Mmm, great fall/winter dinner!

This recipe is perfect for a cold evening. It is so rich and creamy, and of course using the oven heats up the house nicely! I find it takes me longer to prep than the suggested time, but it really helps things go smoothly in the long run in you do all your chopping and measuring in advance. This is a great dish, and I have made it many times over the past few years. Thanks Giada!

Amazing!

Very Tasty

User: Leanna from Madison, WI    User Rating:
I would call myself a beginner-intermediate cook and this wasn't too challenging. I used a rotisserie chicken and pre-sliced mushrooms (fresh, though) to save time, and I think it helped a lot. I also left salt out of the recipe entirely and it was perfectly fine. Delicious, in fact! My boyfriend loved it, and he's a picky one. I love Giada's recipes, but I can't give this five stars because that would put it on the same level as her Chicken with Mustard Mascarpone Marsala Sauce, which it is not.

WOW Factor

This is was good. Everyone loved it and it was even better the next day. It made A LOT so if you are having a dinner party this would be perfect. It did take a litter longer to put together then was the recipe states but it was worth the extra prep time. This is definately a new Sunday dinner staple.

I have made this dish before but never this particular recipe. It was a much richer version and it was very good. Other versions did not include the flour for thicking nor the backing at the end. Either way, it was delicious and fairly easy to make.

User: Megan from Lake Oswego, OR    User Rating:
I have a hard time believing those who claim to have had it in the oven in 30 minutes, especially since the recipe calls for 35 minutes of prep time, and the amount of time given to cook the chicken, saute the mushrooms, etc. also adds up to over 30 minutes. But either way, great recipe. It makes a lot, but it reheats nicely for leftovers as well.

This recipe was amazing. It was relatively easy, though a bit time consuming. It was creamy and filling and the bread crumbs on top made it perfect. I made half of the recipe because it's just my boyfriend and me, and there was still at least 2 large servings left over. Luckily, though, it tasted just as delicious the next day (:

I've made this a few times. I've used both chicken and turkey. They were both very good, but I actually preferred the turkey, slightly more. It's a it time consuming the first time around, but the next time I was able to make a few short cuts. Using left over / already cooked chicken, making the beschamel sauce and cooking the remaining ingridients simultaneously are all great time savers.

I have to agree that it did take a really long time, but that is because I am a beginner at cooking. I made it for my boyfriend, and he absolutely loved it. We even ate the leftovers the next day. I did add some extra thyme, nutmeg, and white wine. If you want to impress people coming over for dinner, I would definitely try this recipe!

THIS WAS ONE OF THE MOST "TASTY" RECIPES I HAVE MADE. I AM A DECENT COOK AND FOUND THIS TO BE EASY. PREP IS ABSOLUTELY KEY TO PULLING THIS ONE OFF. I saw Giada make this on her show, and wanted to make it ever since. I made a few substitutions, because I didn't have everything in the house (egg noodles for the linguini, sour cream instead of whipping cream, italian seasoning instead of thyme, dry vermouth instead of wine). We will make this again! Loved it!

I made this recipe last night. There were a few things that I did not have but it still came out great. I did not have white wine so I substituted it with chicken broth. I used 1% milk instead of whole and, believe me, it was just as creamy. I used cremini mushrooms instead of white because I wanted that extra flavor. My husband LOVED it. Will definitely make again.

I have to side with the minority here and say that I was very disappointed in this recipe. It was ridiculously bland and I am not sure why. Followed the recipe to the letter. I also thought it was a lot of work, especially for the end result. Threw practically the whole pan out. :( Oh, well. I still love Giada!

WAYS TO MAKE IT EASIER

User: Marcella from stewart manor, NY    User Rating:
the sauce was sooooo good, and i wouldnt change it at all. the chicken, on the other hand, can be A LOT easier. if you make spaghetti and meatballs for dinner the day before you make this recipe, make an extra few lbs of pasta and do the chicken or buy a pre-roasted one. this is also the perfect dish to bring to a shower, as it is easy, delicious, and filling.

