I've tried several variations. One of my favorites is to use dried cranberries instead of raisins. A great cookie.

User: Jennifer from Denver , CO    User Rating:
These cookies taste wonderful! They take longer to bake (at least at our altitude in Denver) than it said, more like 12-15 minutes. Also, because there was no flour in the recipe, the cookies are a bit crumbly. Otherwise, they're great.

A Question
06/01/2008 at 11:57pm
User: Anonymous    User Rating:
I recently enjoyed these wonderful cookies at a family gathering, and of course, got on-lone for the recipe. I have read almost all the reviews, but still have questions. Do I use 1-l/2 cups of peanut butter. I need to freeze these cookies. Will they be as fresh after defrosting. What is the benefit to using no-flour? Doesn't flour help to keep the cookies from crumbling?

My All Time Favorite Cookie

This cookie has been my favorite cookie for a long time. The first time I had one was in McAlister Oklahoma at my National Guard Armory when we returned home from Desert Storm. The Grandmother of one our soliders made a batch of these for us. I begged her for the recipe and have been making them for camping and hunting trips since. These cookies freeze very well.

These were the best cookies I have ever tasted/made! Everyone I have made them for is obsessed and say that they are the best cookies they have ever had. I left out the raisins because I am not a huge fan. Makes a lot of cookies...more like 5 dozen rather than 3 dozen. I recommend them to everyone, especially chocolate/peanut butter lovers.

question about ingredients

User: Pam from Hill, NH    User Rating:
I was surprised that there was no flour in this recipe. They were extremely soft(I had to put them in the refrigerator for about 10 min, to get them off the sheets. Was no flour a misprint? They did taste great however.

I made these cookies with crunchy peanut butter and used white chocolate chips instead of the M&Ms. They were wonderful. I took them to my office and they were gone by 5:00. The girls said they got a different ingredient in every bite. I love Paula and I love her recipes. I can't believe there was only one stick of butter in these!!

User: faith from haverhill, MA    User Rating:
Made these cookies knowing Paula Deen's great track record. Not so impressed though. Very easy to make, but if you're expecting these to be like regular oatmeal cookies your wrong. More lke a bars if anythig. They don't melt down & bake up like regular cookies, the shape they are placed on the pan is what they stay. And they take at least 15 minutes in the oven to be not so goey! The taste good though, so I'll give them 4 stars.

My niece loved it!

These are the easiest cookies to make and everyone who ate them LOVED them. One guy said these are his new addiction! :) The only change I made was to leave out the multi-colored chocolate candies and use more chocolate chips. With my oven I found that I have to cook them 12 to 13 minutes. THEY ARE GREAT AND I WILL MAKE THEM AGAIN AND AGAIN.

Wow! Delicious and Forgiving!

I decided to use all of my Christmas baking leftovers for these. I managed to forget the baking soda & the butter. When I realized it was too late & they were baking, but they turned out great!!! They were big, chewy and delicious tasting. I used white choco chips, mini semisweet choco chips, walnuts and mini candy coated kisses. YUM. I'm keeping this one.

My family absolutely loves the Monster Cookies I made today. I am an oatmeal cookie fan myself and these are just wonderful. I am not an avid baker or very accomplished cook... but I followed Paula's directions to the letter and they turned out perfect. I didn't have parchment paper on hand, and after reading the problems some reviewers had with the cookies sticking to the cookie sheet, I sent my hubby to the store to get some. I was so glad I did. The cookies were easy to transfer to the cooling rack and easy to remove when they were cool. I baked the cookies for 8 1/2 minutes and they turned out perfect! They are not crumbling or falling apart.. just perfect. This recipe made 5 1/2 dozen cookies. I am giving them away as gifts (along with some other treats)and I am making another batch - this time with chunky peanut butter and raisins. I encourage anyone to try this recipe, but make sure not to skip the parchment paper and real butter. It will make a difference.

User: kim from sloan, NY    User Rating:
i LOVE this recipe. things i'd like to share: 1)it makes a LOT.. i got about 4 1/2 dozen of very generous sized cookies. 2)i could not, for the life of me, find a 12 ounce jar of peanut butter. most are 18 ounce jars, so i just eyed what 2/3 of the jar should be. i used creamy peanut butter. 3)parchment paper is your friend. i used the same sheet of paper for all 4+ dozen cookies with amazing results. 4)use a very large bowl. your biggest mixing bowl, hands down! 5)get our your muscles. it takes a bit of strength to mix all the ingredients up and get everything blended properly. 6)8 minutes worked perefectly for me. i thought perhaps the cookies were underdone, but when i tried to leave them in just a little longer, they turned out too crispy for me. 7)it is very important for you to leave the cookies on the cookie sheet for a few minutes after they come out of the over. they harden up a bit so you can transfer them to cooling racks. have fun baking these cookies! red and green m&m's bought from the bulk bins really dress them up. can be frozen with fantastic results.

As an avid and accomplished baker, I tried these given the mostly 5 star rating. I was very disappointed. The batter was too thin and the cookies were not appealing at all. I would not recommend this recipe. Additionally, too many ingredients for such a poor outcome.

