Not worth a $10,000 Grand Prize

This burger was AWFUL. I couldn't even eat half of it. The burger had a weird taste. We don't like blue cheese so we used provolone. It was the burger meat itself that we didn't like. The flavors were just off. We did like the caramelized onion mixture. I won't be making again and I can't believe it won a grand prize.

Better than I could Imagine!

Honestly, this is the BEST burger I have ever had, much less made.... and I've made a few! Wow! I used fresh basil, parsley, and thyme, and the herbs in the burger were stand-out, and out-standing! I LOVED the onions, I will use this recipe for many recipes I already make, they were superb! The sauce was very, very good, and not as prominent as I had thought it might be (this is a good thing, I was afraid it would over-power) Nothing over-powered, it was just a luscious, juicy, dripping blend of flavors, that made my mouth sing! Thank you, thank you, thank you!

A winner!

This was a very good and spicy hamburger. Loved both the flavor of the chipotle in the hamburger and grilled onions. The blue cheese sauce was really yummy and not overwhelming. Fairly easy recipe but a bit time consuming but worth the end result. Our guests raved about them. We'll definitely be making these again.

Ok Burger

After reading the reviews I decided to follow the burger recipe and the Chipotle Onions. I omitted the Avocado's and the blue cheese mixture. The recipe was good and my family really enjoyed them, but honestly they were just too much work/too many ingred. for a burger. I would definately make the Caramelized Chipotle Onions again and perhaps serve them on a burger bar; but probably wouldn't go to the work of making the rest of the recipe.

Just reviewing the onions

I didn't make the rest of the recipe, but I prepared the caramelized onions in my cast-iron skillet. We grilled our first bratwurst of the season tonight, and topped them with the onions, which were excellent.

Don't think I'll Make These Again.....

After reading all the rave reviews, I was expecting to love these burgers. Personally, I found the strong flavors did not compliment each other. The balsamic-y tasting onion, with the pungent blue cheese, and the oregano & basil, just seemed a bit too much for me. But from the other cooks out there, I am the weirdo I guess! Happy cooking.

Best hamburger ever!

I am not much of a hamburger eater but decided to try this recipe for Labor weekend cookout. It was a hugh success and absolutely the best hamburger I have ever eaten. There was not one crumb left on anyone's plate!

We didn't make the burgers, but made the onions and used them on our turkey feta burgers and our black bean burgers. Sweet and spicy! Just what we needed!

good but time-consuming

These were good but too involved and time-consuming to make. I don't want to have to wait two hours for a burger on the grill.

I watched the Build-A-Better-Burger challenge yesterday afternoon and it inspired me to try the winning recipe. This burger is very very good. My husband gives it 5 stars too. Way to go Mr. Stephanson!

We thought the Southwest Burger was better

I had 2 couples over for an informal dinner of "burger cook-off" from this show. We all agreed the Southwest Burger was better, however we did like the Chipolte Onions and the taste of the grilled avocados. We thought the Blue Cheese Spread was not good with the rest of the toppings, it overpowered them. So thanks for a good carmelized onion recipe.

Yummy!

I had six frinds over for dinner and they ALL loved the burgers... All the seasonings & cheeses blends well.. The carmelized onions were the best...I'm using those carmelized onions on other things!!

What a great burger. I never thought to use fresh herbs in a hamburger before. I did a combination of thyme and oregano (3TB total.) These herbs pair so well with the blue cheese sauce. Each bite was like an entree in your mouth, not just a hamburger. Awesome. I don't think that grilling the avocados is necessary at all. And you could easily skip the bacon and not lose a thing (and I can't believe I'm saying that because I'm of the school: "Everything tastes better with bacon.") It's so good, it doesn't need it. Save the step.

The Best

Made this receipe and absoluty loved it. Probably the best burger I've had in a while. The caramelized onions with the blue cheese really hit it out of the park.

Disappointed

The chipotle sauce gave it an off flavor, and I only added half the recommended amt to the meat after the onions turned out too hot (spicy), so I just caramalized another onion and added it, making it more to my taste. I made it indoors, and to be fair, I admit I didn't use the bacon. It was fussy and didn't taste like a burger by the time it was done.

These were fantastic, if you don't make the burgers, just make the onions....they are sooooo good. A great combination, it is no wonder he won. He did a great job.

I loved this burger!!! Though it takes a bit longer to make as compared to just making up some patties and throwning them on the grill and toping with whatever you normally use, It is WELL worth the wait! It was so good! My entire family loved it! The only problem was getting your mouth around the thing when it was all put together. Soooooo good though!
