I had never before attempted a lamb dish, but I couldn't take one more Christmas of boring turkey or ham. The leg of lamb was wonderful! The only thing is make sure you have a digital thermometer. The cooking time to reach 145 was longer than the recipe implies. I can't wait to make this again for Easter!

super easy elegant recipe

The only thing I would change is the amount of salt in the recipe (one tablespoon!!). The sauce was very salty.

You can't believe the smell in the kitchen as the lemon, rosemary and garlic meld together. The sauce took a different twist for us as we combined mushrooms, beef broth and port instead of the options offered in the recipe. It was fantastic. We will probably have to do this again next week!!! Quite a twist on traditional Thanksgiving.

Wow!

This was my first try at leg of lamb. When I took it out of the oven I couldn't help but take a taste. WOW! It was so delicious. The herbs were outstanding. It is definetly worth the time and effort. A nice merlot or cab goes well with this one!

Suggest you chop the rosemary, mince the garlic, and put in blender or food processor with some olive oil to make a paste. Rub with the lemon juice, salt and pepper, and then rub all over with the paste.

I made this for my family when they were expecting a ham. I dealt with very dubious looks and scowls from the children during preparation. But when it started cooking, they caught the aroma and were now wondering what a lamb would taste like. They were very suspicious until they took the first bite. Then it was all I could do to get some for myself! I highly recommend this recipe. It's a great from one of the greats!

This lamb came out scrumptious. I used a bonesless one for easier cutting to serve my guest and it came out juicy and very tasty. The sauce gives it the added kick. GREAT FOR GUESTS! I serve it with scalloped potatoes and glazed carrots

Excellent recipe...I slow roasted for 4 hours at 325. The meat came off the bone tasting like roast beef, literally! My family couldn't believe how tasty it was. The sauce was excellent, tasted like an Au Jus...perfect! I put a couple stalks of celery and some whole carrots on the bottom of the roasting pan so that the meat had something to sit on. The sauce re-heated nicely, which was a surprise. The extra lamb is in the freezer...we'll see how that goes...any good recipes there, Emeril??

I used a leg of lamb that was a little over 7 pounds. Using a suggestion from another review, I also used olive oil along with the garlic, dried rosemary, salt and pepper. The lamb came out very juicy. Plus, I used a combo of fresh lemon and orange juice and let it sit for 20-30 mins before adding paste. My only problem was with the time. I had to cook it for about an hour and 45 minutes until it got to medium. If you like your lamb between the medium and well done stage, with a little pink, try cooking for about two hours when you turn it down to 350.

My family doesnt like lamb, so we used roast beef for this recipe. We used a 3 bone roast and put it in the oven for about 3 and a half hours. I was a little worried about it having to much garlic, but when this came out of the oven, I knew it was a winner. This was moist and juicy on the inside, not to mention tender. The sauce was absolutely to die for! This is the best roast I have ever made and I will certainly be making it again!

Rosemary and Garlic Roast Leg of Lamb
03/24/2008 at 12:22pm
User: Jane from Paxton, MA    User Rating:
I read the reviews before I made this recipe. I likd the idea someone had written about making a paste w/ the garlic and rosemary to smother over the lamb. I also added some lemon juice and a bit of EVOO to make it pastier. I applied it all over the lamb ( I did boneless) the day before and it was fabulous! The paste really imparted the garlic and rosemary flavor into the lamb. I also made the sauce and did not strain it, the herbs and inions were too yummy to discard. They looked very nice on either side of the plattered sliced lamb (I put the sauce in a gravy boat without the herbs and onions). That way people could have some of the onions and or the sauce if they chose. I would definitely make this again, delicious!!

This recipe was easy and very nice. I added a little olive oil to the lemon juice, rubbing the mixture all over the whole leg of lamb. Then I added some lemon zest (I zested the lemon I used to obtain the juice) to the garlic, rosemary mixture. The lamb turned out fantastic. It was flavorful and very juice. I highly recommend this lovely recipe to everyone.

I love Emeril, but this was not a hit with me or my family. Lamb is my favorite, and I always order it if it is on the menu. I thought I would try this recipe, it looked really easy and it was. I used a boneless leg and it took much longer to cook than the recipe stated. It also lacked flavor. My picky-eater family didn't even like the smell of it. I guess I'll just let the professionals handle the lamb for me.
