Easy, Healthy and So Delicious!

This is a permanent recipe for my weekday dining plan. But, I would very much recommend using the freshest halibut as well as the best balsamic you can get. Just add steamed broccoli and a side of cous cous, and it is a perfect fast, healthy and tasty meal.

Awesome!

My sister and I both loved this dish. We served the halibut atop pine nut couscous and sauteed spinach and the glaze was fantastic (although I could not get it to thicken). So quick and easy! Will definitely make again.

My boyfriend and I tried this dish and its not so good. It was easy to make but the seasoning in our opinion didn't go well with the fish. Overall it was okay but not great.

Just okay

I was disappointed. I only used 2 tbsp of honey, maybe that made a difference. I might try again with 3 adn see if that helps. The sauce did not thicken at all during boiling.

Not amazing but a good weeknight fish dinner. I expected a bit more punch out of the glaze, but it was decent. I used 2 cloves of garlic, but 3 might have helped. I would make it again.

My first Giada recipe was a success. The sauce was so delicious! Next time I will increase the amount to have more! It cooked to a syrup very quickly. I did halve the oil and honey though, so that could be contributing. I am not sure why roughly a third of reviewers didn't like this much, maybe they just aren't that into balsamic vinegar like the rest of us!

I had prepared the glaze when I noticed that my fresh fish was grouper, not halibut. Oops! Then, as I prepared to broil the fish, our power went out. In the dark -by flashlight!- I cooked it stovetop in a saute pan and brushed the glaze on. Still great! The glaze would probably be even better on halibut, or maybe even pork or chicken, with a few herbal additions. I'll be trying this again, though hopefully not quite so "trying".

Very good halibut recipe

This was incredibly tasty, and I paired it with Giada's parsmesan crisps-1 under the fish atop some butter lettuce leaves, and another heart shaped pamesan crisp on top the fish, and that balsamic glaze was soooo delicious! Definately a winning dish!

I normally do not like fish much and so do not buy it often. But when I saw this recipe, I decided it looked good and might be worth a shot. User: howard from west warwick, RI    User Rating:
I'm not a halibut fan, so I substituted scrod and found the recipe to be fantastic. The simplicity of the marinade/sauce should in no way make you feel that this will not be a super dinner. As is indicated, when you reduce the final sauce, take a moment to skim off the excess oil ... it will add a lot to the final sauce and to the final dish.

what a shame to waste halibut on this recipe. make fish and chips instead! fish was dry and visually unappealing on the table. maybe if it was pan seared instead it would add a better flavor and texture.

This was my first time using balsamic vinegar as a glaze and it was so flavorful. I used Tuna steaks as that is what I had on hand. They tasted great but really watch the time on the fish. Mine was a bit dry. Good thing we had plenty of the glaze for dipping. This was easy to make.

This was fabulous!!

User: Gayle from Yorba Linda, CA    User Rating:
This was unbelivable. This glaze would work on pork and chicken. I had a little less than 1.25 pounds of halibut. I used the full amount of balsamic, two tablespoons of honey, two large garlics and only one tablespoon of oil. I did not marinate the halibut, just salt and pepper and sauteed on the stove in a little olive oil. Be sure to make the glaze before starting the fish. My glaze took about 20 minutes.

Outstanding

Would recommend letting it marinade for more than 30 minutes, but a tasty dish...Also we found fresh halibut can be spendy ($11.50 per pound in our stores) so if you can find frozen it would probably be cheaper!!

As a rule, my husband does not like Giada's recipes...a bit too much at times...however, I tried this recipe with salmon (couldn't find halibut anywhere) and we just LOVED IT! I worried that the vinegar was too pungent smelling, so I added another tbl of honey....very good! I put it on the grill rather than under the broiler...very nice! I am going to reserve this recipe for company...as my husband replied...it's hard to stop eating!

I was so excited to make this dish because it looked so good and so simple. My husband always raves about my cooking even if he doesn't like it, and this he asked me to never make again! It lacked something- salt and pepper? I added that to my plate, and it still didn't help. I even used a very good balsamic. This was a waste of very expensive fish.

this is the first of any giada recipes i have made that i didn't love. i used good quality balsamic and followed the recipe. i tasted the fish before adding the reduced syrup or glaze and it was very bland. then i added the glaze and it was horrible. i think that i reduced the glaze too much becuse it was sooooo thick and wasn't sweet at all. hopefully this was just my fault and i'll have to give it one more try.

I made this with fresh halibut fillet and followed the recipe to a tee. It was just ok. I had to serve it with left over pancetta and pinenuts to give it some flavor. And I added orange peelings to the sauce because it tasted so sweet. I won't make it again. I have cooked a ton of Giada's recipes with rave reviews. Not this time.

Glaze a delight!

User: LINDA from San Antonio, TX    User Rating:
I've made this recipe twice. Once with talapia fish and my last one with Salmon. I would suggest you skip the step of marinading the fish in the balsamic marinade. It does make the fish too sour. Go straight for the glaze! The glaze is thick and sweet and with so much flavor! Just saute your fish with salt and pepper and add the glaze before serving!

Loved it!

if you cook it long enough. I had my husband cook the glaze while I ran my daughter to Girlscouts. I don't think he is familiar with "carmalizing" by reducing the sauce in the pan. When I came home, I tried it and thought it was so, so. Then I saw that he left the glaze in the pan, so I fired it up and cooked it down. YUM! It made such a difference. I will make this again. I wonder if it would be good on chicken?

I'm not a fish eater at all, but saw Giada do this and it looked so easy I thought I'd try it. If I could give another star I would! It was SO easy, and the reward? YUUUMMM! It says to marinate the halibut for 30 minutes up to four hours. I marinated it for the four hours and it was worth it. This would also be good on chicken or as a salad dressing. You've got to try it, you will not be sorry.

Sorry giada- this has been the first and only recipe that I really didn't care for. I doubled the glaze (not the oil) and let it marinate for about 2hrs. It came out flavorless and boring> fortunately I think that this may have all been my fault. The halibut was previously frozen and could be tastless due to that and the amt of moisture still in the fish that it didn't absorb the marinade. Second the oil content of the marinade may have been too high to soak into the fish. The reduced marinade tasted good but just didn't stick to the fish. I had to feed it to the dogs:( Such a shame because it smelled so good cooking. May try again with fresher fish and less oil.

For nights when you're too tired to cook, this is a great and easy dinner to make. I found that skimming off the excess oil really helps, so you can just have the great thick Balsamic syrup.

An excellent easy dish! Make sure you boil the sauce long enough to get the thick syrupy consistency and really develop that yummy balsamic flavor. Another great recipe, Giada! Keep 'em coming :)

I made this with mahi mahi instead of halibut, and served it over a bed of carmelized onions (to which I also added chopped tomatoes). My husband requested fresh lemon, but I didn't think it needed anything. It was fabulous. Flavorful but light, and very satisfying.

The flavor of this recipe was pretty good. It could use a little something extra. The fish was very tender and it was also quite easy.

Excellent!

This has to be the easiest halibut recipe ever and it tastes great! My daughter even helped! The glaze really goes well with the halibut. Add steamed broccoli or asparagus and white rice and you have the healthiest meal you thought you'd never be able to make! We all gave it a 10! Thanks Giada!
