Excellent 12/31/2006 at 04:44pm User: Tina from Charlotte, NC User Rating: I made this for our New Year's Eve party and they were a hit! I highly recommemd this recipe. Typos in Recipe? 12/31/2005 at 06:58pm User: Jennifer from Torrington, CT User Rating: I think there must be some typos or ommissions in the recipe as it appears online. The list of ingredients lists items that aren't mentioned in the text of the recipe (vegetable oil, scallions, etc.) Additionally, it would be helpful if the amount of chicken was expressed in weight (1 lb, 2lbs) rather than simply the number of peices. Lastly, there seems to be some contradiction between what was aired and what's listed online.... I thought it was 325 degrees for 40 minutes on TV, but the recipe says 350 for 30 minutes..... , I believe Dan & Steve used parchment paper.... this is not mentioned online. I'd be willing to retry the recipe once the instructions are tidied up a bit.... but as is, it just doens't work. My guests loved this dish! 12/30/2006 at 01:41pm User: Anonymous User Rating: This was a big hit at my party. I took some of the suggestions of the other reviewers and cut down on the vinegar. It was good and simple to make. not so good 12/30/2005 at 08:07pm User: Anonymous User Rating: not so good Great! 12/26/2005 at 06:46pm User: Anonymous User Rating: These were delicious and easy to prepare. I didn't bother to halve the chicken tenders, nor did I put them on skewers, and that didn't matter. TRY THIS!!!!!!!!!!!! 12/24/2006 at 04:11am User: Regina from APO, AP, AL User Rating: I am so glad I tried this recipe. I saw the episode and saved the recipe. While planning for a dinner party, I decided to include the chicken on the menu as an appetizer. I ended up substituting the rice wine vinegar for regular vinegar and omitted the scallions, cilantro and sesame seeds all together, and this recipe turned out wonderful. The chicken was tender, juicy and FULL of flavor. My husband is a very picky eater and really enjoyed them. I will defiantly make this ?keeper? recipe again. Thanks Hearty Boys!!!!!! Great Chicken! 12/12/2005 at 03:05pm User: Estelle from San Ramon, CA User Rating: This is a wonderful recipe. For my taste, I cut back on the rice wine vinegar. Come on, food network, this is a HOT show! Please consider re-showing it again between 7pm - 10pm Pacific time so I & other fans may watch it after work. Dan & Steve, your show & recipes are awesome! Outstanding! 12/10/2007 at 03:23pm User: Anonymous User Rating: I made this for a pre-concert gathering a while back, and it was a smashing success. Following the suggestions of others, I cut back on the vinegar a bit, and it turned out very well. One of the concert-goers, whom I had not met beforehand, took one bite, then came over and said, "I know we haven't met, but I need to hug you, cause this is awesome!" Too Acidic 12/06/2007 at 11:00pm User: Lori from Arroyo Grande, CA User Rating: I made this as written in their cookbook. The only difference is that the cookbook listed 6 T. sesame oil and no vegetable oil; otherwise, the recipes are the same. Input from my family was unanious...waaaay too much vinegar/acid. Also needed more flavor to balance out the peanut butter...next time I would half the vinegar and add some garlic, hot chili flakes, and additional ginger. The chicken itself was moist and tender. Sauce just needs tweeking. Yuck 12/02/2005 at 12:43pm User: Jackie from Roland, AR User Rating: This recipe has too much vinegar in it to make it anything but too tart. I wonder if there is a misprint! It sounds delicious but use less vinegar. SAUCE 11/27/2005 at 12:51pm User: Anonymous User Rating: Sauce is too acidic and missing some flavor. threw it out 11/22/2005 at 02:46pm User: Anonymous User Rating: This recipe sounded so good. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to eat it and had to throw it out. Help - please explain! 