak to make it thinner, and since we love garlic I added more. The tomato sauce was home made. Will easily do this again!

Even an Italian loved it!

I made this for the first time for my husband, who is Italian, and his father. They both loved it. It brought back memories for my father-in-law who's mother made it with hard boiled eggs in with the stuffing. I thought it was good, tasted like meatballs. Comfort food.

I did this in several individual rolls instead of one big one, I was able to pull off the meal a lot faster/simpler since it was a meal for two. I used smaller steaks, used toothpicks for them to hold their shape while I browned them. I also added chopped onion to the pan. I skipped the wine, transferred everything over to a baking dish with the marinara sauce and added about a cup of chicken stock. During the last 15 minutes in the oven, I sprinkled shredded mozarella cheese on each roll. I made a simple side dish of wilted spinach with garlic and diced tomatoes and the meal was perfect. I would love to try this for a dinner party.

I made this for my wife on X-mas day and it was fantastic! Full of flavor and very tender. I used store-bought sauce instead of making it myself. Next time I try this I will try to get a thinner cut of flank steak to make rolling and tying a bit easier.

this was easy to make and delicious. i cooked it a bit longer but since you are braising it, longer is better. this also reheats nicely. i made it with her marinara sauce but left it chunky and did not blend part of it up. if anyone is a celiac, this recipe converts to gluten free easily and the moisture/olive oil keeps the stuffing moist and flavorful.

I have been looking for a recipe that was close to my mother's and this is dead on. The only difference is that my mother used to make small, individual rolls. The filling tastes identical. Make sure you tie it up tightly on the ends because I had some filling slip out into the sauce.

This braciole was absolutely FABULOUS! I made it, along with the tomato sauce, and was very pleased with the flavor! I used a London Broil, that I sliced longways and pounded thin. I cooked it, as per the directions, the day before and reheated it, covered, for about 4 hours at 200* the next day. My mother-in-law, who is 100% Italian, raved about it....however she did tell me...MANY times during dinner, that it's not really Italian because there were no hard boiled eggs in it. I wouldn't change a thing...it was really delicious!

Christmas Dinner Switch-up

I made this recipe for christmas dinner, instead of the precursory ham or turkey. My family being the traditionalists they are gave me the puzzled look when they were told we were having braciole. We are not italian. It was Superb!!! Everyone loved it. I was able to make the stuffing and sauce ahead of time, I left the celery out, And the sauce did not suffer. Delicious resluts. I stuffed and rolled and tied the steaks( I made two to serve 10) the day before. I then browned them and added the sauce Christmas morning. Baked them at a slightly lower temp 325. I would definitly make this again. i used a sharp provolone in the stuffing, Very tasty. Thanks Gia for another easy and delicious recipe.

This was so awesome!!! It was so easy to make. Took no time at all. I used a top round steak because I couldn't find flank steak. I flattened it a bit. Just be careful if you do it this way. The meat had small tears where the fatty parts were. It was still fabulous. I used chicken broth to deglaze the pan because I am not a fan of anything with wine. I also used a jar of sauce just because I had no time to make it. I can't wait to make it again. Next time I have to make two so I can have some leftovers. My ultra picky husband ate the whole thing.

We all loved this dish. Glad I watched Giada prepare it, didn't feel so inept when some of my stuffing fell out while rolling the meat. Used flank and pounded it like the reviewers suggested. Used a prepared sauce which was delicious as well. The flank steak was just a little tougher than I care for, may try another cut next time or cook a bit longer. But I've put this in my keeper file. Excellent flavor.

This was a good recipe and easy if you use store-bought marinara (I like Newman's with a few cloves of garlic added). However, my stuffing fell out and my meat wasn't tender. I read some other recipes that said to pound the flank steak out to a 1/4", which would solve both problems. Very good!

I've made this twice for dinner with friends, and they're always so impressed with my culinery genius. Little do they know, this is actually extremely easy to make (I'll never tell). The only thing I'd say to cooks trying this recipe for the first time is, read the whole recipe through before you begin, and to be sure to allow enough time for this to cook. Once it's in the oven, though, sautee up some rosemary potatoes & toss a salad for a full on delicious meal!

Thank you, Giada, for this great recipe. It won rave reviews at my house - we will be making this again and again in the future. The meat was very tender and bursting with flavor. Only thing I did differently was add pignolis and prosciutto to the braciole stuffing. I didn't puree the sauce - I like the rustic version with chunks of vegetables. (Make sure to pound the flank steak about 1/4" thin or you will have a devil of a time trying to roll it.)

At first, I thought it'd be a bit difficult to make even though it seemed so easy when Giada made it. However, to my amazement, there's nothing hard about making this recipe at all. The only tiny exception was that I had my boyfriend help me to tie up the roll as I held on to it tightly to prevent too much of the stuffing from falling out. I used store-bought spaghetti sauce and placed thinly sliced porciutto-di-parma on top of the flank steak (I reduced the salt in the stuffing mix since porciutto can be salty) before I put the stuffing on the meat. Also, I used red instead of white wine and basil instead of parsley as those were what I had available at home. Meat was very tender and tasty. I made Rachel Ray's "Green Beans and Portobello Mushrooms Saute" (which can also be found on the website) as a side dish and both dishes went very well together!

I love watching Giada cook- she's so passionate about her dishes. This one is so unbelievably amazing.. I made this for Christmas dinner for my husbands family and we all savored every bite.. Wonderful ingredients and very easy to prepare. I used a prepared marinara this time and it was excellent, but I'm looking forward to making Giada's sauce next time. But either way- the marinara takes on an incredible flavor when it marries with the meat, stuffing and wine in the oven. I had about 2-3 servings of sauce left over that I saved for pasta sauce. I can't wait to make it again... It blends perfectly with Giada's "Holiday Salad" from the same episode.

