My children, nine and 13, and I made this recipe together. Not only was it fun and easy to prepare, but the kids adored it. I loved the maple flavor and cranberries most and took it to work for snacking. My kids carried it in their school lunches this week and want me to make more this weekend for lunches next week. I think we've found a real winner in both the kitchen effort time and enjoyment factors after it's ready. Truly tasty and nutritious!

Gorp, trail mix whatever you call it!!

My family and I tried Rachael's gorp this weekend on our hiking trip. It was the best thing we ever had as far as trail mixes go.I added banana chips. Next time I'm going to try other dried fruits.

You gotta try this!

This was so easy and SOOOOO yummy!!!!! I didn't have a cinnamon stick or a vanilla bean so I added ground cinnamon and vanilla extract to the syrup and it was still so good! I varried the nuts a bit (pecans and no hazelnuts etc) and it was so good!!!! You'll never want to buy store made trail mix again!

Awesome!

I always buy those bars with granola and nuts and honey and think to myself why can't I make it...and plus aside from it being easy to make, I get to smell those smells as it cooks..priceless

This is an awesome recipe. Rachael, you should think about a show called "Cook Along with Me" since you are so great with 30 minute meals. We can buy the ingredients ahead of time via email and cook right along with you and have our dinner on the table in 30 minutes. It's just a thought. You would be gr8 at that and you are so full of personality. I watch everyday, even repeats because I like the show and I even went out and bought a grill pan!! Keep up the good recipes and thank you. Mary L. from Dallas

Excellent flavors here. I used a cranberry-nut mix from our grocery, you could use whatever dried fruits/nuts you like, I think. I, too, used vanilla extract instead of a bean, and it worked well. Caution: get the warm mixture onto wax paper or parchment QUICKLY, because when it cools, it sticks to the pan and becomes very hard!

Great GORP!

This was wonderful! The recipe says to mix the raisins/dried fruit with the oats and nuts and then bake it. When Rachel made this on the show, she waited until the mixture was cool before adding these ingredients as an "extra layer". I also added Quaker Oat Squares (the cereal) for extra crunch and swapped out half of the almonds for pecans and half of the pumpkin seeds for sunflower seeds. Delicious!

This is some of the most delicious trail mix I have ever eaten. I did not have any cinnamon sticks or vanilla beans, so I just warmed the maple syrup and added some ground cinnamon and vanilla extract, and it came out fine. I knew I didn't want as much as the recipe makes, and I didn't want a lot of leftover raisins, almonds, etc., so I bought the rest of the ingredients from the bulk bins at the store (except the M&Ms - I can always use extra of those...), to get the exact amount I wanted, eyeballing amounts, as Rachael would say. I probably did not have enough oatmeal, as that came out a little sticky, and not like you ususally find in granola, but the flavor was amazing. The only other warning I would have is that you'll need to allow plenty of time for it to cool before you add the chocolate.

Beats the old fashioned GORP anyday! Simple to make & has the most awesome flavor/s. We typically use the pepitos (pumpkin seeds) because they aren't as small as the sunflower seeds & mix in quite well with the other large pieces in the recipe mix. The peanut M&M's adds a WOW to the visual effect, especially nice if you are serving it as a finger food at a get-together. This is great for hiking, camping & long road trips! The peanut M&M's work better than plain chocolate chips, because they do not melt as bad as the chips. Only in extreme cases (very high temperatures) will they melt at all! :-)

Will never buy trail mix at the store again!!!

This was the best trail mix ever. And it is so easy to make. Since I could not find hazelnuts, I substituted pecans and they were great. This was a big hit with the kids.