11/19/2005 at 09:17pm User: Scott from Klamath Falls, OR User Rating: I saw them make this on TV but didn't - you know - pay attention. Can't figure out the use of the scallions and cilantro. The recipe doesn't say if it is added into the sauce. They can't all be used for garnish. Can someone help? Exited but Disappointed 11/18/2005 at 02:37am User: ERIN from San Jose, CA User Rating: Not sure if it was because the chicken was cold, but the overall texture of the chicken dish was weird. It was sort of slimy and creamy... with a salty taste. The dipping sauce was way too powerful and again offered a weird cold texture with the sauce. I felt like I was eating leftovers. Defiantly would not go back for seconds! Delicious 11/14/2005 at 10:10am User: Anonymous User Rating: All of your recipes are delicious. I followed the contest and was happy that you won. You have given great tips about entertaining that I will use since we entertain quite often. It is hoped that you will offer new episodes. I continue to watch repeated ones. Can't wait to try them all 11/13/2005 at 11:24am User: k from Hicskville, NY User Rating: I love the show and I am looking forward to making each recipe, especially with all the great reviews. SOOO GOOD!!!! 11/12/2005 at 01:26pm User: Anonymous User Rating: Great recipe Dan&Steve!!! I used the chicken as a main dish instead of an appetizer by not putting the chicken strips on the skewers and served it with a recipe for fried rice that I put together with some leftover brown rice I had in the fridge, frozen peas and corn, a few shakes of soy sauce, a few shakes of teriyaki marinate, and about two tablespoons of the reserved sauce that was set aside for dipping the chicken in. To make the fried rice just heat the cold brown rice (the nutty favor of the brown rice really adds great favor to the dish?I use the 10 minute boil in a bag kind) in a little oil for a few minutes letting the rice get a little browner, add in the frozen peas and corn and cover so that the veggies can thaw, when the veggies are ready just add the three sauces, stir and serve. Both the chicken and the rice were BIG hits with my family. Chicken Satay 11/04/2005 at 06:41pm User: Mora from Powder Springs, GA User Rating: I have made this recipe several times .It is very easy to prepare. You can also change the spices. Good finger food to serve to your guest. Very lite for anyone watching their weight. sesame chicken satay, just o.k 11/01/2005 at 10:10am User: Anonymous User Rating: sesame chicken satay is interesting idea.I found the tast strong. The more I ate the less I liked it. It was just o.k would not make it again. Don't Use Flash- Frozen Chicken! 10/21/2005 at 05:37pm User: deb from placitas, NM User Rating: I had trouble with the sauce carmelizing and flavoring the chicken as much as it should have. I am sure it had to do with the fact that I used flash-frozen chicken tenders from the super market. Nevertheless, I brought it to our monthly happy hour party and it was a big hit. It looked great and tasted great. It is the easiest Satay I have ever made. Next time I will use fresh chicken breast strips. Love this show. We learn something every time we watch. Our DVR is programmed so we never miss an episode. Dan & Steve, you were our choice during the competition and you have certainly proved that you were deserving. THANKS!! Awesome Recipe! 10/21/2005 at 06:05am User: Cheryl from Sterling Heights, MI User Rating: Thank you for a great recipe! I made it for a Lions game tailgate and grilled them instead of baking. Everyone loved them...hit the spot on a frigid day in Detroit! Love your show! Funny, entertaining and I've already learned many tips! Continued success to you! not carmalized 10/20/2005 at 12:29pm User: Anonymous User Rating: this sauce was watery and I tried to cook it longer to have it crisp up but it just got dry. A Great Recipe 10/16/2005 at 08:50pm User: Anonymous User Rating: This was just like the satay I've had and loved at restaurants. A wonderful change of pace. Good luck with your original and fun show! great food 10/16/2005 at 09:50am User: Sandy from Boca Raton, FL User Rating: This is great! I am so sorry someone so hateful is putting ratings on here to hate your score and I have noticed they are continuing to do so. I hope Food Network blocks their submission. This is not the purpose of the ratings. Anonymous is not even willing to show his name! Stop watching! I love ths show and stay to watch! keep up the wonderful job! We all love you! OHHHHHH BABY! 10/07/2005 at 11:37pm User: Terry