Made this one thinking it sounded amazing and boy was I wrong. What's worse; it was a first time try out for a house of 27 on Thanksgiving. It's a matter of taste, but I think it was the combination of the golden mushroom and wine that did the taste in. It was a mushy, gooey mess and did not resemble risooto at alll. I also had to let it cook four hours before the rice was done. I would not make this one again.

I'm sorry to say nobody in my household cared for this one. I liked the idea and the recipe sounded good. But I thought it was too much wine. I think I'd try it again using chicken broth in place of the wine and vegetable broth.

I liked the texture AND the ease! My slow cooker didn't need time to reheat. It took exactly the time Sandra said it would. I was just wondering if I could use something other than the wine for my kids. The adults loved it, but the kids didn't like the wine taste. I used Chardonnay(sp).

I haven't tryed this recipe as yet , however I plan too. I don't understand the terrible and outrageous bashing that every recipe from this show receives. Why can't people just give an honest and sensible critique without being so nasty. Did somebody get a hold of a bad dose of kool aid or what ?

Honestly, I love this show. It's an interesting take on doing things. This wasn't bad. And if you have ever read a slow cooker book, lots of recipes call for shorter times, and cooking ahead of time, and stirring, and doing things to it after the fact, etc... People are just trying to be creative. And this is an easy way to make risotto. This show isn't for everyone, but don't make fun of it just because it's not for you. There's a great big world out there, and lots of people like different things. It's better than going to KFC or McDonalds for dinner. And besides, I don't think Emeril's restaurant is all that healthy either (great food I'll admit, but not necessarily super healthy). Don't watch the show if you don't want some of those shortcuts.

Recipe was great...I wish the reviewers that forced FN to erase all the reviews of her recipes would go away though

I actually tried this recipe and it came out great. The taste and texture was wonderful. The people on here that tried to make themselve look smart by explaining how a slow cooker is supposed to be used are beyond my comprehension (I mean seriously, you people are so odd). Stirring four times every two hours is a lot easier than stirring constantly for twenty minutes or so, like you would with a traditional risotto recipe. Sandra has great inventive ideas for even slow cookers. You guys should think out of the slow cooker rather than the box (computer) you're hiding in because you have no lives. Please try a recipe before you use this forum too.

Waste of time

Once again Sandra proves she knows nothing about cooking. The whole point of using a slow cooker is to put the ingredients in and then leave it alone. Plus every time you lift the lid it takes at least a half and hour for the cooker to get back up to temperature. I wonder if anyone at the network actually tested this recipe.

I am looking forward to trying this recipe too

Real risotto only takes 30 minutes so this must be many times better. But I would really appreciate if people who never make these recipes would stop rating them 5 stars. It makes it look like Sandra has to pay people to write positive reviews while Food Network removes negative reviews, and we all know THAT would never happen.

I am looking forward to trying this recipe. To Maggie - With such a busy life, where do you find the time to criticize Sandy's recipe? I can not understand why so many people have such nasty things to say about this program. If you don't like her style of cooking, don't watch the show and don't review the recipes. It's called Semi-Homemade for a reason...

This was just fine
11/06/2007 at 11:14am
User: Kristi from Concord, NC    User Rating:
I made this in a pan the traditional way you would make risotto. I combined the mushroom soup and 4 cups of beef stock and brought it to a simmer. I sauted the rice in 2 Tbsp of butter until translucent and then added the wine (I used white Zin. because I was out of white wine). When most of the wine was absorbed, I added the soup/stock mixture 2 ladles at a time until it was all absorbed. It took about 20-30 minutes total and was a fine side dish for the steaks I made for dinner.

I am making this right now

A short "window" of perfection

User: Mindy from Coeur d Alene, ID    User Rating:
After reading all the comments regarding this I was dying to try my hand at it. (For the record, I don't count negative reviews from people that don't have the nerve to sign their own name.) I have a brand new Hamilton Beach slow cooker. This recipe was perfectly done in 2 hours and 10 minutes. The rice was al dente, it was perfectly creamy. I added a little more seasoning but both my husband and I LOVED it. Unfortunately, my meatloaf wasn't even close to being finished. I turned the slow cooker off when the rice was perfect, but the rice continued to soak up the liquid and by the time the meatloaf was finished it was like glue. I will definitely make it again. I'll just plan on a 2-hour & 10 minute cooktime. Sandra, I'm curious if taking the rice out of the cooker would have saved it? Any other ideas??

