Can't figure out what went wrong

I made these cookies because of the 5 star rating and they did not turn out well. First the dough never came together (and I measured everything exactly and used freshly bought ingredients). I had to press it together to hold. I baked them for the time stated. The cookies themselves (without the chocolate)turned out hard, crunchy (from the granulated sugar), and pretty much tasteless.

the dough was falling apart, i guess next time i'm gonna add more butter and i will probably melting it before adding to the mixture, that should make it better. I had " baci di dama" before and they are definetely firm. The taste was good though and my husband liked it.

This is one of my favorites

This recipe is not as hard as some people may think. One of the best cookie recipes to date Mario. Keep it up.
