Marvelous Mac-N-Cheese!

I love this recipe. My fam really like it also; although some members wished there were more hotdogs involved. I always add a tad more ketchup and mustard because I like it that way, but this recipe is simply fab on its own!

My family just loves when I make this recipe. It's easy and there are always leftovers which are still great the next day or two. I've sent this recipe to many people I know and they've all thanked me the same day that they try it themselves!

This had a very strange taste. I had to throw it away after my family tried it. I am done with Rachael Rays recipes. This is the third I have tried and the second I actually just threw away as no one was coming back for any leftovers. I like to watch her shows but will not try anymore of her recipes.

Not impressed.

My 3-year-old loved this. I myself didn't care for it. I thought it was way too rich and I didn't care for the flavor. For all intents and purposes a box of velveeta shells and cheese and cut up hotdogs would have been just as good and a lot less work.

It's good.

I made this for me and my boyfriend tonight. I followed the recipe to a T. It took me long than 30 minutes to make this. When I finally got to sit down and eat I was very disappointed. It had a funny taste to it, but I cant figure out why because I followed the recipe. I think this is going to be a recipe of Rachel's that I will NOT try again.

Not super good, but lkids might like it.

This dish was pretty easy to make, although it did take more than half an hour to finish. The sauce was pretty good, but I added even more cheese for a much cheesier taste. Most everyone loved it and there is plenty for leftovers. All in all a very yummy dish.

I made this for a large family get-together, and everyone loved it! Adults and kids alike. It's a perfect pot-luck dish. There were some very picky eaters in the bunch, and it went over well with all of them. For those who say they didn't like it, maybe they just didn't make it properly. I used a dark beer, which seemed to work.

Mac N Cheese with ease

User: Jorge from Fort Worth, TX    User Rating:
This is a really fast and easy casserole to make. I am the only cook in my house (me, my wife and 2 kids) and sometimes I don't have very much time after work to get dinner ready. This took abut 25 minutes to make and was a real hit with everyone. I highly reccomend this for anyone who has kids and very little time.

User: BRITANY from Fontana, CA    User Rating:
This recipe was pretty tasty. My whole family liked it. Even my niece and nephew (who are the pickiest eaters I have ever seen!) liked it. I admit it could have been cheesier, but I think I might take someone's idea of adding velveeta cheese. This would also be good with some tomatoes added to it. Mmmmm....

I made this recipe with a little change. I used chicken, vegetables for color, and use Barilla plus elbow pasta for a healthy alternative. Overall, this recipe is great for a kids party or a potluck for kids. My husband and I didn't care for it. So if you are looking for a recipe for kids in mind. This one is it.

My kids liked this, but the adults were put off by the ketchup and mustard. I added 8 oz. velveeta to smooth it out and it was a bit better, but still not a hit with the grownups. Better the next day and broiling the cheese is a plus.

I made this once before as the recipe states, but this time I changed it up. I used mini shell noodles, broth instead of beer, and regular yellow mustard and I liked it both ways, but this time was out of this world! I put in plenty of pepper, and equal amounts of ketchup and mustard.

This is a great recipe for making with my son (20 Months). He LOVES hot dogs and he likes to help as much as he can. It's quick, easy and economical. I also think that if you don't like different flavors in your mac and cheese or if you don't like hot dogs, this is not the recipe for you. For our family, it's terrific!

This was a huge disappointment. No one cared for it, and somehow, we all felt that there is no place for hotdogs in macaroni and cheese. The flavors just didn't mix well. Will not make this one again. Love Rachel's recipes, but this one is not a keeper for us.

User: Jennifer from North Richland Hills, TX    User Rating:
I saw Rachel make this recipe last week and thought it would be very tasty since I love mac and cheese with hot dogs. I was pleased to have one beer left in my refrigerator to make the mac and cheese with but I did not have E.V.O.O. so I substituted butter for the extra virgin olive oil (except for when I cooked the hot dogs, I used vegetable oil). I ommitted the onions and did not put ketchup or mustard in the sauce but it did go well on top of the casserole which I didn't think would be good, but it was. For me, the taste would be 4 stars but it is not easy cooking hot dogs, boiling macaroni and making the cheese sauce, all at the same time. Rachel makes it look alot easier than it is.

I liked this recipe, however, if I made it again I would definitely tweak some things. First off, I would use better beer (I used Busch Light...I know, but it was on sale!). Secondly, I would probably use Velveeta instead of shredded cheddar. I used far more than 3 cups, and still didn't think it was cheesy enough. Finally, I would add more of the mustard, salt and pepper. I thought it needed more of a kick. I enjoyed making this, as it was simple and I didn't have to buy much at the grocery. It was a good choice for a cold and rainy day!

My son loved this dish. This is the 2nd time I have made it. The first time I made it exactly as the directions said and it turned out ok. When I made it this time, I changed a couple of things. The first was that I used the chicken broth instead of the beer. Made a HUGE difference. The second was that I had no cheddar cheese on hand and my son really wanted this. So I used velveeta instead. It made it creamier and gave it a little more flavor. He liked it so much he asked for seconds, which is saying a lot for a 5 year old.

