I had these growing up, and they were smooth and delicious. Unfortunately, this recipe came out grainy and too sweet. They were grainy even after all night in the refrigerator. I got them back to room temp and they became sticky and wet.

My 5-year-old son was watching this episode with me and insisted we make these. We have now made them twice and we all love them. They are super easy to make, and my son loves to make these as well. They are a fairly healthy snack/dessert and pretty versatile. Last night we coated them with mini chocolate chips, which were pretty good. The powdered sugar is also good; however, it doesn't stay coated very well.

Love them

My mom used to make these for my brother and I as kids, and they are still as good as I remember. Not to mention super easy. I'm so glad to see this recipe surface after so many years. I think my mom used to add sesame seeds to the mixture... either way they are tasty. Thanks Paula!

Best Snack In The World

User: TIna from Rochester, NY    User Rating:
I loved these treats as a kid. I tried making them from scratch but never could get the ratio of ingredients right. When I saw Paula making them my heart skipped a beat. I modified the recipe to use light corn syrup instead of honey. The light corn syrup is easier to mix and has a lighter flavor which allows the peanut butter flavor to shine. Thank you Paula for this recipe and the childhood I relive with every bite.

User: Misty from Madison, MS    User Rating:
I was kind of scared about how these would turn out after reading some of the reviews; however, they turned out fabulous! I made them for my 2-year-old's Thanksgiving party and told myself that I was not going to eat any of them.....I ended up eating 8!!!! The only complaint is that the powdered sugar did not adhere to the ball....I recommend I rolling them in crushed graham crackers!....this recipe is definitely worth trying!!!! Oh! one more thing, they are grainy when u first roll them into balls, but after they are refrigerated they end up with a perfect texture!

Nutty Turkeys
11/08/2006 at 05:48pm
User: Anonymous    User Rating:
My son and I were looking for a healthy "turkey" treat for his preschool class, so we took this recipe and modified it to make "nutty turkeys". Here's how. We used a full 16oz. container of natural peanutbutter, 3/4 cup of honey, and then put 2 cups of powdered milk that we then blended in the Vita-mix (blender on steroids) until very fine. Rolled into small balls, coated with finely chopped unsweetened cereal, and set the ball on a tiny twist pretzel with 3 pretzel sticks as the "feathers" and a raisin as the turkey head. The kids didn't even know they were having a healthy snack. You could say they "gobbled" them up!

I am giving this recipe three stars because I haven't tried it yet. By the ingredient, I too, would cut down on the honey and perhaps liquify the milk. I also thought of rolling the peanut balls in rice krispies. Just an idea

Lots of Fun
01/19/2006 at 01:04pm
User: AVRIA from Tacoma, WA    User Rating:
My three year old and I had lots of fun making these. And they were pretty good too! I might agree that the ones rolled in powdered sugar were a little too sweet, but the corn flake ones were just right. They're almost like a peanut butter cup without the chocolate. By the way, I think next time I make these I will stuff a chocolate kiss in the middle, or roll them in chocolate chips as another option. I'm not sure these qualify as "health food" but they are still good and worth trying.

My son (10) loves these. This is a recipe we make together. He takes them to school as a snack (only healthy snacks allowed). We have fun experimenting with different types of cereals and such to roll them in. It may not be something you'd serve to company, but let the kids make them and they are sure to eat them. Nice alternative to candy!!

Good but a little grainy
11/19/2005 at 08:11pm
User: Kimberly from Frankfort, KY    User Rating:
The powdered milk made the mixture very grainy. I ended up putting the mixture over a double boiler until it all melted - then the mixture was smooth. Next time I will put the milk in a blender or crush with a rolling pin before mixing it with the peanut butter and honey. I dipped half of them in melted chocolate and half in powdered sugar and they were delish! I took them to a baby shower and they were a big hit.

Powdered Creamer?
11/11/2005 at 09:18am
User: Charlene from Norman, OK    User Rating:
I have not made these so it seems unfair for me to rate, but I am wondering if perhaps powdered creamer could be used instead of the powdered milk. Perhaps they might not be "grainy" as described by others. Also, I don't think cutting down on the honey helps disolve the powdered milk. I am also wondering how these ship (for Christmas packages). Any ideas?

User: MARIA from Colleyville, TX    User Rating:
One of the very few Paula recipes that I did not care for. The flavor is overwhelmingly sweet, and the texture was all wrong. It was grainy and just plain too sweet. I feel even if you were to cut down the honey, the texture still would throw me.

Too sweet

User: Audrey from Rustburg, VA    User Rating:
I didn't have these growing up so didn't have the nostalgia thing to fall back on. They were a little grainy (wonder if brand of dry milk makes a difference...I used cheapo brand) and too sweet for me. I will probably try making them again with less honey.

User: KAREN from Avon, OH    User Rating:
This is a great recipe for kids to make. The possibilities are endless for what you can roll the balls in. They are a good, rich snack. I like them because they are not sticky & the peanut butter is not overwhelming. They are rich ... so a little goes a long way. Therefore make the balls about the size of little melon balls.

User: JAN from Sparks, NV    User Rating:
On the advise of many of the write-ins, I lowered the honey to 3/4 cup and sifted the powdered milk. I rolled some in ground almond meal and some in melted chocolate chips. I also used natural peanut butter and I hope there won't be any separation problems. I also decided to freeze them for future use. I'm curious to see what happens. Definitely not just for kids. There was waayyyyyyy too much honey and the powdered milk made the balls so grainy. Although they were extremely easy and kid friendly to make, I would not reccomend this one! (but I still luv ya paula!)
