I purposely looked up this recipe of Ina's as I was craving hot chocolate...which is crazy b/c I live in Florida and it's about 85 degrees. Without making a special trip to the store, I substituded whole with skim milk and used the combination of semi and bitter sweet chocolate instead of the milk chocolate...and it still turned out amazing! I cannot wait to try it with her orignal call-outs of whole milk and milk chocolate! Craving quenched!

The BEST hot chocolate ever! And just out of curiosity, does anyone know why people rate recipes before they have tried to make them? Like, how do you know this is only 4 stars just by looking at the ingredients? Just curious. I've seen people do this with other recipes. Just kind of a pet peeve.

The BEST hot chocolate ever!

My kids and I made this the morning after Christmas and it was absolutely deelish! It was soooo smooth, and rich. We didn't have expresso powder, so left it out. The next time, I'll try some instant coffee, but to tell you the truth, we didn't miss it. I suggest not adding marshmallows... it made ours too sweet for our liking, so we tossed them.

Not only is this Hot Chocolate really good, but it's very easy to make. I make it all the time. I mainley follow the recipe but sometimes instead of adding the milk chocolate chips I just add the bitter sweet dark chips and it taste as good, If I have half and half handy i'll add if not no big deal just add more milk. I also like to add a little more sugar. If it comes out to thick (only if adding more chips then what the recipe calls for) I just add more milk and it turns out perfect! All in all two thumbs up I love this recipe...

Rich but worth it

If you're going to do hot chocolate, you should do it right: don't skip on the elements that make it rich and creamy. This hot chocolate is lovely and extremely easy to make. I couldn't find espresso powder, so I skipped it. I bet substituting some of the chocolate with an espresso-flavored chocolate (Hershey's makes one) would work. My only quibble is I found this too sweet. I'm not sure I'd add the sugar the next time around, or at least as much sugar as is required.

Perfect hot chocolate