User: Kelly from Cleveland, OH    User Rating:
I couldn't wait to make this recipe after I saw it on tv recently. The ingredients are things most people will have already in the house, I followed the directions and did measured carefully, and the cookies turned out amazing. To the reviewers who had troubles, I don't understand why. Whenever making cookies (no matter what kind) always use real butter, nothing else. I learned the hard way quickly that using anything else makes the cookies fall apart, and makes it wetter then the cookie should be. I don't know why that is just how it is. My 2nd hint for this recipe is MAKE Sure you use the QUICK oats NOT instant otameal. it will make a difference. I had a cookie dough with this recipe that was perfect....not gooey or wet. (it was gooey and very wet BEFORE I added the quick oats.) If you had trouble the first time don't give up try again. As for extended the cooking time I only cooked them 8 mins, not longer because they continue to cook while on sheet before you cool them. Trust the time. These cookies are awesome I really love them , and should lock them up before I eat them all. Fun night tonight making these. Thanks Paula. !!!!!!!

These were great cookies. My first batch started to burn on the bottom almost immediately. For the second batch I turned the oven down to 325 and cooked on the top oven rack for 10 minutes and they were perfect. My oven temp. is usually dead on so not sure why this happened to me. Otherwise, this recipe was terrific.

I have been asked to serve these again next month when we serve church coffee time again. One of the guys at church said it reminded him of the home made cookies one of the ladies who is no longer with us use to make and she was a wonderful baker.. My Pastors wife even asked for the recipe.. and She is very picky about what she serves Pastor.. Thank you for sharing this great cookies with us.. Mrs James Whitley Stromsburg Ne.

Everyone and I mean everyone from my husband, people from church to co-workers ask me to make them or for the recipe. The only thing I omit are the chocolate candies. I didn't have them on hand the first time I made them and now I just make them without. I add macadamian nuts when I make them for my husband. Also important thing to remember is to use the QUICK COOKING oat meal otherwise they come out way too soft and taste undercooked. I'm actually baking a batch now. MMMMM

User: Kelly from Mishawaka, IN    User Rating:
I made a few changes to Paula's recipe and it turned out just as good plus it looks more like a "traditional" cookie (not that it needed that at all... 3 eggs 1 1/4 cups packed light brown sugar 1 cup granulated sugar 1/2 teaspoon salt 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract 1 12-ounce jar creamy peanut butter 1 stick butter, softened 1/2 cup multi-colored chocolate candies 1/2 cup chocolate chips 1/4 cup raisins, optional 1 teaspoon baking soda 3 cups quick-cooking oatmeal (not instant) 1 cup flour 1/2 cup chopped walnuts or pecans (opt) that was it... just a tweak... KJ...

I was so excited when I watched Paula make these cookies. The recipe combined all my husbands favorite things, it was like an oatmeal rasin cookie with m&m and chocolate morsels. I was let down when they came out flat and very wet & chewy in the middle, I even made some much smaller ones as well, but they still were very chewy. The recipe said do not overcook, so I took them out and let them cool anyway. They had way to much oatmeal in them and were kind of bland. I could hardly taste any of the candy or rasins. When I gave one to my husband he said "Honestly, these are not the best you ever made." The idea is great but I am just going to make regular oatmeal rasin cookies and add in the candies and see what happens.

After reading all the glowing reviews on these, I made them and packed them up as Christmas gifts. They tasted great when they came out of the oven, but the next day the oatmeal sort of overpowered them and they were really chewy like a power bar. Kind of flat looking too, but the taste was great. I hope my friends have got good sets of chompers.

These cookies are sinfully delicious! My kids went nuts for them! We chose to leave out the raisins because, well...we didn't want to ruin them! But it's all a matter of taste. You have to watch these and make sure you don't overcook them...they're best taken out just a tad before they're done. Thanks for the fantastic recipe, Paula!

Delicious but be careful...

This is such a yummy recipe! I left off the rasins and changed the chocolate chips into peanut butter chips, I also used toffee bits instead of rasins. Two words of caution... make sure you make them SMALL, I made heaping teaspoon sized cookies the first batch and they just wouldn't cook. I made the rest of them in balls about the size of a small walnut... they came out PERFECT that way! Also, do make sure to let them sit the full 3 minutes on the cookie sheet, they really need the time to set. One more thing, I got 8 dozen out of this batch, not 3 like the recipe says!! YUMMY!!

A Winner with this one!!!!!!

These cookies came out perfect. I used double the chocolate chips and M&M's because I saw this recipe elsewhere and those were the amounts called for in that version. Also substituted 1/4 cup coconut for the raisins. Came out great - and makes a lot of cookies! Perfect for the holidays when you want a lot for parties, gift giving, etc.

There has got to be something missing in this recipe like flour maybe? These cookies turned out as flat as pancakes and doughey, soft, mushey things. They taste good but there is definitly something missing from the recipe listed here. I added some flour to the mix I had left after I saw how bad the first batch looked when they came out of the oven, and the last ones did look much better. A lot more like a cookies should look.

This is one of the few cookies I can eat because I am allergic to wheat. Theese cookies are delicious and very easy to make. I have made Paula's recipes before and she has a bit more of a sweet tooth than I do, so I cut the white sugar to 1/2 cup.I think I might cut both sugars in half next time because I found the cookies very sweet but my boys loved them as is. I used a # 30 scoop and packed it full because I wanted a monster size cookie. I had to increase cooking time to 15 minutes . They came out great, chewy, chocolately and beautifully shaped. This is a great comfort cookie and great for the guys in your life. Good job Paula.

LOL I'm not a big fan of raisins, so I omitted them, but that's up to you. You also might want to keep a strong arm nearby, ready to stir just in case, because this dough is VERY dense.
