Good but Weird 11/13/2005 at 03:31pm User: Brianna from Honolulu, HI User Rating: That was the comment I got the most about this recipe. I couldn't bring myself to try it but everyone at our BBQ had some had nothing but good things to say, but it was almost always followed by how weird it was too. Didn't like at all.... 10/29/2006 at 08:25pm User: Kim from Broken Arrow, OK User Rating: I love spicy and I love slaw, but this didn't go over well at all. The brisket was WONDERFUL though. Great Suprise 10/23/2006 at 01:57pm User: AGATHA from Hamopton, VA User Rating: This was so easy and really good, it reminds me of fried cabbage and I knew that if I called it hot slaw my family would not try it, because they do not just like cole slaw, so I told them it was a slightly different take on fried cabbage and tried it and loved it. It was really good Paula. Keep them coming. Hot Slaw? 10/20/2006 at 08:21pm User: Shelly from Powder Springs, GA User Rating: I have never had hot slaw but I am always trying to find new dishes to serve my family. This was so good! I didn't add the chili powder because with the Ro-Tel I thought it may be alittle to spicy, but even without it the dish was fabulous. Creative 10/19/2006 at 06:00pm User: Jessica from Elmendorf AFB, AK User Rating: This was okay, I made it for a pot luck BBQ. It was pretty easy, but I wouldn't say it was a hit. I guess people are more into the traditional cole slaw a good alterative 10/16/2006 at 09:46pm User: Anonymous User Rating: I have entertained with this dish. Most ppl liked it. I think it is a different kind of slaw. the first time I made my loving husband, who was trying to help, put in 4 Tbl of cayanne pepper in stead of chili power!!! Do not try that at home! Wow was it hot! It was totally uneditable. Otherwise a very good recipe Easy and yummy 10/12/2006 at 09:27am User: Darlene from Wooster, OH User Rating: This is a keeper! I made this using only half a head of cabbage and 1 Tbsp. chili powder. It was plenty hot for me, but hubby could've used more heat. yummy 10/10/2006 at 08:24pm User: alfred from las vegas, NV User Rating: awesome Superb 10/09/2005 at 03:33pm User: Nancy from Lehigh Acres, FL User Rating: If you like spicy foods (which we do) this is a superb dish. Add it to your party dishes. Way too much Chili Powder 10/07/2005 at 09:21pm User: Anonymous User Rating: I have made a lot of Paula's recipes, but this one was a flop with the family. The Chili Powder overpowers the cabbage. We do love hot and spicy, but this really was neither. Favorite Cabbage Recipe 09/01/2006 at 11:29am User: martha from zwolle, LA User Rating: LOVEEEE THIS RECIPE & TALK ABOUT ECONOMICAL! My entire family is addicted to this dish. If you don't like an intense chilli powder flavor, decrease the amount. I don't change a thing. It's okay 08/31/2005 at 05:22pm User: Lindsey from Virginia Beach, VA User Rating: When I made this I thought it was going to out of this world but it looked better on tv than when I made it. My hubby didn't really like it either So-so 08/06/2007 at 08:19pm User: Anonymous User Rating: Sorry, Paula- it wasn't anything special... nasty slaw 08/01/2007 at 07:41pm User: Anonymous User Rating: This is the worst recipe I have cooked. I used fresh vegetables picked from my garden and that didn't help. The chili powder was overpowering. Everyone in our four generation family tried it and the whole dish went into the garbage. What a disappointment! The is the only receipe of Paula's that has been uneatable. Most are fabulous. Sorry Paula, this one just didn't do it. 07/03/2005 at 01:37pm User: Deborah from Chelsea, MI User Rating: I love Paula's show and I was excited when I saw her make this dish because I love cabbage, but my husband and son do not. I was happy to try a new cabbage dish and hoped to convert then. My store didn't have Ro-Tel tomatoes, so I substituted Red Gold. I only put in 2 1/2 tablespoons of chili powder. Maybe my head of cabbage wasn't large enough, but it was way too hot. We like hot foods, but the chili powder overpowered the other flavors. Needless to say, my husband and son liked it even less than my other cabbage dishes. And as much as I love cabbage, I can't say I liked it prepared this way. Sorry Paula, I love your cooking, but this one just didn't do it for us. looks good 06/24/2005 at 03:06pm User: Anonymous User Rating: i haven't tried this recipe but would try this, can anyone tell me that are the 'Ro tel or the can tomato and chillies ' flavoured????? or can we use the fresh ones. Great 06/06/2007 at 