While the cake had incedible flavor, the insructions wee a bit vague. Without seeing the show, I had to guess at a few things. The results were...the cake fell out of the pan and ended up ont he counter top.

cake o.k.

easy, yummy, and no fat if you use cool whip free. I used extra creamy since the cake has no fat anyway. Perfect as cupcakes for parties with weight-conscious friends (basically everyone).

I didn't care for it

Mine looked even better than the one on TV! It was so sad as my family tasted their pieces and pushed them away. With nine children and a husband, it's the first time ever a cake has gone unfinished in my household.

no good

I don't know if it was the brand of cake mix I used or the orange extract but this cake had an unpleasantly bitter aftertaste. It's too bad because I had high hopes after reading the reviews.

This was a very easy, delicious recipe. I even substituted some fresh squezed orange juice for the orange extract since I was out. It was very tasty and my fiance loved it.

I changed this around a bit. I left out the mandarin oranges and the liquid they come in. I used the juice from an orange, plus water to equal 1 1/4 cups for the cake. I put the orange extract in the cool whip, not the cake mix. My daughter and I both loved it. I made it in 2 bread loaf pans and they came out perfectly cooked. The orange rind and juice gave the cake a nice, subtle orange flavor. A great tasting, lowfat dessert.

Our family really liked this cake and it was super easy to make. To enhance the orange flavor, I used 1 1/2 cans of mandarin oranges and added only juice (no water) to the recipe.

I made this cake twice and both times it overflowed the pan and made a mess out of my oven. What did I do wrong? I followed the recipe. Very disappointed, even though the cake was very good.

I made this for my family and everyone loved it... Be generous when adding orange extract to the cake and whip cream. I dressed mine up with edible flowers instead of mint and it was beautiful!

Triple Orange Angel Food Cake

Before I start I need to say that I only watched the show up until she was mixing the whipped topping up. I did see her make the mix, put it in the oven and pull out a cake that was already baked to decorate. The recipe posted on this site vs what she did on the show are different in many ways. First she did not use orange extract in the cake mix. She used a capful in the whipped topping mentioning something to the effect of keeping the orange flavor consistant with the cake. Second I didn't see where she cooled on a bottle, unless of course she pulled the one out of the oven after she decorated the already baked one and did it then, and I missed that part Third she only used about 8-10 oranges in the cake mentioning to have one orange piece per slice of cake. Fourth she sliced off part of the flat part of the cake to even it out on the platter and said she was using it for garnish in the middle of the cake when it was done. I did not see that part. I used the extract in the cake, without thinking when I was following the recipe. I think next time I won't but you for sure need it in the whipped topping. Someone else mentioned sort of a weird after taste in the cake I think it might have been from the extract. I also used a bundt pan and did not cool on a bottle, i just inverted the cake from the bundt pan onto a plate and it was fine. This is the second desert recipe I tried. The first one was a disaster. This one was good, but I only gave it 2 stars because of the inconsistancy in what she did on the tv verses the recipe on the website.

This cake was a failure in both the taste (as in nothing ... you could hardly taste any orange) and appearance (as in butt ugly) departments. A dud.

User: null from null, null    User Rating:
It smelled wonderful while baking, the flavor was really good. Next time I won't put the mandarin oranges in the batter, only on top of whipped topping as a final touch- the oranges are way too heavy for angel food cake (yes, I followed the directions) and when inverted, the inside of the cake fell out! Bummed but will try again with small alterations to recipe- should be great the next time!

This recipe was amazing! Seeing the show would help ALOT to those wanting to make it, definitely flavor the whipped topping with I think it was 1 teaspoon of orange extract (or thats how much i use at least :)) you might want to try making it as a regular shaped cake, to try it out...then make it fancy with the round, angelfood cake etc. The presnetation was absolutely amazing, even bare (no topping) it looked so good! A++ for me

We could barely taste any orange!

This was absolutely wonderful. I used all mandarin orange juice water from 2 15-0z cans and used all the oranges to decorate. All my guests loved it and there was none left, plus it's a light dessert, so there's no guilt involved. I will definitely be making this one again.

I tried this for a neighbor's baby shower and it had a beautiful presentation and was pretty good. My mandarin orange can was only 11 oz, so I supplemented the juice by squeezing the juice of the orange I'd zested (but still had to add some water). I used Betty Crocker angel food cake mix, Peazey's orange extract, and Cool Whip topping. I thought I'd remembered Sandra flavoring the whipped topping--that wasn't in the recipe--but I did it anyway, using 1/2 teaspoon. The cake had a good flavor which seemed to improve with age. The cake was very white although it had a fairly strong orange flavor.