The reason why I went out and bought a slow cooker was for Sandra's recipies. I made this risotto along with her Dijon chicken dish, and my husband and I just gobbled this down!! Not rissoto
10/08/2006 at 01:52pm
User: Anonymous    User Rating:
This is not rissoto in my book. It was gummy and tasted like canned soup. Won't make it again. The recipe made enough for a large army and I threw away about 4 pounds of it. What a waste.

Didn't particularly care for it.

User: Jeannie from Reston, VA    User Rating:
We found the wine flavor to be too strong. Perhaps it would have been better with less wine and more vegetable broth/stock. The texture was a bit off, as well, but that could have been due to the fact that I was using this particular crockpot for the first time. Not terrible, just not something I'd recommend to others...

This didn't have the taste of real risotto and was nowhere close in texture. Risotto only takes 20 minutes to cook on the stove top, yet this recipe makes you tend to the crockpot for 2 hours!!! That was a real drag!!! I won't make this again.

User: Suzy from Telluride, CO    User Rating:
Mine turned out mush like some other reviewers but I think that can be remedied with a shorter cook time. I used good Pinot Grigio and loved the added wine flavor. Chopped flat leaf parsley finished it off nicely. I will make this dish again! ps. I agree that this forum should not be used for nasty comments. I check the reviews for constructive criticism and tips to make the recipes as good as they can be. It should not be used to badmouth a perfectly nice hardworking woman.

not the best

User: Anonymous    User Rating:
Ok, I tried this recipe and I was not thrilled...at all. The idea of cooking one of my favorite dishes in the crockpot was nice, but the final dish didn't have the texture or the flavor of a good risoto. Quite frankly, it was annoying to be tied to the kitchen, continually stirring something in a crockpot. Traditional risoto only takes a half an hour. I won't be making this again.

The rice and soup cooked in a crockpot made it sort of like Cream of Rice cereal with mushrooms in it. It was nothing like risotto or even like a normal rice side dish. It was like mush or weird mushroom polenta. It tasted weird too. I definitely do not recommend it.

Man, this was some VERY BAD risotto
03/21/2006 at 12:31pm
User: Anonymous    User Rating:
If you have ever had risotto, you know it's not supposed to have the consistency of heavy mashed potatoes. Unfortunately, if you make risotto in a crock pot like this without stirring, it steams without properly absorbing liquid and turns the consistency of heavy, wet, gloppy concrete. If making risotto is too time consuming, use a mix. Just don't try to make risotto in a crock pot. IT SIMPLY DOES NOT WORK.

My mother just got a slow cooker and decided to try this recipe. The results were expensive and not very tasty. The finished risotto had the consistency of salty, gooey paste. How does this save time, exactly?
03/03/2008 at 03:08am
User: Anonymous    User Rating:
This recipe actually ended up being less convenient than making real risotto. The stovetop method takes half an hour, but it's not labor-intensive, so I can work on the rest of the meal at the same time. A 2-hour cook time just isn't very convenient for someone with a full-time job; it's not long enough to leave it cooking all day, but if you start it when you get home, your family's not eating for another two hours. On top of that, the texture ended up all wrong and the whole mixture tasted like canned-soup-flavored concrete. As you can imagine, this did not go over well.

This is so so delish. It comes out perfectly creamy. It is SO much less time consuming that standing over your stove stirring and adding liquid for half an hour. Thanks for the easy short cuts with great results!

Wonderful!!!

We really enjoyed this dish - very flavorful and great texture. The slow cooker process made this dish so easy to make. I served it with Salmon and it made for an excellent side dish.

It was so nice to get a nice creamy rice dish without having to stand over the stove for half an hour. Thanks! You can make all different kinds of risotto this way. The choices are endless.
