Don't Cook For Too Long

User: Melissa from Chino Hills, CA    User Rating:
The taste was good, but make sure that you do not heat them in the oven for too long. Mine did start to fall apart when I transferred them to a plate. I do recommend using a flavored rice to take the flavor up a bit.

Dramatic, delicious, and easy

User: Elizabeth from Newport Coast, CA    User Rating:
This recipe is a really dramatic presentation with beautiful colors. I made this for my mother's birthday dinner, and it was phenomenal! She loved the tops, and called them "hats" on the tomatoes. I added some ground beef, seasoned with middle eastern spices to take it up a little. I saw that another user had used ricotta cheese and sausage- I will definitely try that next time. When I made it a third time, I used ground lamb. It is similar to a Middle Eatern dish that stuffs eggpants. Really versatile and delicious. Giada never fails and never disappoints!

Wow!

These were absolutely phenomenal. We had no arborio rice on hand, so I substituted basmati. The basmati added a nice floral essence to the dish that blended very well with the basil. We are definitely using this as a staple recipe!!

I actually didn't like this very much. The flavors were good, but I didn't like the flavor of the cooked tomato. I think it would have been better if the rice was baked and then the raw (cold) tomato was stuffed, for a better contrast.

A little watery

Great tomato recipe with lots of flavor. The added pulp to the rice mixture turned out a little watery. The tomato itself also releases some water to the mixture.

Very easy to make as long as you have a steady hand when slicing the tomato. Use an mellon baller to take out the inside of the tomato. Very good dish.

User: MICHELE from Deerfield Beach, FL    User Rating:
I made these at Christmas and was a little disappointed. I liked the concept but I think they needed more flavor. I'm going to make them again this weekend but I'm grilling them and then drizzling olive oil over the top. We will see if this changes my perspective, but following the recipe was a bummer. I expected more from Giada and they look better than they tasted. Maybe it was the tomatoes I used..........

I opted for a wild rice blend and added only 2Tbsp of fresh basil, the last Tbsp of basil I used 1 tsp of prepared pesto sauce. It took the flavor up a notch, I think. I also cooked this with the roasted chicken in balsamic vinegar (from another epsiode). The two went nicely together (although on that recipe I used 1 tsp dry mustard and 1 heaping tsp of tomato paste in place of the regular mustard.) All worked nicely together.

This recipe is great! I tried it this way and I also tried it with my own twist. Use brown rice instead, add mild italian sausage (out of the casing and put through a food processor after cooking), rosemary and feta, nix the salt (since the sausage and feta are plenty salty). Wow! Either way it's amazing! ...And so simple.

Although this dish had decent flavor from the herbs, it could have used a little more moisture. More cheese perhaps! It went over well with my vegetarian guests. They could also be made into a carnivorous treat with the inclusion of some ground beef in the mix.

i had some fresh basil and italian parsely on hand, so i bought Trader Joe's beefsteak tomatoes, and the filling only took care of three, so i made a second batch with three cloves garlic, and they were spectacular. make sure to salt and pepper to TASTE -- as tomatoes lend themselves to seasoning...

This recipe was easy to make, though definitely taste the filling to ensure it has enough flavor. I found the filling was just a little too bland, though with more of each spice, it would have been tasty.

I made this recipe with brown rice to make it a little healthier (although it is already pretty healthy in it's original form). It was excellent! Not too watered down, just enough flavor, and filling enough to feed 3 people as a meal. We will definitely be making this one again...

I made this dish last night..It was simply to die for!! I had large summer tomatos which only took 4 instead of 6 to stuff..They held up perfectly and looked exactly like the picture...I did not use all the tomato juice or seeds, just the meat of the tomato-it was perfect!! Use excellant parm for this recipe... I saved this recipe to "My Recipe Box" -it will made alot during this summer..A keeper....

Cooking Time

User: Yoli from Pismo Beach, CA    User Rating:
I can not say that the flavor of this dish wasn't great, however, I think that the cooking time of the Arbollo rice is off by about three minutes to short. Also, the tomatos should be baked at a higher heat for more rididity to maintain their structure. My guest loved the flavor and presentation and that is super; sometimes I can't help but notice certain details. Next time I make these stuffed tomatos I will try my own advice, thank you Giada.

User: STACY from Colorado Springs, CO    User Rating:
I am astounded anyone had less than perfect results with this recipe! It was too easy and the results were far more flavorful than I expected. (I did add an extra clove of garlic.) It is absolutely my new favorite rice dish. Giada is right - the extra rice mixture in the bottom of the dish is crunchy and yummy and the best part!

It's in the rice

User: Angela from Salinas, CA    User Rating:
The mixture for the rice is amazing. And allows one to be creative and mix things up. Absolutely simple! (I overdid it with the olive oil. So, make sure it doesnt' happen with you. Nothing bad happens if you do. It'll just be a bit oily.) Everyone loved the rice!!! That's what made this dish a hit.

I made this recipe for Easter brunch and served them room temperature and they were a hit. I was a bit nervous because usually my grandmother makes stuffed tomatoes but I saw this recipe and asked if I could try this year. I got the thumbs up from her! My only piece of advice is to make a little more stuffing. That's the only thing I'll change next time.

Excellent

This was excellent with one exception, I baked it as directed and I made a separate small casserole of just the rice mixture. My family loved the rice mixture baked by itself. It will be a regular visitor to our table. Pat M. Collinsville, IL