I made this recipe recently for my wifes Italian family. One family memeber labeled the sauce as "restaurant grade", which made my day. Some interesting points come to mind for this recipe. First, the sauce went from a deep red to an orange color after processing it in the blender. This was most certainly from the carrots in the recipe, which I have never used before in my marinara. Also, make certain to re-season the sauce at the end just as the recipe says. Secondly, the sauce seemd to lack something when I tasted it the next day just before preparing the Braciole but I went ahead anyway. NOW FOR THE AMAGING PART. The sauce took on a totally different taste and texture after cooking the meat in it for about two hours. While enjoying this dish I kept trying to figure out what had caused the delightful transformation and then it dawned on me. The combination of the cheeses and flavor that escaped from the meat, as well as the wine used for deglazing had transformed the sauce from a simple marinara to a complex sauce worthy of serving at a fine Italian restaurant.

I am interested in trying smaller rolls as well.

Giada's recipes are just the best! This one is no exception. It was so easy to prepare that I honestly was not expecting it to be so good. I had my in-laws over for dinner and everyone just loved it. I thought the flank steak was the perfect cut of meat. Because it was cooked so long, I found it extremely tender. It didn't melt in your mouth and that helped to give the dish a heartier texture. I am already planning my next dinner party so I can make this dish and impress everyone!

I found the recipe easy to follow and the results were phenominal. The only thing that would have made this better, earning 5 stars, is pounding out the flank steak first before adding the seasonings, cheeses and breadcrumbs. My steak was relatively thick and once the stuffing was inside and it was tied up, it looked more like a taco than a jellyroll. Still, it tasted wonderful and my family appreciated it. I will being using this for our Christmas dinner.

The cut of meat that was selected surprised me. The more I had of it the more I liked it. I guess I am for a more tender meat type of person. The seasonings are fantastic and the meat even though a tough cut tenderized pretty nice. Just don't forget the tooh pics. :) A nice meal

You left out the main ingredient in the recipe you posted, the flank steak. What size flank steak should be used? A friend of mine use to make a similar dish which she called Braciole. She wrapped thin slices of meat around boild eggs and baked them in marinara sauce.

I'm not a big fan of store bought marinara sauce but I was short on time/energy to make my own. I used store bought sauce and it was still great! Goes very well with the brocolli rabe recipe from this episode too. I've never made either and both came out excellent.

Why someone would rate this 5stars then go on to tell how they totally re-vamped it is strange. I made it right with Giada (big fan) but this was the least flavorful entree' I've made with her. Add pine nuts, a hint more garlic or shreaded onion, and maybe some raisins.

I decided to improvise and it turned out fantastic. I had procuitto in the house so I laid a couple slices over the meat and then put the filling on top which I added a box of frozen spinach along with the parsely and I must say the added flavors of the procuitto and spinach was unbelievable. My family could not stop eating, and none was leftover!

Following another's advice, I pounded the flank steak really well prior to stuffing and filling. I used Parmesan cheese instead of Romano, as it's our preference. I even added 1/2 cup of leftover sauted garlicky spinach to the filling mixture. I ended up baking it for longer than called for as it wasn't fork-tender when I checked at 1 1/2 hours (but it was a 2 1/4 lb. piece of meat and not the 1 1/2 lb. that Giada worked with). A total of 2 1/4 hours were needed, but the last half hour the oven temp. was turned down to 200? as I had to hold it for a bit as hubby was a little late coming home for dinner. That extra time at the low temp. seemed to do the trick! He said, "Whoever this lady is, you should check out the rest of her recipes! This is delicious!" I plan to! :-)

I've made Giada's Braciole and Simple Sauce for some Big foodies and the reviews were stellar!! I added toasted pine nuts and fresh basil for extra texture and flavor--very nice additions. I recommend buying the flank steak at Costco because they come two in a package and they are a Choice cut of meat--Supermarkets typically sell Select(not as tender or flavorful)for the same price. Serve with an Old Vine Zinfandel and you can't go wrong--trust me.

but I added italian ham and had to cook the meat for an hour longer. I'm a little surprised the timing was so off. I pounded the steak before hand too. Next time I would try, hate to say it, chuck steak. The sauce was really good and we enjoyed it none the less. I served it with a baby romaine salad w/ crostinis and a garlic vinagrette. Still a recipe I will definately do again, just with some modifications. Could be me but I am not a novice.

A nice change from what most Americans consider typical Italian-American fare. We pounded beef to make tender, used jarred sauce to save some time and effort, and we didn't have an ovenproof pan so after we added the sauce we just transferred it all to a pyrex baking pan. Those were the only changes we made and we thought it was wonderful!

I have been looking for a good Braciole recipe that was similar to my grandmothers for years. This comes the closest. My grandmother would put an egg (still in the shell) in the middle of the meat before rolling it. When the meat was done, the egg would be hard-boiled. I never understood the significance of it, but all the children would fight over the egg!

I cooked on high for over an hour and then turned it onto low. I had to shut it off completly after a few hours as it began to fall apart. Next time I make this, and there will be a next time, I'll just cook on low for about 4 hours. Didn't take long to put together and the results tasted like it did. My whole family enjoyed this.

I give this a four out of five stars because I was a little unhappy with the choice of meat cut. The flank steak that I got still seemed a bit tough even after the 1 1/2 hours in the oven while basting with the sauce. However, the leftover meat was better the next day. Perhaps making it in advance would be helpful. Anyway, the sauce is excellent! I will be making it many, many more times. I think it has become my new favorite sauce. Just beautiful. Thanks!
