![]() Heres how the rating system works:
fresh vs dry yeast 06/23/2006 at 03:30pm User: Fumiko from Kaneohe, HI User Rating: for the person who was confused about the quantity of yeast, this recipe calls for fresh yeast, which comes in cube-shaped cakes. it is much heavier than the granulated sort, because it has water in it. some bakers think that fresh yeast produces a better flavor. hot buns 06/23/2006 at 02:52pm User: Anonymous User Rating: i never ever cooked buns and this was superb to get started...thnx to C McDonald.. Yum 05/04/2006 at 12:48am User: Anonymous User Rating: Not at all like I thought Hot Cross Buns would taste. Everyone thought they were very yummy. Add a little egg wash on top to make them shiny. Easter Flop 04/24/2006 at 08:50pm User: Evelyn from San Francisco, CA User Rating: Was there a typo in the amount of yeast? 2 ounces? [1/4 oz = 2 1/4 tsps, 2 oz=18 tsps!]This recipe produced a dough that rose rapidly and fell flat when shaped into rolls. This recipe was a waste of good raisins. This recipe was a total disaster for Easter dinner. This recipe is NOT for Passover. 04/05/2006 at 04:58pm User: cheryl from Norcross, GA User Rating: Yeast is in this recipe and is therefore not allowed during Passover. Worth the Effort 03/25/2005 at 11:22am User: JEANNIE from Seattle, WA User Rating: An easy recipe, even for someone who hasn't worked with yeast before. The recipe instucts to preheat oven much too premature in the process. Yummy, even without the glaze. Ratings should be based on the Receipe 03/21/2008 at 10:39am User: Anonymous User Rating: The comments at the top of the receipe say nothing about passover. And YES it it RUMORED to have come from pagan festivals. That's all it says--rumored. Ratings should be based on the receipe after you make it and those of you observing passover obviously have not made it so you shouldn't be rating it. I don't go and give low marks on passover receipes because they are passover receipes. Get a Life! none 03/19/2005 at 07:47am User: Anonymous User Rating: My father used to make hot cross buns for holy easter sunday, now I am passing on the tradition with a perfectly scrumptous recipe! Hot Cross Buns Are Not Passover Food 03/15/2005 at 04:30pm User: Anonymous User Rating: Hot Cross Buns have NO BUSINESS being on the search-site for Passover. Not only is it entirely insensitive to Jews the world over, but your shoddy explanation of them being "pagan in origin" and celebrating the arrival of Spring is just plain ignorant. Hot Cross Buns in the passover section 03/14/2005 at 05:50pm User: Anonymous User Rating: This is not a Passover Recipe. It has to many ingredients that is not aloud on Passover. Like Flour, Yeast, etc. It should be taken out of this section. Misinformation 03/06/2006 at 01:07pm User: Anonymous User Rating: It's sad to see Gale Gand spreading misinformation. The rumor that Hot Cross Buns are pagan in origin is just that: a rumor. It has no basis in fact. Hot Cross Buns were originally sold only on Good Friday. The markings do indeed represent the cross of Christ, and have no relation to any X marks that Egyptians or Romans may have used. Perhaps Gand used this misinformation to slip the recipe into the Passover show, which insults Christians and Jews (and even pagans) alike. It is not an honorable thing to do. |
