I have made this dish 3 times and each time it has come out perfect (do not drain beans). It's quick and easy and pairs well with other dishes especially when it's Mexican night with the girls. P.S. My 1 year old grand-twins LOVED this.

I thought this recipe was really great, but my hubby didn't like it. However, I like anything with bacon in it!

Not too bad..

This recipe makes a pretty good side dish with a mexican meal. I did find it a little bland and had to add more spices of my own. This one is nothing spectacular.

Great take on refried beans. I adjusted the recipe a little by leaving out the jalapeno (to make it milder for kids) and I used chipotle tabasco sauce instead of the hot sauce. Wasn't dry at all. This will replace the meat in my tacos from now on

Black Bean low on flavor

I was hoping that this recipe had much more flavor than it did. I was really excited to try it, but disapointed at the final result. It seemed to be lacking something. The burgers I made with it, were very good though.

Really good

I don't do too many of 30 Minute recipes, because they are just too busy for me, but this dish is SUPER. The prep is simple and the results delicious. I used pinto beans as she mentioned and had the best refried beans ever. I've tried forever to find a recipe this good so we could make our own. Thanks Rachel.

Too dry!

The flavors and the concept behind this recipe are excellent. However, I found the finished product to be so dry my family could not even eat it.

I am Cuban, so I know my black beans and I loved this recipe, I am notorious for making every recipe my own, so I added some fresh red pepper slices and I garnished it with diced red onions and cilantro. Whatever you do, never drain the beans.

The first time a made it, it turned out a littel dry. I haded Hot Rotel Tomato the next time and it made all the difference.

I served this for a party--the skillet (I used a cast iron skillet to warm them up and serve them and topped them with cheese) was CLEAN. Every drop was gone and everyone wanted the recipe.

I can't believe you lemmings are stoupid enough to make this crap! And yes, I do come up with these train wrecks after hitting the crack pipe. But thanks for the 5 star reviews and buying my really lame books. The rest of the world knows I'm a total fraud and a hack, but you lemmings keep me in the money. Where would I be without you?

Haven't tried this or burger recipes yet,but rated the recipes anyway based on watching the show and the other recipes of Rachael's I have tried, but do read reviews - quite interesting in that "Gigi" at least has the guts to put her name (?) on her review, but those "anonymous" reviews I automatically disregard anyway. And don't you have an idea ahead of time if you will like the recipe, based on ingredients used...just a thought.

Disgusting!. What a way to ruin black beans- black beans done properly can be great AND healty- but slathered in oil and bacon, which while bad enough on it's own is made worse by the fact that the rendered fat is not drained. An oily diaster of a side dish. No matter how many times Rachael proclaimes it heathy it is not nor could it ever be if this recipe is followed. Not to mention the fact that it has all the eye appeal of an over ripe diaper. What a disservice the Food Network has done by allowing this to be called "healthy".

Loved It!

My whole family loved this dish. I didn't drain either can of beans because previous reviews said it was a little dry. I also drained away most of the bacon fat and still had enough to saute the veggies.

Tasty Dish....

Very easy to do and a great flavor which will go well with any Tex-mex meal. I would suggest a thicker cut bacon (like maybe a country style) and would leave on the stove top for a few at the end to make sure all is heated through. Well worth a try!

Great - add a little beer!

I seem to remember that Rachel deglazed the pan with some beer after sauteeing the onions and garlic. This is what I did before I added the beans, and there was plenty of liquid. I then actually had to cook them a little while to get rid of some of the liquid. Maybe I'm not remembering right, but I'm pretty sure she added the beer. Have to say, these are UGLY! but they taste delicious!

Yummo!

These were fabulous. I loved them! I will definetly be making again as a side dish to many flavors. They had the perfect flavor. One tip, as I cooked them, they did dry a little, I added a little chicken broth until I was ready to serve.

Love it!!

I altered this a bit, so it wasn't so spicy for my kids, by adding a bit of brown sugar. I also cut away most of the fat from the bacon, so there wasn't much at all in the pan once it was done cooking. I can't wait to try it with other kinds of beans. What a great way to get the feel and taste of "baked beans" without all the hassel! Thanks, Rachel!

Great Side Dish

Had an Enchilada night and prepared this as a side with rice. Excellent! My recommendation is to save bean "juice" (or maybe some chicken broth) and add as needed to keep up moist. Make sure the bacon is crispy. And you may not want to even mash up the beans! Try this recipe! Worth it if you enjoy beans (and/or bacon. Nice side dish! Thanks Food Network and Rachael!