User: Kelly from Clayton, NC    User Rating:
I tried this recipe because we had a cook-out and several hot dogs left over. This recipe was OK. I have had better. I like cheese, but this was almost too cheesy for me. I did add a little worchestershire sauce and veggies to add some flavor. I probably would not make this again. It is much easier to open a box of mac and cheese from the store and throw in some hot dogs.

I have to admit, when I watched this episode, I was like: "Ew, that's gotta taste weird". But I tried it - and oh my goodness it is out of this world! This is the recipe she should have named "You won't be single for long" instead of that bland vodka sauce. This recipe is so yum-o that even tho I'm a lo-carber I make it about 1x a week (with Dreamfields lo-carb pasta of course!) Boyfriend is UBER CRAZY over this recipe. So am I. I feel so guilty - he thinks I created all these recipes - and they are all Rachel's. By the way, if you want to get extra bad (I mean devishly delish) with this recipe - I suggest adding a can of Hormel Chilli into it - oh my goodness - talk about orgasmic! It's not healthy, but man oh man it tastes soooooooo good! Gotta have a guilty pleasure once in a while right?

Now he's permanently afixed to the couch. Will definitely make again, but not too often :)

This wasn't bad, but it wasn't great either. The one thing that I can say, is if you want mac and cheese, just make mac and cheese. If you want a cheese dog, have a cheese dog. This recipe really didn't satisfy the hunger for either of those things. My family ate it without complant, but they would of much rather had just regular old homemade mac and cheese.

I made this dish with trepidation after reading the mixed reviews, but my extremely picky 8 yr. old son had requested this after watching Rachel make it on TV. My family (4 young kids) loved it and so did I. It was appealing for the kids and the cheese sauce was tangy and flavorful. This probably will NOT go over well with kids/adults who only like Kraft mac and cheese. Next time, and there will be a next time, I will double the amount of hot dogs as they were a little sparse in all the macaroni. One more thing, my son was able to help prepare the meal, it's a good dish to make with kids.

i loved this recipe! i was watching it on tv and thought it wouldnt be very good even though all of the ingredients are good, putting them together didnt look like it would taste very good. but, i tried it anyways and now it's the only way i make mac and cheese! the sauce (ketchup, mustard and beer) is the best!

It was to bland, so before I served it to my family I added a few things. I threw in some crab and some leftover corn chowda. That made it a little thick. So, I put the other 5 beers in from the 6-pack I had bought. Needless to say, my family loved it! I'm only giving this one star because I'm taking credit for most of this recipe.

This recipe is absolutely the best recipe for mac & cheese. Tweaked with a little extra chees than what the recipe calls for, this is sooooo good! Also, if you feel like experimenting, you can also use a white, even red wine, sometimes, if you want to add a little kick!

It was easy to make and really very good, however I probably didn't add enough catsup and mustard because it didn't have much of a different taste than regular mac an cheese but very tasty and the hot dogs add to it as well.

Big Hit

User: Becky from Lenexa, KS    User Rating:
This recipe turned out very well for me. I used smoked turkey sausage instead of hot dogs, and I used two boxes of store brand mac & cheese for the pasta. Since I had the cheese packets from the boxes, I added them to the sauce. I used a mixture of cheeses:smoked gouda, cheddar, and monterey jack. I did NOT add any salt to this at all...I knew that the salt from the cheese, sausage and cheese powder would be more than enough salt. I didn't have any beer on hand, so instead of that, I just used an extra half cup of water. It didn't turn out dry for me at all. It was very creamy, gooey, cheesy, and the kids loved it. I did put the squirt of ketchup and mustard in, but the flavors were not strong; they were subtle and complemented it well.

User: Denise from Huntsville, AL    User Rating:
I was looking for something easy to take to a "snack day" at work. I thought that maybe this would be good (who doesn't like mac & cheese or hot dogs). Well, the pasta was dry and didn't have much flavor to it other than some hint of something in the background that wasn't that great. And for once, it wasn't nutmeg. I blame the ketchup and mustard. The hot dogs seemed to be out of place in the dry pasta. If it were creamy and gooey, it probably would have been okay. I'm sorry I made this one! Luckily, I was able to swing into Kroger to pick up a deli tray. This recipe was really disappointing, although my husband thinks I was crazy for even trying it. He thought it sounded disgusting. Does that mean that Rachael is crazy for writing it? I don't know how my version came out so different, and I have to believe that it did because I don't see Rachael pulling this out of the oven and loving it. Either she was high as a kite and had the munchies, or she is desparate for some new ideas. This was awful! And I love Rachael! But this was REALLY awful!

I must admit, I can see why many people wouldn't like this dish. But recommend trying this at least once, if it appeals to you at all. Suggestions; double the dogs, add LOTS of SALT (but add it to each individual serving to taste), as for the creaminess - I use much more cheese, and I shread it myself, I keep adding till I'm happy with the result. FYI - this dish freezes GREAT!!! I keep a couple nights worth in the freezer for times I know I won't have time to cook.

But I still felt like there was something missing from this dish. I will try to cook it again and see if I can jazz it up just a little bit, with more spices or something! Oh yeah, the kids thought it was horrible. My youngest would not even touch it, even with me telling him that I got this recipe from Rachael Ray. Who by the way he just LOVES!!
