A very expensive waste of time 12/29/2006 at 10:53am User: Berneece from Alpine, NJ User Rating: Expensive ingredients. Difficult Recipe. Sloppy and Unappealing Result. Won't try it again. This was A LOT of trouble 12/27/2006 at 09:43am User: Eunice from Heavenly, ID User Rating: after baking the pie, the puff pastry, scooping and breaking and mixing and filling and stacking, I expected to be WOWWED. It just tasted like pie with cool whip. The cream filling was not very tasty 12/11/2006 at 10:54pm User: Cordeilia from Mirimar, CA User Rating: I would have preferred to have the pie with whipped cream instead. This looked sloppy and took a long time to make. Lots of work for little reward 12/10/2005 at 04:28pm User: Carla from Beverly HIlls, CA User Rating: This really wasn't very good, and some of the steps made no sense. Why waste a perfectly good apple pie when all you need is the filling? Just use a can of apple pie filling, or cook some apples. What a waste of time! 11/27/2007 at 01:06pm User: Anonymous User Rating: I just watched the show and had to see reviews. I am glad to see that I am not alone. Why would you crush an apple pie...with the crust and place on a puff pastry? Semi-Homemade? Full waste of effort. huge mess 11/24/2006 at 10:19am User: lisa from Southside, KS User Rating: looked sloppy Easy and tasty 11/24/2005 at 09:41am User: Anonymous User Rating: looked good and tasted good Not Impressed 11/23/2005 at 07:59pm User: Anonymous User Rating: I would NOT recommend this to anyone - highly unimpressive. yummy 08/30/2006 at 12:29pm User: Dory from clermont, FL User Rating: This was very easy and looks elegant. Next time I am going to try Peach or Cherry pie. easy and impressive 08/28/2007 at 09:46am User: Anonymous User Rating: this is a crowd pleaser and easy to make. I am making three for a dinner club. Yahoo, cook on. Tasty, but Messy! 07/30/2007 at 01:47pm User: DEB from Erie, CO User Rating: I liked the concept of this recipe and thought it looked spectacular on the show. However, it was really hard to put together and plate up. When placing the 2nd and 3rd layers, it fell over & came all apart...of course this was right before my guests were to arrive. I basically cut it into serving sizes and scooped it on to dessert plates, which I topped w/ add'l whipped cream and glaze. Everyone raved about the taste of the dessert, even tho' it looked a mess on the plate. Might be easier to just make the pie and serve everyone a piece. It fell apart 07/29/2006 at 09:56pm User: Kelly from Grand Prairie, TX User Rating: I made this and it fell over and was a mess on the platter. This was a total mess, waste of a pie, and darn expensive. It also tasted pretty bad. This was awful. My 5 star version 05/17/2006 at 06:53pm User: Danny from Encino, CA User Rating: So based on the other reviews, I went more the homemade route, but it took no time and was AWESOME!! Rave reviews from my guests. I peeled and cut about 3-4 Granny Smith apples and coated them with cinnamon and sugar and sauteed them in a little butter until tender. I then whipped up some whipping cream, adding vanilla and a little sugar as it whipped. I did stay true to the store bought pastry dough part and did create a trough with the first layer. From there on out, I layered dough, whipped cream and apples 3 times - Ending w/ a top layer of whipped cream and a drizzling of caramel sauce (one cup melted brown sugar and one cup cream - mix, let set and it will be thick and delicious when drizzle time approaches). Enjoy! apple pie 05/06/2006 at 01:09pm User: FRANCESCA from orlandop, FL User Rating: the first time i bake this its was too sweet but i cook it again couple of weeks ago and it was delicious thank you I was unpleasantly surprised at how this came out 05/03/2006 at 05:36pm User: Opal from Revere, MA User Rating: It looked very easy yet elegant on the show but it turned out just the opposite. It was hard to make and a sloppy mess. Plus I did feel silly making it. I agree with the others: just serve the pie with some ice cream -- don't smash it up and try to make it something it's not. Wasteful and Time Consuming 04/28/2006 at 11:19am User: Elaine from Sterling, VA User Rating: When my husband asked me where his slice of apple pie was after I spent a good while taking it apart, I realized just what a waste of time and money this recipe was. My family politely told me they would have preferred the apple pie as it was 04/11/2006 at 09:52pm User: Anonymous User Rating: After all that work, I had to agree with them. Serving a nice apple pie makes a lot more sense. delicious!!! 04/04/2006 at 07:15pm User: Anonymous User Rating: this recipe was one of the best i made in a long time. i am sure to make it time and time again. my family and friends were also very impressed with it!! apple 03/25/2006 at 08:01pm User: Anonymous User Rating: goodness! sensational! 