Could be a cold weather tradition!!

User: DANIEL from Tarpon Springs, FL    User Rating:
Ok, it's January, it's cold, and you want to make something warm and hearty. Take this recipe and add a big pot of hearty beef chili. Now that will warm you all the way to your toes!! This is a pretty easy recipe, not to difficult and the results are great!! Add this bread to a stew or chili and now you have a winning combo. I did find that the quantities are a little small for an 8" pan, I will use a 6" or a small cast iron skillet next time. The biscuit mix for a base really saves time. Thanks Paula, for a great great recipe.

... including the one-year-old! Tastes like it was complicated, but couldn't be easier. I didn't have any chives or fresh parsley, but dried parsley worked just fine. I will make sure I have fresh chives next time, though. Paula does it again! Next time I make chicken soup, this recipe's also on the menu!

User: Anonymous    User Rating:
This was simple to make and turned out pretty good. Next time I would add more cheese to the mix- I think it was a little dry. I thought the onion flavor would be overpowering but it was not. I used fresh chives to the top and it was a great flavor as well as gave it a nice color. I will definitely make again. This is a great alternative to garlic bread.

User: Janet from Oceanside, CA    User Rating:
One morning I decided to try this dish out before I left for work, and in my haste I didn't read the recipe through so I put ALL the cheese into the dough. That was a brilliant mistake--it was extra cheesy, which to me is perfection. Next time I'm going to make it with pepper jack. Thanks Paula!!

User: JESSICA from Spring Hill, FL    User Rating:
I just love Paula Deen's recipes & this one is a favorite. Most of the ingredients are found in your kitchen anyways so it's convinient & the taste is to die for. No one will know it's so simple to make. I made this for my family last night along with Paula's fried chicken. Kids & adults love it! It tastes more like a side dish then a bread. Sauteed onions in oil & the blended cheese inside the bread is so flavorful & the chives & cheese sprinkled on top are a perfect added touch adding a nice crunch.

Our new family favorite!
08/02/2005 at 10:46am
User: Trisha from Englewood, CO    User Rating:
I made this two days ago and it is a new favorite with our family. It was truly very very easy to make. We did alter the recipe slightly - I mixed 1/2 a cup of mild cheddar and 1/2 a cup of sharp cheddar instead of using 1 cup of sharp cheddar. (We have a toddler in our house and I didn't think she'd like that much sharp cheddar and I refuse to make separate meals for everyone!) It turned out great! It was even better warmed up the next day - it had a sweetness to it. Enjoy! We did!

This bread is really good, with a crumbly cake-like texture. Next time I will try making it in muffin tins. The only change I would make is to use maybe 1/8 to 1/4 tsp onion powder instead of onion salt in the butter that gets drizzled on top - the biscuit mix is already salty enough. I also added a little garlic powder and it was good.
