I loved this dish. It is inexpensive and very quick to make. My husband, who is not much of a tomato eater, loved it too. I think next time I'll eliminate the butter and add some House seasoning. Very low fat.

I served this dish at my Casino Birthday Party as an appetizer. I had so many comments on these tomatoes. One of the guest praised me on these because he thought it was stuffed tomatoes. The cheese made it so delicious that it threw off the guest. They thought I prepped all week for these. Excellent appetizer or meal starter! Thanks Paula for helping me cheat and not sweat!

Fast and delicious!

I've served this three times now, and it's been a huge hit each time. Make sure you drain the tomatoes well or it ends up being a mushy mess. I added some mushrooms and a little chopped onion. Yummy.

This dish has become a regular side dish for our family. It is simple, yet has wonderful flavor. It's a winner! I grind fresh black pepper on top of the Parmesan cheese, which adds to the appearance.

My husband and I have been married for a year and a half, and we have a "star" system for meals. 1 star=terrible, 2 stars=so-so, 3 stars=good, 4 stars=very good, 5 stars=amazing. This is the first 5 star rating my husband has given anything since we've been married. He said he wanted to be very selected with his 5 stars. Thanks Paula!

Could be better

I thought these were just OK, if that. I think fresh tomatoes (in season) cut in thick slices would be much better and I will try that in couple of months when mine turn red.

But...

Although it was easy and very tasty, and my kids ate it (they are extreamly picky)... the cheese didn't melt the right way, and my tomatoes kind of fell apart, juice was everywhere..but.. I will try again, because it was delicious!Great idea for a side dish!

Outstanding

Simple & Terrific Tomatoes

Growing up in the South, we had tomatoes as a side dish often. This recipe is great when you can't get fresh tomatoes (that are tasty). This is great as written, but I will try it with some of my favorite herbs and vary the cheese choice as well. Thanks Paula for another wonderful Southern Style treat!

Made these last nite following directions exactly. We both loved it. But, I should have listened to the reviews and separated the tomatoes, as I had the same problem with the cheese sticking together. I also agree that there is a wee bit too much butter, which is unusual for me 'cause I'm a butter freak...just love the stuff!! Adding herbs would be a nice addition, I think I'll try herbes de Provence next time and pair it with pork. Definitely a fun, easy recipe to experiment with. I might even use different cheeses for a change of pace.

Been taking these to various potluck dinners/lunch and have been asked multiple times for the recipe. I add Italian seasoned bread crumbs and use San Marzano tomatoes, but that's it. Nice easy recipe

User: Lisa from Peachtree City, GA    User Rating:
I could not believe how delicious and simple this dish was. I loved broiled fresh tomatoes in the summer time but since you use canned tomatoes, you can have the same taste all year round. Use a lot of cheese for the best results.

very delicious but be sure to separate tomatoes

This is a great easy recipe. Don't make the mistake I did and put extra cheese on all the tomatoes that were close together in the casserole dish. The cheese slid off (at serving time) like cheese on a slice of pizza and left all of my tomatoes bare with 1 or 2 big globs of cheese all stuck together. They were still delicious...the presentation was just lacking.