from Crystal Lake, IL User Rating: LOVED IT! LOVED IT! Tryed it out on my lunch group... as a salad,,, now doing it for an open house at church. Nice & Easy Sate 10/07/2005 at 05:57pm User: Marja from Chino Valley, AZ User Rating: Much easier and almost as good as the Indonesian Sate I make. Saw this segment on TV and noted that the 1/2c. chopped scallions and the 1/2c. chopped cilantro was never used. It was just left on the chopping board by the end of the show segment. Therefore, delete it from the recipe. Roasted Eggplant & Tomato 10/07/2005 at 05:10pm User: Pat from Summerfield, FL User Rating: I served this dish, untested,at a dinner party. What a hit! It was easy, flovorful & delicious. Great 10/07/2005 at 04:04pm User: PAT from Puyallup, WA User Rating: I really like it because it was so moist and the sauce was great. I cut the sauce in half and still had left overs. Good Taste Potential - Poor Recipe 10/06/2005 at 09:07pm User: Lynne from Los Angeles, CA User Rating: Method for preparing recipe does not include the use of all ingredients listed. I had 1/2 C. of cilantro and 1/2 C. of green onions left with no instructions on what to do with them when recipe was completed. Sauce as prepared was thin and did not coat or flavor chicken well. Quick, easy and very tasty! 10/03/2005 at 01:29pm User: Theresa from Westbury, NY User Rating: What more can I say! Love the food, love the show and even my daughter who can barely boil water was able to manage this one. Keep up the good work Keep the Great Recipes Coming 10/03/2005 at 12:33pm User: Anonymous User Rating: This is really great. I've tried several other recipes from these guys and they have all been exceptional. Almost all of their recipes are things I would actually make and serve to guests and family. Keep these shows coming. excelent 10/02/2005 at 09:33pm User: Sheli from Coral Springs, FL User Rating: moist flavorful abbselutley delish, yummmmmmmmmmmmy The Best Darn Chicken!!!! 10/02/2005 at 03:05pm User: Kimberly from Lapeer, MI User Rating: Easy versatle and good tasting! 10/02/2005 at 10:58am User: Anonymous User Rating: What an easy, versatle recipe that you can make for more than one meal (like the suggestion for Thai chicken salad). Glad these guys won! very nice 10/02/2005 at 10:26am User: Anonymous User Rating: reminds me of Singapore did not care for this 09/05/2006 at 10:44pm User: Hallie from cocoa, FL User Rating: I normally love just about everything these guys make, but this just did not do it for me or my familly, it was just too strong a flavor. If I did this again, I would not soak the chicken as long, it was not a pleasant meal. Sorry. Tasty 07/23/2006 at 11:24pm User: Deborah from Union, OH User Rating: Yummy, very tasty... Thanks for all the great recipes.. Quick, Easy and Yummy 06/27/2006 at 10:41pm User: Anonymous User Rating: This recipe was very easy to follow, quick to make and very good. Made for a party and it was a huge hit. ok but could have been better 06/12/2006 at 09:57am User: Samantha from Alpharetta, GA User Rating: I think that if you cut the saltiness of it back and made it crispier then it would be ok. I tried this with my family and they all said that it was bad. Yummy and super simple! 05/02/2006 at 02:31am User: Heather from Havelock, NC User Rating: Okay let me start by saying I am the worst cook in the world! Not to mention I'm 15 and I would rather do just about anything else besides cook! But I found this recipe to be really really simple and quick! I made this for my boyfriend and his parents and his my mom was so impressed that I could make something that delicious that quick! I recommend it to anyone who enjoys Asian cuisine! Super-yummy! 03/27/2006 at 03:15pm User: CAT from MOUNTAIN HOME, ID User Rating: I was very impressed with how easy and delicious this turned out to be! Because i was cooking for one, i did my best to add the proper ratios, but test tasted and added until it was just right -- also, i did leave the chicken in the sauce for 15 minutes before baking it. I will defininitly be making this again! Crowd pleaser 03/25/2007 at 08:46pm User: Patricia from Houston, TX User Rating: Everyone loved this. We had so many compliments. It's one of my favorites. Will certainly serve again. Flavors too heavy! 