Excellent and Easy

great for a potluck
01/01/2008 at 09:43am
User: MIchelle from Rosemead, CA    User Rating:
I made this recipe and, too, found it a little bland. I can only attribute this to the fact that I didn't salt the pasta water enough so I redid it and it came out delicious. (I also used chicken thighs which have more flavor than the breasts; by the way, frying them in olive oil and butter - heavenly). New Year's Eve party raved. Need to add a lot of salt to the pasta water I found; otherwise, it affects the whole dish. Thanks Giada, another winner.

I've made this dish over and over when I need to bring a meal to someone. That way they get one and we still have one for dinner. It tastes great too and freezes well. I boiled the chicken instead of frying it and then used this broth in the recipe which gave the dish tons of flavor.

This recipe was fantastic. Very easy to do. I would say was easy, and not moderate in difficulty. My husband loved it. The next day the taste was even better- easy to reheat in the micro wave. Try you will like. If you do the pasta aldente you can freeze and cook in oven later.

It was good but a lot of work
12/10/2007 at 03:17pm
User: Anonymous    User Rating:
It did take a lot of work to make this recipe. I think it depends on how seasoned a cook you are, the more experienced, the shorter it will take you. But I only started cooking a little over a year ago and it took me an hour and a half to get it in the oven. Partly because I overdid the pasta the first time and had to cook the chicken in two batches. The end result, I liked it and my boyfriend said it was delicious. My 10 yr old step daughter however did not like it, she is picky though.

pretty good

User: Candice from Port Orange, FL    User Rating:
The recipe was very messy but did not take near as long as others have stated. I had nothing chopped and managed to have everything done except for the baking in 45 minutes. I would add about double the thyme and salt but other than that it was really good!

User: Ofelia from Morgan Hill, CA    User Rating:
It was yummy and I am not a casserole kinda gal. I think it took longer than 35 minutes to prep, but was worth the effort. I would make this again. I might go wild and make it a full cup of peas instead of 3/4 cup. :-) I used 1 1/2 tsp. of dried Thyme since my local Safeway was out of fresh Thyme. The family gave it many thumbs up.

User: Janet from St. George, UT    User Rating:
We all really loved this dish. It is labor intensive in that it takes quite a while to put together before putting it into the oven, but it makes a LOT and so can easily be used for a couple of meals, either as leftovers the next night or making two smaller casseroles and freezing one for later. I think the yield would be more accurately set at 10-12 servings.

Good but could be better

User: Brooke from Castle Rock, CO    User Rating:
I have loved tetrazzini's since I was a child and I thought this recipe was good, but not great. I used rotisserie chickens just to cut down on time (more expensive, but cut 10-15 minutes). I thought there were a lot of mushrooms(maybe use 1/2 to 3/4 of lb.) and the nutmeg added a sweet flavor that wasn't my favorite. I think next time I would cut the nutmeg and add some parmesan cheese to chicken/mushroom/noodle/roux mixture. I have 2 kids and they both said there are too many mushrooms - not too much for me, but most kids will think it is too much.

Forget your diet for a day, and ENJOY your food again! This is fabulous and absolutely worth every single calorie. Based on other reviews, I did take five minutes beforehand to glance through and figure out how I could consolidate the dish usage. I ended up using just two or three pans/bowls instead of all that are called for - also worth the time and effort. I was able to cut back a little on the butter as in some places you don't need so much, but don't cut out the cream! :0)) Yummy!!

I made this for Sunday night dinner and it was wonderful! I did not have frozen peas so I just used 1/2 a can of peas. Also, next time, I will not use the fresh Italian parsley. The parsley was still crispy and crunchy after being baked. The consistency did not blend in for me. Also, I am not a huge fan of parsley. Overall, excellent, it made a gorgeous looking dish and tasted wonderful! Thank you!