03/24/2006 at 09:44pm User: Anonymous User Rating: :) we filled ourselves up on this apple pie 03/24/2006 at 01:19am User: Anonymous User Rating: napoleon. :) too good to be true 03/22/2006 at 10:20pm User: Anonymous User Rating: a lot of work but great! very good and 03/21/2006 at 12:27am User: Anonymous User Rating: very filling! Has potential 03/19/2007 at 07:39pm User: Anonymous User Rating: This recipe is great if you need to take out your frustrations on apple pie. It is great therapy, really. How many times have you had to resist the temptation to mush up a pie? Well, now you have aa actual reason to! Aside from that, just make the desert with some apple pie filling (homemade or canned) and real whipped cream (once again, either homemade or canned) and a drizzle of caramel sauce. THAT would be delicious! oh 03/19/2006 at 10:08pm User: Anonymous User Rating: so yummy really good! 03/18/2006 at 11:55pm User: Anonymous User Rating: This is a little work but worth it because it tastes even better than an apple pie! Loved this 03/18/2006 at 11:44pm User: Anonymous User Rating: sweet apple concoction! Tedious 03/16/2006 at 07:27pm User: Anonymous User Rating: And pointless. Good 03/16/2006 at 01:53pm User: Anonymous User Rating: Amazing I made this even easier!!! 03/15/2006 at 07:15pm User: Anonymous User Rating: I served the apple pie with some whipped cream on the side. Fabulous and SOOOOOO easy! Thx! wonderful dessert 03/15/2006 at 06:28pm User: Anonymous User Rating: This is so good and looks like it took a long time to make. I did add some sugar to the apple pie part; maybe 1/4 cup. YUM! Such a sad end for an otherwise delicious pie 03/13/2006 at 09:22pm User: Anonymous User Rating: What a waste of time. bad 03/13/2006 at 09:02pm User: Anonymous User Rating: really bad! :) great 03/13/2006 at 07:08pm User: Anonymous User Rating: looks and taste great pretty 03/11/2006 at 07:10pm User: Anonymous User Rating: and sweet! maaaaavelous 03/11/2006 at 06:23pm User: Anonymous User Rating: simply maaaavelous good n gooey 03/11/2006 at 03:46pm User: Anonymous User Rating: :) appleicious!!! 03/11/2006 at 03:05pm User: Anonymous User Rating: great! great! 03/11/2006 at 03:51am User: Anonymous User Rating: dessert! super sweet 03/10/2006 at 09:47pm User: Anonymous User Rating: If you like super sweet desserts like me, you'll like this! sweet and 03/10/2006 at 09:28pm User: Anonymous User Rating: delish Disaster 03/10/2006 at 04:19pm User: Anonymous User Rating: This was a disaster from start to finish. Midway through I just thought to myself "what ARE you doing?" The apple pie. The pastry. The Cool Whip. All nice things until you butcher them altoghether in this recipe. It tasted like storebought pie and cool whip and it looked like a frightening, leaning wreck of Cool Whip and pastry. good 03/10/2006 at 12:33am User: Anonymous User Rating: good apple pie napoleon 03/10/2006 at 12:02am User: Anonymous User Rating: I only used one and a half cups of whipped topping and I thought that was enough way 03/09/2006 at 11:22pm User: Anonymous User Rating: sweet! it took some work 03/09/2006 at 10:57pm User: Anonymous User Rating: but it was a great end result Awful. Waste of a pie 02/25/2007 at 04:51pm User: Anonymous User Rating: Do yourself a favor and just eat the pie as is with maybe some fresh whipped cream and some caramel sauce. This "recipe" is a waste of time and money. yummy, but very messy 02/25/2007 at 12:22pm User: Anonymous User Rating: it fell over in the fridge! presentation of this is not great for serving guests messy 01/18/2007 at 06:17pm User: Cristin from Lesterville, ID User Rating: and not so tasty My version of this recipe...better than just apple pie 01/02/2007 at 03:29pm User: Doris from Ontario, CA User Rating: After reading some of the reviews I was a little afraid to make this recipe... so I changed it a little bit. I only made my napoleon 2 layers (not so wobbly) and I left out the cream cheese filling alltogether...instead...I made a sauce of 1 Cup brn sgr, 1/4 cup white sgr, 1 Tbls+ butter, 2+ Tbls water... bring to a boil and let cook for a few mins. I drizzled this over each layer of the apple mixture...then I mixed a little sugar/cinammon mix with the puff pastry that I pulled out to make a trough and sprinkled it over the top and served it with vanilla ice-cream. Some of you were right...you could just serve a pc. of apple pie....but this really did look pretty and it tasted great. I used a reg. pie...not a crumb top pie, so the added brown sugar mixture really made it nice and sweet and rich. Very easy to do. Great Cakes! 01/01/2007 at 06:23am User: Anonymous User Rating: This was so easy... Remember you can go low cal... I did and no one knew the differance. |