03/23/2006 at 05:57pm User: Anonymous User Rating: I tried this and the taste of the peanut butter and sesame were too strong. I know what satay is suppsoed to taste like and this wasnt it. Delicious and easy 03/17/2008 at 07:07pm User: Anonymous User Rating: Cut vinegar back to 1/2 cup. Add 1-2 minced garlic cloves. No vegetable oil, just use 6 tbs sesame oil. Great recipe. Great Idea 03/09/2006 at 04:19pm User: Amy from Buechel, KY User Rating: I copied the recipe the day I saw the show and after reading some reviews, took the advice in account when making the sauce. I am a low carber, so I used a sugar substitute: erythritol and I only made half the recipe. I took the ingredients starting with the peanut butter and added the other things to my liking until it had the same consistancy Dan & Steve's did. I tossed the raw chicken chunks in the sauce and baked them on a cookie sheet, no skewers. It was great served with low carb stir-fry. I made it again a few days later and this time, just stir fried the chicken and veggies, then added a little of the sauce at the end. It was very good too. Thanks for the great ideas. Love the show. loved it!! 01/30/2006 at 12:40pm User: alice from cheshire, CT User Rating: thought the recipe was fantastic. made some minor adjustments, a little less soy, a bit more sugar. i even used the leftover sauce to make noodles and peanut sauce with vegetables. love this recipe and love this show. too much vinegar 01/16/2006 at 02:58pm User: Anonymous User Rating: the sauce was a little bitter for my liking. cutting back on the rice wine vinegar is recommened. other than that, it was a good recipe and i will use it again and adjust the vinegar content. Awful 01/16/2006 at 01:11am User: Anonymous User Rating: I wasted all those ingredients ,I had to throw it out. Great on the grill 01/13/2006 at 10:23pm User: Anonymous User Rating: I put it on the grill for an outdoor party instead of baking inside. It turned out nicely and the even the little bit of overcooked sauce, when I left it unattended too long, was wonderful. No leftovers at the party which included picky teenagers. It probably was a bit dryer than in the oven, but I would absolutely do it again. Very good! 01/11/2007 at 01:07pm User: TRACY from Brecksville, OH User Rating: I make satay every New Year's Eve and decided to give this recipe a try and it did not disappoint. I served with my own peanut sauce recipe on the side, I cut the chicken in bite size pieces which guests could spear with a skewer and eat easily. The chicken was moist and I believe that's due to the high fat content of the marinade. Don't panic about the fat, it's a party food which guests only indulge in 4-5 pieces of. Never compromise on taste because people only remember the parties where the food was great. Steve and Dan are my go to guys when planning my party menus - Thanks A Hit! 01/10/2006 at 08:31am User: MICHELLE from Saugus, CA User Rating: I made this recipe for New Years Eve. I have some tough picky critics, but these satays were a hit! I followed the recipe exactly, but the store didn't have chicken tenders so I cut up chicken breasts. I thought the taste was perfect even without the sauce. I did heat the sauce up a bit and I think it was even better. Using parchment paper is such a time savor. For the reader regarding the scallions and cilantro. The scallions were used as a garnish along with black sesame seeds for the satays and the cilanto is garnish on top of the sauce. I will be making this again with no changes! Not a good recipe 01/05/2006 at 10:33am User: JENNIFER from rexford, NY User Rating: I wanted to make this for a party and decided to try it beforehand. Thank goodness I did because I would have been embarrassed to serve this to my guests. I couldn't even eat it. The sauce had bad flavor and texture. I really enjoy watching Dan and Steve so I hope this recipe is not representative of their cooking style. Go Hearty Boys! 01/04/2006 at 01:21pm User: JANE from Coeur d, ID User Rating: I'm puzzled by the complaints re this recipe? At any rate, it's very good, not difficult. We used regular chicken breasts as opposed to tenders cince I had no skewers on hand. |