I made this 2 weeks ago and can not wait to make it again. I you love garlic you have to try this. I had a dinner party for 4 of us and made this when the guests arrived all they could talk about was the wonderful smell coming from the kitchen. I made the 9X13 pan and we almost ate the entire pan between the 4 of us it was that good! It is great cause you can make it ahead put in the fridge and then 30 minutes before dinner you take it out, put the bread crumbs on and bake it that way you get to enjoy your guests and not slaving in the kitchen. Add a nice salad and some great crusty bread and you are set!

I made this for my boyfriend and I after we both decided we wanted chicken and pasta that wasn't alfredo and he doesn't like "red sauce." This recipe was a smash hit! I did make some substitions... I didn't use peas because we both aren't fans, and I didn't have nutmeg on hand, so I did without, but it was still delicious! I recommend chardonay for the wine as well!

It was funny to read so many people not liking mushrooms, me neither, so I thought to substitute olives but then decided on marinated artichoke hearts. I drained, rinsed and chopped them and it gave a richness to the dish. I also opted to use broccoli instead of peas, so that was an extra pan to stream the broccoli. I'm very happy with the way it turned out, I could really taste the wine and so it was more sophisticated tasting than just your average casserole. I agree that it's a bit intensive but I think would be easier the second time and I can see where much of the prep can be done ahead of time next time.

This recipe was delicious! I'm a teenager who's a very picky eater, & I asked my mom to make this. It was fabulous - it sort of tastes like chicken alfredo, except not as cheesy. The only bad thing was it took my mom nearly 2 hours to cook, so she can't make this for dinner often.

This recipe uses mostly common household ingredients and is SO flavorful and delicious I couldn't believe it. I basically cleaned out my pantry, used rotini and bowties instead of linguini, spilled some of my sauce while making it and used a little less chicken than it called for and it came out DELICIOUS. I don't think you can mess it up!

I made this dish the other night and it was a hit! I cut the recipe in half because I only wanted to make enough for 2 and I also didn't have any white wine so I substituted that with chicken broth and it still turned out great! I gave it 4 stars because I found that it was pretty messy to put together. I'd make it again.

This recipe didn't take near the time I thought it would. If you are experienced in the kitchen it won't take long. You can easily use 2% milk and instead of cream use a canned cream soup. This is a great take along casserole that can be frozen and cooked later.

I cannot imagine it taking so long to prepare this dish!! Try preping more than one item at a time. (Cook pasta while preparing sauce, etc.) Also, try using already sliced mushrooms from veg. dept. at the store and try an already cooked rotisserie chicken(remove skin and debone). This should really cut down on the time and using white and dark meat will make the dish more flavorful.

User: Jennifer from Alexandria, VA    User Rating:
I thought everything was going well but then I poured the sauce into the dish and it was WAY too much. The breadcrumbs/parmesean were not enough to coat the top. I was hoping it would reduce or absorb during baking...instead it bubbled over and set off my smoke alarms. When done, I could not believe how completely tastless it was. I saved it hoping it would work as a leftover...but it was even worse so I dumped the whole pan. If I'm going to splurge on something this caloric and fatty, it's gonna acutally have flavor. Deleting this from my recipe box!

I used left-over turkey and left-over peas from Thanksgiving dinner to make this recipe..... excellent use of left-overs. I also used fat-free half and half for the milk and it worked out fine. The sauce was amazing. Instead of doing an entire casserole, I split into 3 Glad Bakeware dishes and froze 2 of them. That way I can pull one out in the a.m. to defrost and bake later.

Loved it...has anyone tried to 'lighten' it up with good results?
04/14/2007 at 01:25pm
User: Anonymous    User Rating:
We enjoyed this very much. Not crazy about peas so I omitted them. My husband requested larger chunks of chicken (and more of them!) for next time. This is a very rich and satisfying dish but I was wondering if anyone has tried to lighten it up a bit. All that cream/whole milk/butter will probably keep me from making it as often as I'd like! Yes it does take some time to prepare but I love to cook (and eat!) so it's a labor of love for me!

Good recipe