01:02pm User: Anonymous User Rating: Have recommended to numerous people. Easy Easy Easy MMMMMMMMMMMMMM 05/25/2005 at 12:39pm User: Michelle from Eugene, OR User Rating: This was an excellent recipe. Very tasty and easy to do. I would highly recommend it to anyone who wants to try something different, but not way out there :) It was OK 05/22/2005 at 11:01am User: TRACY from Fayetteville, GA User Rating: Paula's cooking is always wonderful. However, I read the reviews before I made this and I only used 2 tbls of chili seasoning. I'm not into spicy. And even with 2 tablespoons of chili powder and rotel tomatoes, this just didn't do it for me. It was boring. I love cabbage and I kept thinking, "I wasted an entire head of cabbage!" I gave it 3 stars because it wasn't bad, but I probably won't make it again. Totally Different Take on Coleslaw 05/16/2005 at 11:53am User: Mary from kingsport, TN User Rating: This hot and spicy dish way easy to make and deliciously different! NOT VERY PLEASING ! 05/15/2006 at 12:32pm User: Anonymous User Rating: Did not go over well at a bbq! Yummy! 04/29/2006 at 08:02pm User: NANCY from Raymond, MI User Rating: I didn't have the Rotel tomatoes with chilis so I used the Rotel Mexican Fiesta which is hotter. It still was yummy. My husband said it was a bit spicy but went back for seconds. Next time I will be sure to use the Rotel with chilis. Paula you are my favorite Food Network Star and thats coming from a Yankee girl from Maine! Hot slaw and lovin it! 04/15/2005 at 04:58pm User: Erika from Montgomery, AL User Rating: This was a sure hit at a bbq we went to. Will cook again 04/10/2005 at 09:47pm User: Paula from Fremont, CA User Rating: I would definately cook this again. Goes really well with pork or kielbasa's. Love this ! 04/10/2005 at 07:40pm User: JAMIE from Overland Park, KS User Rating: I read the reviews and used 3 tablespoons instead of 4 of the chili powder. Still potent! But we loved it. Next time maybe just 2 TBLS. I cook for hunters every November and I know they will love this! Paula is awesome! yummy 04/10/2005 at 12:33am User: nicole from graham, WA User Rating: it was so good and deliciouse. I personally the next time i make it will add more baccon and some garlic just for a little bit more flavor but other than that so good. HOT SSSSSSTTTUUUUUFFFFF 04/07/2005 at 11:47pm User: AnnMarie from patterson, CA User Rating: It was quite delicious. I used a new chili powder that was alittle redder than usual--REAL HOT--but we still enjoyed it. A perfect side dish/condiment for our barbequed tri tip--Yummy. Smoking Okie 04/02/2005 at 10:12pm User: Peggy from Shawnee, OK User Rating: Fantastic!!! Everyone loves this. It is simple, easy and outta this world. This slaw will go with anything, and is alot better than cole slaw. Disappointed 03/23/2005 at 10:09am User: KAREN from Hinckley, OH User Rating: I was somewhat disappointed, although I love all the ingrediants it just seemed to be missing something. The Grub Goddess. This was great when just made; it was great the next day and it will be great when I make it again and again. Thanks Paula! Finally, he eats cabbage 03/06/2005 at 01:34pm User: RENEE from whitmore, CA User Rating: My sweetheart of over 7 years finally ate cabbage. He even asked for a second helping and wanted leftovers the next day. This really is a delicious recipe. I've made it several times upon sweeties request. Hot Slaw! Hot Dog! 02/27/2005 at 06:40pm User: Anonymous User Rating: I made this after watching her show today and it was wonderful. I've made many of her recipes now and they all work. Being a Northern Californian into food, I have to admit when I first started watching her show I was stunned by some of the ingredients, however, I've learned to trust her. I wish her show was an hour long and her show could be expanded so we get to see more of her. I've turned many of my friends onto her. Good luck, Paula! my favorite hot slaw receipe 02/20/2005 at 12:49pm User: BETTY from springfield, OH User Rating: this is excellent hot cole slaw Awesome Slaw! 02/19/2007 at 12:06pm User: Jill from Canby, OR User Rating: I tried this recipe after seeing it on the show and I was impressed! My husband loved the spicy taste and it was so easy to make! Different Twist 02/05/2005 at 05:13pm User: KATRIN from Plano, TX User Rating: I liked this, but used a little less Chili Powder. Different way to eat cabbage. Hot Slaw 02/03/2005 at 10:31pm User: SHELLEY from Vancouver, WA User Rating: Hot slaw adds great variety to my salad collection. This is a great winter or summer salad for easy entertaining. S.A.Neill Quite different! 