I created a shaker full of the seasoning mix and use it on all my burgers. I tried the rolling thing, but that was way too much work. I just season the meat and form by hand. Reaaly good and realy easy.

The way you incorporate the seasoning makes them incredibly tasty. We often make these on 'game nights' as finger food. They're great on english muffins or slices of baguette. Best of all they are small so they are easy to manage and allow you better control of how much you're eating.

This was so easy and such a good idea to fold the meat in half. You get flavor with every bite. We made traditional "sliders" for the men, and gourmet turkey burgers (cheeses and "stuff") for the women at our labor day part! Great, great idea.. !!! Kids liked them too!

Works great for Grilling burgers too.

coming from california, we don't have these mini burgers here for purchase. but two of my coworkers from missouri can't stop talking about them, so i found this recipe here and waited to see alton's episode of it. the idea to put the flavorings in between the patties is excellent. most people here seemed to use grilled onions. i on the other hand used chopped dried onions in substitute of onion powder, which was really nice because the ground beef juices reconstituted the onions, giving it a grilled taste. thanks Alton! Brilliant!

They tasted like the regular burgers I make, except they were so small, I tasted the bun more than anything. Also, the rolling out was hard to do and I think if I ever made this again, I would just hand form them.

Cook these on a bed of sauteed onions. May take another minute per side cooking thru the onions. Carefully flip over, but when you're ready to bun and plate, slide the spatula under the onions and include them on the bun. White Castle wishes they made these.

Great Burger (additions optional but tasty)
06/10/2004 at 02:14pm
User: PAUL from Fargo, ND    User Rating:
Great little burger. The seasoning that goes between the meat slabs is definitely the key. I made a couple of additions that my wife and I really enjoyed. First, I carmelized some chopped onions in a separate pan while the burgers cooked. Second, I added a thin slice of cheese the last minute or so of cooking and allowed it to melt. Finally, when the burgers were ready I added a small amount of the onions and a couple of pickle slices. These additions imitated a certain "steam grilled" burger but tasted much, much better.

They are fun to make for the whole family. My teenaged girl actually asks for these "gut grenades". Tricky part is finding the right bun/roll. Once I bought some dinner rolls that were a little too doughy, masking much of the taste of the burger. Potato rolls work pretty well.

User: Jay from Mt Pleasant, SC    User Rating:
I've done this four or five times now and I love it. But, man, the beef gets so thin when rolled out - had it tear apart more than once. The last time, I altered things a bit. Went with double the beef and seasoning and combined it all in a mixing bowl. I rolled it out as usual, but this time didn't fold in half (since I'd already added the spices, and it was twice as thick). Just as good, I think. Went with a loaf of 'soft' french bread for the "buns" this time; like a baguette but not as crusty. Cut on the dias - it looks cool! Also, I had been doing this in cast iron. I just a huge electric skillet, so I got cook it almost like on the show this time. A big hit with my guests!

User: Anonymous    User Rating:
Alton always comes up with the most creative ideas! I live in Michigan so I've had my share of true "White Castle" burgers, but this recipe is so good I don't have to bother sitting in the drive thru!! To those reviewers who worried about the buns getting soggy, that's part of the charm of the real deal. Around here, people call them "sliders" and they are perceived to be really greasy, but it's the slightly soggy bun that makes them slide down, not grease.

Gotta love the men and their food!

Cooked these up with me and my son having the entire home to ourselves. This is incredibly easy and very darn tasty. (My wife being a health nut, we only had ground turkey but it cooked just as well). Perhaps using the ground turkey, I should have upped the seasoning. Next time, I may prep the meat (mixed with seasonings, worchester and onions as though I was doing normal hamburgers) then spread it and fold it and see if I can get the seasoning to go further. Highly recommended! (The 3 year old kid had 2 with just crumbs left behind).

Very simple, yet deliciously tasty burgers. I recommend cutting the ingredients in half and using 1/4 tsp instead of 1/2tsp. I used the latter amount for 1.5 lbs. of ground round and it was a little strong. Very solid recipe. I will use this seasoning to flavor all forms of hamburgers in the future.

My family loved this recipe, it reminded them of one of our favorite places, "White Castle". I could't find the potatoe rolls, but used square dinner rolls, added a squirt of mustard and added hamburger pickles. Perfect!

Not bad

Good recipe for a simple burger than can easily be cooked indoors. Nothing terribly special, but the method of getting the seasonings in the middle of the burger where they won't burn or fall off was very clever. I spread some Worcestershire sauce around the meat before I laid down the seasonings. Although it soaked into the meat and made handling the raw burgers difficult, the flavor was really able to shine through. I might experiment with other seasonings -- the neat thing about this recipe is you're not limited to seasonings that don't burn because they're all "inside."

AWESOME BURGERS !!!

I made these for dinner and MAN were they good. I think if I could have managed, I would have put some cheese between the layers. I put the spices in an old salt shaker and sprinkled it over the meat for an even distribution. Since I don't have a griddle, I just used a big frying pan. They were so easy to manage and eat. I didn't have to cut them in 1/2 like I do a regular sized burger. Great job AB, thumbs UP !!

These were great

"I don't think I'd ever eat regular hamburgers again" said my significant other. These were delicious! Is it the simplicity of the spice? the choice of meat? These are good eats that is for sure!

I just made these for the big game and I have to say as a burger connoisseur, these will cause me to make my own burgers at home more often. I am surprised by those who found them to be "nothing special." The simplicity of the dish only helped to let the beef flavor shine. Exercising good technique further enhances the burgers. I used high heat on an iron griddle which formed a great crust. I also toasted the potato rolls on which the burgers were served. Yum!!!

Delicious

I made about 40 of these for a finger food/game night party- so easy to make (skipped the fancy prep and just mixed everything with a spoon and formed by hand), and boy were they popular! Used finely chopped onions instead of onion powder, small potato rolls, and slices of swiss (and american) cheese, with no mayo. Stuck decorative toothpicks in them and had bowls of ketchup, mustard and bbq sauce for dipping. Next time, I'd like to try this recipe with ground turkey for a healthier alternative.

i made this for my fiance and his buddies... whom all say that it was good, but i didn't care for it. i was actually embarrassed that i didn't test this before serving it to guests. it's JUST ok. if you ask me it needs WAY more flavor. i would make it again but use some of the meatball recipe ingredients from the baked ziti recipe on food network to add some zing!

Wonderful

Served these and Alton's corndogs at a party. Everyone (kids and adults) kept asking for more and for the recipe to make them. I had to get more hamburger and hotdogs to keep up with the demand. Quite a suprise since I had originally just made them for the kids that were comming.

Wow what a burger!!
