I made this cake for my daughter's 9th birthday. The entire family loved it! The directions say that it is of medium difficulty but I found it to be very easy, and I will definitely make this cake again and again.

This cake was great. It is an easy dessert to make ahead of time. I used square cake pans instead of the round ones. Everyone loved it!

How can every single Semi- dessert be the best ever??
02/26/2006 at 02:46pm
User: Anonymous    User Rating:
This was a lot of work and the taste wasn't that great. The cake was kind of tasteless compared to the ice cream (we used French Vanilla). I think the ice cream stores must use a more strongly flavored cake mix because theirs definitely taste better than this. They don't cost much more so I'm just going to buy one next time.

I made this for my husband for Valentine's, and he absolutely loved it, he said that it tastes like it is from a really good restaurant. This cake does take time to make, but it's absolutely worth the effort.

Although it might have taken a little while, it was well worth it! It was delicous and so much fresher tasting than pre-made ice cream cakes. So what if it was a little lopsided...it still tasted scrumptious!

great to eat!

This cake was devoured by my family!! Mine didn't crumble much and the pieces held their shape. But if it had, it would have been okay with my family, because it would have still been cake and ice cream to them.

Difficult and time-consuming

It's easy too. All do is make the ganache and put it on the cakes and follow the directions for cooling, then put the ice cream between the layers. It takes some time....freezing time...but other than that it's super easy. Great result!!!!

I loved this cake

This was the best cake. I made it for my birthday and it was a big hit with all of my guests. The chocolate ganache was smooth and perfect; not heavy like store bought frosting. I made it with milk chocolate morsals and it was soooo good. My family has decided this is the cake to make for each birthday.

User: Phyllis from Matawan, NJ    User Rating:
It was a hit but definetly not for a novice. I substituted "cookie dough" ice cream rather than "coookies and cream," and substituted marble cake mix as not everyone in my family is a chocolate addict!

Thanks for a great dessert recipe!

Harder than it has to be
01/15/2006 at 05:15pm
User: Anonymous    User Rating:
This is simply cake and ice cream, only made harder than it has to be. Why put the ice cream in the middle, you the have to keep the entire cake refrigerated/frozen constantly to keep it from running all over, this is not something you can set out on your table. This is not a recipe, it is a serving suggestion.

Semi Retarded

User: Michelle from Orlando, FL    User Rating:
I don't understand why "Chef" Lee did not use the same ganache for this cake, to properly make the truffles earlier in this episode. After all, that's what truffles are made from. So in the same episode, she ditches the real truffle ingredients in favor of canned barf, and saves the real stuff to top off a puke-a-licious box cake. It is utterly nonsensical.

yummy

Tasted fine but was VERY hard to make

The recipe seems simple enough until you try to actually make it. It's not easy. Plus it looked terrible, as I found it impossible to make it come out symmetrical. Looked like the leaning tower of ice cream cake. But it tasted ok.

Just delish!

Will be making this again and again. The family loved it. It takes a little time waiting for things to set up in the freezer, but you can go out and shop while your doing that! This couldn't be easier.

Just OK

This cake looks difficult, but it was fun and easy to make. It set up so nicely and cut very will with a hot clean knife. The family and friends all want this one for their "birthday cake" instead of the traditional birthday cake. It even come with icecream so very easy to please everyone. Thanks Sandra I got this recipe from your book. I love you quick ideas for cooking. I cook alot and sometimes it's easier just to do it semi-homemade.
