Very Good with Extra Sugar

I took the advice of other reviewers and used 4 Tbs of sugar in both the crust and the filling. The tart was light & creamy. The added sugar made the filling sweet, but not too sweet. I think it would be great using 3 Tbsp of sugar in the filling as well. I will definitely make this again.

very easy

i thought this would be a nice recipe to make for my mother who is diabetic because it didn't call for too much sugar. I used a sugar sustitute instead. however the filling seemed to need a little extra something. i did not find it very flavorful. the crust had too much pine nut flavor for me.

Not bad could use some improvement

I agree with the other reviews it needs more sugar in both the filling and the crust plus the crust was a little dry. I will definetely try it again with a few changes. Bob Slone, Greensboro, NC

excellent but almost a new recipe

I took others advise and doubled the sugar in both the crust and the filling plus I added 1 tsp vanilla and 1 tsp almond extract to the filling. I also changed the pine nuts to cashews. Everyone who ate this thought it was wonderful. I will make this again!

Slightly disappointed

I made this tart the other night and wasn't thrilled by the results. As others have stated, the crust was somewhat dry, and both it and the custard were not nearly as sweet as I or my husband would have liked. If I make it again, I'll take the recommendations to add more sugar, and with the left overs I have I'll try the powdered sugar over it to see if that helps.

Disappointing

The crust came out dry and was not sweet enough to qualify as a satisfying dessert. The filling was terrific, though, and it looks great. It'd be better to start with a favorite, dependable dessert tart crust of your choosing and then proceed with the filling as written.

Don't be shy on the sugar

My husband being more of a "dessert hound" than I rated it 3 stars b/c it was not sweet enough to feel like a true dessert. Neither of us like overly sweet desserts, but this one was just not sweet enough to satisfy either of us. Presentation was lovely and elegant though, thus 4 stars. It is a little time consuming and has a number of steps; but if I go through the effort to make it again, I will definitely increase sugar in filling from 2Tbs to 4.

More sugar!

Before I even made this I read all the reviews and did add the extra sugar to the crust and filling and also more vanilla flavoring. It came out excellent! I think the "more" sugar may be to American taste because my grandmother told me she has tasted a similar recipe in Italy and it was not really sweet.

AWFUL!!

Crust was dry and grainy and, even following other reviewers' suggestions for additional sugar, the filling was bland and tasteless. A lot of work for no payoff. Would rate this "zero" stars if possible.

Thanks for the sugar idea!

My husband and I liked the texture, but it didn't fully satisfy our need for a little something sweet. I'm going to make it again with the extra sugar.

Unique and Delicious

This has such a unique flavor I have not had before. I did add 1 extra tbl of sugar to the filling but not the crust. I thought the crust was perfect. I guess it depends on your individual taste. I did add fresh rasberries and shaved chocolate on top that another reviewer suggested. It also looked elegant. Thank you Giada! Most of your recipes are soooo good!

bland

I tried this recipe tonight and thought very easy to make. What I didn't like was the lack of sweetness. We added apricot preserves to the top which made it much better! I would double the sugar to the crust and filling, then glaze the top with any preserve I had on hand next time.

Bland but could be fixed...

I made this last night as a test run before easter and I'm glad I did. In agreeance with everyone else, this was very bland so I think for Easter I will add the additional sugar and some vanilla/liquor perhaps. I will also leave the pine nuts off the top and garnish with some fresh berries and shaved dark chocolate. Overall, the crust and consistency of the tart was fabulous, just needs a bit more flavor additions.

Nice crust but bland overall taste

Like most of Giada's recipes, this had great presentation. The crust was flaky but both filling and the crust were very bland. The overall taste was quite flat. I had even added some Gran Marnier (which gave extra flavor) and even topped with some sliced almonds but that gave the tart nice flavor but didnt quite save it. I wish I had read all the reviews before making it so that I could have doubled the sugar in both crust and filling but I think I will drizzle it with some honey and see if it improves the taste.

A little bland

I will take the advice of the review that calls for 4 tbs of sugar in both the tart and the filling as well as a tsp of vanilla.

This was a wonderful desert! I did add a little extra sugar into both the filling and the crust - but this is a true Italian pastry!

Needs more sugar

We don't love sweet, but this recipe definitely needs more sugar. The crust is divine and the custard wonderful. We will try it with pineapples next time.

Only fair recipe bland taste

This recipe was easy to follow but I was a bit disappointed with the results. The tart was bland and the flavor of pine nuts was faint. I made it in a springform pan instead of a removable tart pan and the results were fine.

This was a great desert, but it needed a little more sugar in the custard. Instead of messing with the recipie, try dusting each slice with a little powdered sugar.....Wonderful

I took the advise of the other reviews and made the tart a little sweeter. It turned out great! I put 4 Tbs of sugar in the crust. 4Tbs of sugar in the filling and 1tsp of vanilla. It was not too sweet, just right. Made this way I gave it 5 stars.