02/02/2005 at 01:33pm User: ANNA from Skamania, WA User Rating: When I had seen Paula make this recipe on TV I knew I had to try it and try it I did! Very good and so different. My guests just loved it and so did I. I will make it again and again! A little on the spicy side 02/01/2005 at 04:28pm User: ANN from Youngsville, NC User Rating: I'm going to try this again but not put as much Chili Powder in the next time - maybe cut in half or more. Then I can always add. I think it would have been better if it hadn't been as spicy....my family is not real into spicy foods. Hot slaw---WOW!!! 01/29/2005 at 10:32am User: VIRGINIA from Chesapeake, VA User Rating: I was so very surprised at how much I liked this slaw. It is very tastey and my husband really liked it as well. I think this recipe would be good to serve with a lot of different meats.I served it with Paula's Smoaked Boston Butt this time (which was excellent by the way). I will make it again for sure. AWESOME!! 01/29/2005 at 07:34am User: Anonymous User Rating: I can't get enough of this stuff! So easy to make & a real family pleaser in minutes! EXCELLENT 01/28/2005 at 05:51pm User: BERNADETTE from CRYSTAL BAY, NV User Rating: THIS WAS REALLY DELICIOUS. I NEVER MAKE ANY OF PAULA'S RECIPES BECAUSE JUST ABOUT THE TIME I GET INTERESTED IN IT, SHE ADDS A POUND OF LARD OR BUTTER OR BOTH. BUT THIS ONE WON'T HURT YOUR WAISTLINE AND IT IS UNUSUAL AND WONDERFUL. I THINK THE RO-TEL IS ESSENTIAL. THE FLAVOR IS VERY DISTINCTIVE SO DON'T SUBSTITUTE ANYTHING ELSE. Delightful Surprise 01/26/2005 at 04:55pm User: PATTY from Bloomington, MN User Rating: A great alternative to cold cole slaw during the winter month. Delicious! Try this 01/24/2005 at 03:26pm User: Y from McKinney, TX User Rating: It was great Cabbage Delight 01/23/2005 at 07:18pm User: SHARILYN from Royal Palm Beach, FL User Rating: This dish was good but wouldn't suggest eating it as leftovers. Heating up the cabbage and veggies makes it soggy the second go round. excellent 01/22/2005 at 02:37pm User: MARY from searcy, AR User Rating: good and spicy.we love cabbage prepared like this. Mmm...mmm Good 01/22/2005 at 12:24pm User: RHONDA from tomball, TX User Rating: This recipe was a hit amongst my family! Cooking in a large pot instead of a big skillet makes it easier to toss the slaw as it cooks. I added a little water to help cook cabbage down. Also added pepper. Tasty Condiment 01/20/2005 at 11:00am User: PAMELA from Mount Vernon, OH User Rating: When I told my husband I was going to try a new recipe, Hot Slaw, he wasn't to sure. Then he tried it ... WOW! I made it one on of the coldest days so far this year. ( He works in the cold quite a bit ) This did the trick to warm him up from the inside out. Once we got done with dinner, he was helping me with how else we could use this. Hot dog topping and layered on quesadillas just to start. What a great side dish. Great 01/19/2005 at 12:08pm User: BETH from Venetia, PA User Rating: Will make this again this summer when we have guests for a barbaque. Makes a large amount. Hot Hot hot 01/19/2005 at 10:53am User: TONYA from dallas, TX User Rating: It was great, cabbage was still crisp despite the heat, kuddos. Packs a kick 01/17/2005 at 04:58pm User: TERRI from Champlin, MN User Rating: This is a very unusual taste. I can't describe it, but man, it's hot and I only put in 1/2 of the chili powder and I'm no lightweight. I'll make it again though. Rissa in Knoxville, TN 01/17/2005 at 10:34am User: RISSA from LaFollette, TN User Rating: Definitely a keeper! We all loved it! Not my slaw 01/16/2005 at 08:50pm User: RON from Valdosta, GA User Rating: Didn't like this one, will try to doctor up tomorrow. Did the pinto beans (on same show)with chicken broth instead of bacon, really good. What a nice change to cole slaw! 01/16/2005 at 05:06pm User: MARIA from Old Forge, PA User Rating: My husband liked this change to traditional slaw. I made the whole thing: the brisket, the beans and the slaw. he loved it, except for the beans which needed much more flavor. Delicious and different! 01/15/2005 at 09:07pm User: ADRIENNE from Allen, TX User Rating: This was a very good, unique and easy dish. I'll use less chili powder next time though. As much as we love spicy foods, that was a little too much. Hot slaw hot wow 01/15/2005 at 07:24pm User: PHYLLIS from jackson, MO User Rating: I've tried several of the receipes and this one is very good and easy to make. It is an inexpensive side dish to any meal. |
